Odds and Ends of Saturday

I had to fight for these flowers to get to stay in my flowerbed.
My daughter and my husband, kept saying things like,
" These flowerbeds are out of control, look at the weeds!"
Or, " These flowerbeds are so overgrown."
I kept reassuring them that it will be so pretty when they bloom.
It is if you like the wild look. Which I happen to like. I like how
my flowerbeds are so full and all of the colors that just
bloom and bloom.

Last night, right before bed, I decided I would take the dog out
one last time. I put her leash on and we went out to the front yard.
As soon as we got out in the grass, she stopped stone still. I could see
that she could see something that I could not see.
I was straining my eyes looking where she was looking, and then
I got goosebumps because I thought to myself that there was something
or someone out there who could see me.
Sasha was very still but as I was watching where she was watching I knew that
something else was in the yard with us.

I kept looking and I saw that it was a fox standing just outside the light from
the porch. It was standing so still watching us and Sasha didn't make a sound.
She didn't move, and the fox was walking towards us real slow. I thought, oh, gosh,
that thing is stalking us. I told Sasha to bark. ( She has a really, scary booming bark.)
The fox was getting closer. Later I thought, why didn't I just turn and run into the
house. I didn't and as it was walking I did the only thing I could think to do,
I barked like a really mean dog. That fox turned and ran full speed down the side
yard out to the pasture. Then I turned and dragged the dog in the house with me.

Later as I was telling my husband and he is having a good laugh. I will admit to being
scared of the dark, outside. I cannot make myself get over it, as hard as I try, even with
a flashlight.
I was thinking about my neighbors next door and I thought, What if they heard me?
Then I thought of this conversation.
The next morning...
Hey Mom, I heard something really weird in Kim's yard last night."
" Really? What? Well, I looked outside and Kim was out in the front yard with
Sasha, when all of a sudden she started barking." " The dog?" "No, it was Kim"
"You think she has finally lost it?"

I was thinking that this morning, so I guess I had been be careful about who
and where I bark. :)
Have a lovely Saturday.

Kim...apparently your barking was the right thing to do. It must have been there to visit with your chicks, hey?

Your wildflowers are so gorgeous! I had a small garden once...planted wildflower seeds...always something in bloom that way.

Thank you for the wonderful laugh this morning! I have often thought I wish I could bark sometimes when words won't do! Barking certainly expresses emotion! I will remember this the next time coyotes come up too close to our house and our doggies are deep into dream-land. I love how the fox turned and ran as soon as you barked! I wonder if that would work with snakes? This is the time of year I don't like because of them. Can snakes hear? I may try barking with them also.
You are very brave Kim! (You can be brave even if you get scared) Thanks again for sharing!
Love, Cindy

Thanks for the comment Mimi, I don't know about barking at snakes but maybe jumping up and down throwing rocks. :) I would just run away real fast if it was a snake I think. I have snakes too, but I go way around them. I only get scared when they think the chicken house is the place to be.
Have a great Saturday!

I laughed so hard at the idea of you barking at the fox because the dang dog wouldn't. I wonder if the fox would have attacked Sasha?

Also, what kind of flowers are those? They look like their eyes are stickin' out on their stems.

to scare off the fox!

Oh my gosh, this is so funny! I don't like the dark at all. Your barking was good and saved you, Sasha and the chickens from the fox! Have a great weekend.

Valerie :)
