Cleaning the Garden

I just couldn't take out the sunflowers today. They looked so pretty
just blowing in the breeze. The sky was so blue and they
just looked so happy out there.

We took out the onions and I got these two baskets of brown
onions. I braided them and hung them out on the fence that
goes around the swimming pool to dry. I did fix
onion rings tonight for dinner. They were wonderful.

This is the musk melon. We only got one cantaloupe this year
from the cantaloupe but the musk melon did pretty good. It is now
in the back refrigerator.

This is part of the stuff we took out, well not me,
Ron and the tractor. I just pulled the hoses out and
hula hoed my tomatoes, and peppers and around the
eggplant. I am going to keep those in until after the first frost.

This is looking at it from another direction. We took down
the arch with the morning glories. They had died in the last
week and I was tired of looking at the sad things.
This will be filled with new little trees to grow big so my husband
can start growing them for Bonsai.

I went around to all of the pumpkins to turn them and
set them on the bottoms so they bottoms would be flat.
These are the ones that just fell off.

I thought they looked so pretty today. They just
look like fall. I did want to make some pumpkin muffins
or pumpkin pie. Even pumpkin ice cream.

This is what we did today. It was nice to be able to work
like this and get so much done. It does so much for my mind
to see the weeds gone.
I would though like to put in some sweet peas this year.
Every year I tell myself I have to remember to plant my sweet
peas and every year I forget. I don't want to forget.

Thanks for stopping by today,

~Kim~

Homemade onion rings are The Best! Love the pumpkins. Mine are just babies yet. No clearing off the garden here for awhile yet.

The clean empty field looks great - like a fresh start for a new season. Those little pumpkins are cute. The grandkids can decorate them on their next play date with grandma.

The garden is still producing here. Hope it continues well into October.

I don't blame you, I wouldn't have wanted to take out the sunflowers either!

It's sad to see the garden empty but much better than to have to look at dead plants. Better luck next year. I so wish that you would have had at least some of our excess rain this year. My husband is still trying to finish his first cut of hay but the weather will not cooperate this year.

My serendipity pumpkins are getting greener and are still growing.

Hi Kim! Oh, your pumpkins are beautiful! That nice plowed plot looks wonderful. I'd leave the sunflowers, too! They really are in all their glory still, aren't they?
Today I was out on the trail with a friend and we saw a big coyote. I also saw some gorgeous dogs. I think I want a dachshund. I petted the sweetest long-haired cutie today. He had the softest snout. I've got dog fever. Can you tell?

Brew some tea. I'll be by tomorrow for pumpkin pie! I wish. I'm not sure our pumpkins made it this year.

Oh I just applaud you...what a wonderful harvest...you are truly a farm girl...pat yourself on the back, put your feet up and enjoy the fall. I can't wait until the pumpkins start arriving here...that is for me to go pick up.
Love, love the sunflowers...when we use to plant them the kids always got such joy out of them...I must try them next year...my prayers are we won't have the heat and drought next spring.

I'm always amazed at the size of your garden. Your harvest is gorgeous! I brought in 2 more tomatoes yesterday... that makes 3 now. Literally hundreds on the vine. Does this make you laugh? It seems so strange to watch you put your garden to bed (you did say you waited on the tomatoes) while mine is only just beginning to gift me!

Blessings, Debbie
