Friday Pretties!

Today I am linking with Joyce at I Love Pretty Things.
It has been awhile since I did that. I thought today I would
share a bit of my antique dishes. In this set, only one is old, the others
are reproductions. I thought I would get a whole set of these, but
I decided that I had enough.

This is the original bowl. I never knew who told the
true story growing up. When my grandparents passed
away and we had to go through the house there was two
of these bowls. My Dad said that they were his and my grandmother
said they were hers. So if we had a family gathering someone
was always stealing the bowls back and forth.

I really am afraid to use it. That was why when I saw
the reproductions I bought those.
I have another bowl, that was given to me by my
husband's grandfather. He told me it had been his
mothers.

It is of Carnival glass and it is just beautiful and I love
the feet on the bottom.

On the inside is a beautiful scene of a countryside and
in the background is a windmill, like they have in Holland.
I also keep it in my hutch and being afraid to use it.

The last thing I wanted to show you is my teapot. I love my teapot.

I am old- fashioned in how I like my tea, I like it
brewed with loose leaves and I boil the water in a
tea pot on the stove first. I will have already filled the
teapot with boiling water to get it warm and then the
second time I make my tea. I like tea in tea cups with
saucers too. There is something peaceful in going through
the whole routine then sitting down to have tea.

I don't know if you can see it very well, but it was made
in occupied Japan. I have taken it with me every where
I have been. When I lived on my own in my own little
apartment when I would get home from work, I would make
tea in my teapot and I felt like I was the richest girl in the world.
I have other teapots but this remains my teapot of choice.

These are some of the things that mean so much to me. The things
I could not replace, not because they are fancy or anything but because
they have stories and they have history and for me, that is what
makes them treasures.
I hope you will go by and visit all of the ladies who are participating in
Friday's Pretties, they are such beautiful ladies themselves.

I love your tea pot. I think the ritual of tea is so soothing but to be honest 99% of the time I just throw a bag in the cup.

The story of stealing bowls back and forth is priceless - I wouldn't use that bowl either for fear of breaking it!

And I love the footed bowl. So unique. And your teapot is just beautiful. I love Asian motif, and this is 'real'. :)

Ooooh, I didn't know you had a tea pot! And it's a beautiful one too. That is something I keep hoping to get, I just haven't found one. I need to get a set of saucers too. I am still kicking myself for not getting the saucers that went with the cups I got at Goodwill.

Ahh, got tired of collecting the corn set, eh? *insert joke about cornography here*

I do like that bowl with the carnival glass. The camera didn't pick up all the extra colors in the glass.

I love my 'pretties' also!! Your pretties are aptly named!!! I try to have a few pretty things that are special to me in each room! 99% of them are treasures that I've found at yard sales over the last 10 years! Have a great weekend!

Hi!
I am visiting from "Friday Pretties"... Your treasures are so very pretty! I am a teapot girl myself...:) I love having pieces of history passed down to me for the sentimental memory they evoke. I actually have similiar corn S&P shakers, they belonged to my husband's grandmother. He loves the memory he has of them being set at the Thanksgiving table.

Sweet post, and blog! :)

XOXO Gloria

These are just the kind of things I too treasure and for all the same reasons. I have a set (though incomplete) of dishes that belonged to my grandmother that I just love. I am afraid to use them too, though I have on one special occasion or another. I can still see them on her little table when she had me over for lunch or dinner when we were newly married. Yours are soo pretty. I don't bother to make tea that way but I know how wonderful it is. My lifetime girlfriend would never dream of making tea any other way and she has made me many a cup this way. She has MANY teas she selects from and many teapots as well. Soo fun. Have a wonderful week-end. HUGS

I love your stories, and your pictures, and your teapot is best of all. That's the reason things ought to be precious to us, because of themselves, their history with us. Thank you for sharing.
