Tuesday Thoughts

It was a nice 3 day weekend. I put 11 gallon bags
of peaches in the freezer, and 5 more bags of corn on
the cob. I have a couple more baskets of peaches to peel
and put in bags and freeze. I made two peach cobblers
and I made them in my 9x13 pan and they were gone
each day. I never knew they liked peach cobbler.
It isn't one of my favorites so I never made them.
I like berries or apple or something like that.

I thought today I would post my favorite cobbler
recipe.
Easy and Delicious Cobbler
3 cups any kind of fruit (peaches, apricots,
cherries, berries, etc.)
3/4 cup sugar
stir together and put in a 8x8 inch pan

Sift together:
1 cup flour
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking powder

Add 1 egg and mix until crumbly. Sprinkle over fruit and
top with 1/3 cup melted butter. Bake at 350 degrees for 25 minutes

I of course did not know the real recipe called for a tiny 8x8 pan, I don't even
own a 8x8 pan. So just double it or triple it is what I do, and
go by how brown the top is and how you like it.

When I was dreaming of getting married, I had my as my brothers
called it "my hopeless chest," and in it I had all kinds of handmade
things and my first cookbook which this recipe is from was from
The All Guild Cookbook.
My Mom was in the guild in our town that supported the Valley Children's
Hospital and Guidance clinic. I think it is from this book I learned to cook.

I can turn the pages and I know what is on every page. I don't use it as
much anymore. I use things that say Weight Watchers or Non Fat or
Hungry Girl on the cover.

But if you want just really good food and the kind that when you
had broke up with your boyfriend or had a fight with your best
friend, the food in here made everything look just a bit better.

My Mom and Dad had a restaurant at our fairgrounds that
was only open at fair time and at certain horse shows, and
my Mom would make this cobbler and serve it with vanilla
ice cream. Every September when the fair would open and they
would be working, I could always expect to get a call,
" Kim, I need the recipe from the All Guild for Cobbler,"
I would give it to her and she would spend the next two weeks
making all kinds of cobblers for the people who came in to eat.
People knew when she would be taking them out of the oven
and you could expect to see lines forming at the counter.

So I am passing it on, she would never give it out either.
It was her secret. She liked it because people thought
she was magic.

Maybe she was, because you know, I don't know if
my cobblers ever tasted as good as hers.

Have a lovely Tuesday!

Oh, that men would give thanks to the Lord for His goodness, for His wonderful works to the children of men!

(Psalm. 107:6)

I made your upside down cobbler yesterday with some of the peaches you gave me, and I was thinking then that you should post your recipe. I will have to try this version though!

That is a good idea, the upside down one I think is really good too.

I have been looking for a good cobbler recipe. My mother-in-law makes one but she never knows the amounts...just a dash of this and pinch of that. I'm not a great cook so I need precise measurements :)

Mmm, cobbler. I can't get anybody around here to eat cobbler or I'd make them all the time.

That's a funny story about grandma making zillions of cobblers for the restaurant. I think a restaurant setting makes everything taste better anyway. I remember getting bubblegum ice cream in a cone whenever we went in there. :-)

Yeah, she was great that way, I think she just kept the bubblegum ice cream just for you guys, which would have been just you and Ben right?

This sounds yummy. I think I will make one to surprise my husband one of these days!

Do you wear a pedometer when walking? Do you wear it at your waist or on a shoe?
