Thankful Thursday

I was looking through my devotionals and I was praying
for God's direction and to help me to follow Him and
not my own faulty reasoning. First, I read,
"Pray for wisdom. Don't make up your mind on the basis of
what everybody else says or on the basis of common sense.
That can be dangerous. There are times when common sense
really doesn't have much to do with the will of God."

" For the foolishness of God is wiser than man's wisdom
and the weakness of God is stronger than man's strength."
(1 Corinthians 1:25)

Then I found this next thing that I thought, if I could just manage
to do this once in my life I would be so thankful.
" Love your enemies, do good, and lend, hoping for nothing in return;
and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High.
For He is kind to the unthankful and evil. Therefore be merciful, just as your
Father also is merciful."
I have read about people who were able to live this verse. I have even seen it in action.
To the best of my knowledge my grandfather lived this verse out. Not once in all
of my life can I recall a instance when he did not practice this. At his funeral, all
of these people unknown to us stepped forward and told of times in their lives
when he had given to them never asking for anything back, he always modeled
forgiveness and mercy.
I have the picture of his life in my heart. He never lived anything but a quiet,
and frugal life. My brother tells of how there was toaster that was on a shelf,
where my brother worked, and every week when he would go to visit my brother,
he would pick it up and look at it. It was only 10 dollars, but he always put it down.
He was the kind of man, who probably gave the 10 dollars to someone else who needed
it. My brother said, how many times he wished he had just bought it and had given
it to him.
When he passed away, and we had to go through the house, we were all shocked
at the estate he left. We never knew and he never lived other than who and what
he was a gentle and quiet man.
I was the oldest grandchild and he carried me everywhere on his shoulder. I am
thankful that God has given to me in my life, people who have showed me the way.
Have a lovely Thursday.

Oh, that men would give thanks to the Lord for His goodness, for His wonderful works to the children of men!

(Psalm. 107:6)

I absolutely love a sentence you wrote. "I have the picture of his life in my heart." This says so much! Such a tender description!
I love, love, love reading your blog!

Those verses reassure me. I'm seriously considering going out and applying for jobs, but God has remained ominously silent on the issue to me. When he's silent on something, it's cutting my own throat to act on it.
