Counting Chickens

One of the books I loved as a child was Aesop's Fables. One of my very favorite was called The Foolish Milkmaid.
It tells the story of a girl who is going to sell her milk and buy some chicks and then have eggs that she is going to sell and and then buy herself a pretty dress
Well today this was me.
First I received a email from the place I was going to buy my chicks from that there had been a problem and I needed to contact them as soon as possible.
Which I did and I was told that there had been a problem with the Silkies and that there would be no chicks. I ordered these in December of 2011 the chicks are sold out until 2013
They said they would refund my money, but like a new Mom waiting for her baby to arrive I had everything ready and waiting. I even have 50 pounds of chick starter.

All day I kept seeing this picture of this girl and her broken milk pitcher. I had counted my chickens before they were hatched.
I know that I can go down to the feed store on Friday and get straight run but I am not feeling very lucky. I think I might get all roosters.
So I won't be getting chicks after all. I kept thinking as always happens when things like this take place. God always has a better plan for me if I just choose to wait. So I will wait, at least until Friday. :)

I keep telling myself to snap out of it, it was just chicks not some life and death situation, but I guess I really had my hopes up.
I still have 20 hens. I still have my white Silkie.

I hope you have a wonderful week, I am feeling a little dodgy about this week so far.

Well, pooh! Maybe there is something better down the road- I'm sorry they were back-ordered though- I know how disappointing that is.

When someone hands you lemons, you make lemonade... I always say.

Maybe this is your call to start breeding your own Silkies. All you need is to buy a silkie rooster and separate them from the other hens and you're in business.

Seriously, I'm sorry that your dream went out in ... feather dust.
You have 20 lovely hens to lay eggs for you and that is such a blessing.

Hugs, JB

Rotten luck Kim. But something good will come! It always does, we just can't see it. Just stay positive! Let downs can over whelm us if we let them- be stronger than that! I know you are!
