Chats on the Farmhouse Porch

I am linking again with Patrice and her Chats on the Farmhouse Porch.
This first week of school has me scrambling for time to be on the computer.
This really feels more like a train station rather than a home. I have
so many comings and goings it really is quite different. I will get into
the groove soon but right now I am at all sixes and sevens. (I just read
that in a book.)

Questions

1. What's your favorite kind of soup?

Basque soup, it is a vegetable but the best and I have never been able to copy it is from the Basque restaurants that are here locally. I really do love Basque food.

2. Do you prefer a movie or a play?

A movie at home is my favorite, I do like plays once in a while though.

3. What was your most unusual birthday celebration? (It can be the most unusual celebration you attended, if you wish.)
I really can't think of any.

4. What position were you in your family- oldest, middle, youngest, only?

I was the oldest girl until my Dad remarried then I became the second kid with a older brother.

5. Please finish this: Star shine. Star bright. First star I see tonight. I wish I may, I wish I might have this wish I wish tonight...

I am always stymied because I look up into the heavens and I find myself saying, " Thank you Lord for giving me all of my dreams and wishes, I have more than I ever dreamed. "
I have tried but that is what always comes out.

Thanks to Patrice for hosting this, I look forward to seeing all of the other visitors on the porch.
Have a great Wednesday!
~Kim~

i love the saying "all sixes and sevens" but can't, for the
life of me, figure it out! not sure if i should wish you
" all ones and twos." you'll get into a routine sooner
than you think.

We're kind of the same way right now with a new school schedule starting up. I got up at 5:30 this morning, which is freakishly early for me, and I'm sitting here astonished at how long the morning is. I did school with the munchkins. It made them very happy.

I love that line "I'm all sixes and sevens". I'm not exactly sure what it means but it made me smile.

Well, I thought I knew what it meant so I looked it up on Wikipedia and here is the definition of "being all sixes and sevens."

To be "at sixes and sevens" is an English phrase and idiom, common in the United Kingdom. It is used to describe a state of confusion or disarray. The similar phrase "to set the world on six and seven", used by Geoffrey Chaucer in his Troilus and Criseyde, dated about the mid 1380's, seems, from its context, to mean "to hazard the world" or "to risk one's life".[1] In Act 2, scene 1 of Shakespeare's "The Tragedy of Julius Caesar", Portia, in confronting Brutus about his state of anxiety says: "Why you are heavy, and what men tonight / Have had resort to you; for here have been / Some six or seven who did hide their faces / Even from darkness."

There are several other possible explanations, including one mention of a similar phrase with a different meaning in the Bible (Job 5:19).[2] However, one of the more interesting possibilities is that it may have come from a dispute between the Merchant Taylors' and Skinners' Livery Companies.[3] The two, which were founded in the same year, argued over sixth place in the order of precedence. After more than a century, in 1484 the then Lord Mayor of London Sir Robert Billesden decided that at the feast of Corpus Christi, the companies would swap between sixth and seventh and feast in each others' halls. Nowadays they alternate in precedence on an annual basis. This is unlikely to be the origin of the phrase, as Chaucer had used it over a century before,[3] but could well have helped to popularise it.

Most likely, the term derives from a complicated dice game called "hazard".[3] It is thought that the expression was originally "to set on cinq and six"[3] (from the French numerals for five and six). These are the riskiest numbers to shoot for (to "set on"), and anyone who tried for them was considered careless or confused.

Would that Basque Soup be all vegetables and beans? Just curious. Also, I love what you say when you look at the stars. I'm thankful for much too, but there are still things I would wish for and pray for.

I'm glad you dropped by my porch!

Oh we are trying to get use to our schedule also...so, so different. I remember when I had high schoolers, jr high and elementary and the college/or double credit ones coming and going...it was an adjustment.

Now having one out the door every morning is very different...and we are all exhausted. I think by next week we might find our groove. Ben starts next week for his two day...so maybe in about three weeks we will have it figured out. LOL

Blessings!!!

I think that I have really all I need/want too and am grateful, but an endless supply of money would be nice I think. LOL I prefer movies too. I can't sit through a play though.

Kim, I hope that you will adjust into your new schedule with ease.
Here are my answers to Patrice questions.

My favorite soup is home made Beef vegetable and Barley.

I love both equally as long as they keep my interest. I seldom watch movies though but I'm going to see The Help.

My neighbor made me deliver a birthday cake over to my next door neighbor and told me not to let her daughter see it because it was a surprise for her. When I entered the house there was a party going on and everybody jumped up and yelled surprise Julia. I didn't expect this at all and was very surprised. Everybody laughed at me for having been fooled in carrying my own birthday cake.

I'm the 3rd eldest of 17 kids.

Finally I wish for peace, love and harmony in the world. JB
