Farm Friend Friday with Verde Farm

I am linking up again this Friday with Amy. I enjoyed last
week getting new visitors and visiting people from Amy's links.
I hope that you can go visit some of the ladies and their lovely farms.
I speak for myself when I say, I love the simpler life that being around
any kind of animals gives to this busy world. I do love Amy's animals.
It would be hard to pick but I do have a certain fondness for those donkeys.

This is just a picture of my little flock of Bantams.
I have learned so much from my chickens. But, I love
this little poem I found when I first got chickens and
it still fits. Have a good Friday.
Today as I linked to Amy, the author of this poem stopped by
to tell me it was hers. She is linking today too. She has a lovely blog,
named, http://sproutnwings.blogspot.com/
I hope you can go by and visit her lovely blog and I am so thrilled to meet
someone whose poem I have loved so long.

All I need to know in Life
I learned from my Hens.
by Michaele Oleson

Wake up early, stay busy,
rest when you need to,
But always stay alert.

Visit your favorite places
each day.
Scratch out a living.

Routine is good.
Plump is good.
Don't ponder your purpose in life
your brain is too small.

Accept the pecking order and
know your enemies.
Weed your garden.

Protect your children fiercely
sit on them if you need to.
Take them for walks,
Show them little things and
talk constantly.

Make a nice nest.
Share it with friends.
Brag on your
accomplishments.

Don't count your chicks
before they hatch.
Protect your nest egg.
Test your wings once in a while.

Squawk when necessary.
As you age, demand respect.
Leave a little something for
those who care about you.

Chase Butterflies.

Oh Kim, I have never heard this poem before and it is wonderful. I want to put a copy of it in a frame and hang in the Heartbeak Hotel. It is so true too. Awesome post for FF Friday!
Hugs my friend, Amy

Love the hen poem :) Perfect! Also, the story of your husband rolling your hair is the sweetest story ever. You got a keeper there!

Love this poem! You had me at "Plump is good" ha! -and each line got a little better and was so true! My grandpartent lived on a 10 acre farm that was a hobby for my grandfather. It was a child's paradise! We had to go "pick" eggs in the mornings when we visited. They were such treasures! We loved it EXCEPT for the ones where the hens were still sitting...wooooh! those pecking hens!! A good memory....a great poem!!

Oh I love looking into your life on a farm...I live there in my mind, but not in the physical...I am sure I wouldn't have a clue what to do. The poem is great!
Have a great day and weekend!!!

Love the poem. (Especially the Plump is Good part). But there are a lot of great little life lessons in there for all of us.

This is so ironic! I was reading all the posts from Farm Friendly Friday and came to yours and saw my poem. Yes, it's true, I wrote that poem and submitted it to Countryside Magazine back in 2004 or so. It is neat to find it here and know that it is bringing people joy. I like your blog.

Hi again. I just posted how I found the poem and linked back to you. Thanks for your comment. My daughters still have the poem hanging in their homes - and they don't even have chickens : )
All chicken lovers know just how true it is.
