Just a short post today. I have been browsing my photos again. I was going
to enter into a photo contest and then I chickened out. Maybe another time.
I went out to check my chickens and make sure they had enough food and water
before the rain comes.
We have had lots of wind. I noticed that I had a hen who was just sitting in
the yard. I thought that was odd so when I went over to look at her and picked
her up, I noticed that a string from a feed bag was wrapped around and around
her feet and toes. It had been pulled really tight so I was afraid it might have
cut off the circulation in her feet.
It took me ten minutes to unwind it and then I rubbed and rubbed her feet.
I don't keep my feed close to the chicken pen but somehow the string
got in the yard. I imagine from the wind. As I was thinking how
little things like a string could have maimed my hen. It made me think
of other things that I have laying around my animals that could be
dangerous.
I hope you all have a very nice weekend. I will be away from the computer
this weekend. See you next week.

Aww, you chickened out? You should have done it! Next time, just do it (like Nike!). :) This wind is CRAZY! I think I'm going to have to take down the wind chimes, they're getting a little too noisy.
Kim, I think your pictures are beautiful! If you still have time, go ahead and enter them. You might be surprised. :)
Thank goodness you were able to help your chicken. That could have been really terrible!
You should enter a contest. That third photo is stunning. So glad you noticed the poor chicken. Did you really give it a foot massage? :). Have a nice weekend.
Oh I think your pictures are WONDERFUL! Good thing you noticed your poor chicken. The winds have just been wild huh? Have a good week-end!
hope your little hen is okay. poor dear.
Your pictures are worthy of any contest. Isn't it amazing that the little insignificant things in life, like a piece of string can do so much damage.
Kim, you should have entered the contest, I always enjoy your photos.
I can never figure out how chickens can get into so much, while running in a big yard. I am glad you found her, and got her straightened out.~smile~
Enjoy your weekend.
Hugs,
Sue
Don't be afraid to enter a photo contest. Your work is wonderful. I found a little baby bird once with a string of my hair of all things wrapped around his little leg. I cut it off, but I'm afraid it was too late. I don't know if he made it or not. Have a good weekend.
Next time enter. Remember you never feel bad about the things you did and maybe failed at, but the things you never tried is where the regret comes in. I think you would have been very surprised. So glad you found your hen when you did. Hey, my feet are a little sore, shall I hobble on over. LOL!!!!
Kim, your photos are beautiful and you have as much a chance to win as anybody else. Go for it, JUST DO IT.
I'm glad that you rescued your chicken. My husband and I rescued a seagull that had a big ball of yarn wrapped around her foot. She looked weak and was hopping. I walked behind her and threw a blanket over her and held her secure while my husband cut the ball of yarn off her foot. She then flew away. She was very light.
Maybe being away from the computer is a great idea to find some time to accomplish other things. I find that I can accomplish so much more when I'm off the computer. Take care, hugs. JB

I love your photos too!
Poor chicken. Lucky you caught it in time and were able to save her foot.
Have a good weekend too-Kimberly
Just do it Kim, I think your photos are wonderful
I hope your little hen is doing ok now?
And I remember when my sister had chickens, and one hen did get her self into a lot of trouble with some straw twine that got in the pasture.
Big hugs and i think your pictures are very much contest ready!

I'm safely home from my trip. I agree with all those who said you should enter the contest. Have a blessed weekend!
String is very dangerous to a bird. Once one of our male guineas got a string wrapped around his feet - it was tight around one foot and made it so he couldn't take long steps, but he could walk with little baby steps. It took me hours to catch him, as he still could fly. I had to cut the string off; I thought he may loose a toe, but he was ok after all. Have a good weekend!
There's a very important lesson, regarding your hen and the string, for all of us ... it's the little things that we need to be on guard against.
Always love your sunflowers!! Isn't it amazing how something that is so useful..string, can also be dangerous....there is a lesson there.
Have a great weekend!!
that 3rd one is soooo special. sending you some confidence!!
flor linda...
Those are wonderful pictures of sunflowers, I am definitely going to have to plant some next year. It never hurts to enter, what is the worst thing that could happen, you might win.
Oh Kim!!! ENTER! You never know until you do:)))
And you are such a good "pet owner";)
I just got back from a week in Arizona. How Neat that your dad saw it being built. I would have loved to have seen it when there was nothing there. I ran around that island every day!
Have a wonderful new week.
