A Picture of My Soap

Just a quick picture of sunflowers. I am missing sunflowers. I can't wait until I just have a few.

This weekend we decided it was time to cut the soap and see if it was a flop or if it could be salvaged. I think it will be fine after it has finished curing. I just thought  I would show you what we did this morning. Can I complain here? I do not like the time change!!!! Okay that is out of my system now. On to the soap.

I wanted to show you the neat little box my husband made for the soap mold. I think it turned out just fine.
We lined it with wax paper and plastic wrap and used masking tape. I don't think I would use wax paper again as it stuck to the soap.

This is the large slab of soap after we took it out of the box. Notice the sun on the block. It must have been 6:00 A.M. It was the crack of dawn. But because of the time change, it was 7:00 not early at all. The sun was barely coming up and I had already been up for two hours.

Getting ready to make the first cut in the soap. There is just something so nice about cutting into it and it was hard to get through it. Next time, we will pour it into two boxes, this is really thick soap.

The top of the soap is still soft. We need to let it dry in the air. This was right after it was cut into bars. It looks a lot dryer now.

This is how it looks, cut into bars. The lye is still active and will be for another couple of weeks. So it has to sit and age. I love how it looks.

We put it all back in the wooden box. That is a lot of soap. We are going to make another batch, since this was trial and error this time. I am having to remember how to make it and my husband is learning to make it but it is a nice thing to do. My mind is going off in all directions for kinds I would like to make.

Thanks for stopping by today.

It looks good. I think I might be hungry, because it looks like fudge. Now I'm craving brown sugar fudge.

I have wanted to do that. You are making me brave. I really like how yours turned out. I didn't realize how long it took to cure.

Oh, how pretty. I'll bet it smells wonderful. And I don't like the time change, either! The only nice thing was that the kids got to play outside after dinner because it wasn't completely dark yet.

Great job on the soap KIm... It's looking real good. I bet it will be real nice using it once it's cured.

I don't like the time change either. I'll be real sleepy and tired by tomorrow. Hugs. JB

The actual changing of the time doesn't affect me much. I love daylight saving time...when it is light later in the day! Great job on the soap, Kim.

Interesting, Kim! Did you put essential oils in it? What will you use it for? Lye sounds scary. Do all homemade soaps have lye?
I miss sunflowers, too. I'll have to buy some at the grocery store because we have to wait so long for that kind of sun. I am going to plant the bag you sent me from My Field of Dreams! Yahoo!
Have a happy week, sweet friend!

Wow Kim, they look like butter. How do you store it once it is completely cure and dry. Wrapped up in parchment with a fancy sticker and ribbon would be fun. Great job!

I was just about to type that I must be hungry, cause it looks like white fudge.I see that your first comment said the exact same thing. How funny! The soap looks great. I miss sunflowers. I hate the time change too.The flip side is the fact that kids can be outside longer and I can come home in the light when I have to drive to the city.

I didn't realize that homemade soap had lye in it ... that is kind of scary. Although it sounds like it becomes inactive?

I must be about the only one who loves the time change ... well, maybe not the actual change, but I love what it provides ... a longer day. It doesn't really bother me much that I get up when it's dark ... it was dark when I get up before the time change. I just love having more daylight hours after dinner. In the middle of the winter, by the time we finished dinner, I felt like it was time to go to bed because it had been dark so long.
