Playing House

One of the things that is fun to do now that the weather has cooled down for a bit. I love to rearrange the house and since I have always been a big fan of playing house, I like to do it now. When I was a child I was always finding secret places and making my own little hideaway. My favorite was this area next door, when we lived there and the old farm house was still standing. There was this old flowerbed between the old Palm trees. There was a old tank and behind it was this little area that was just the perfect little getaway. I spent hours playing there. Finding broken pieces of plates, old silverware, old jars and bottles. Finding a old piece of wood would be my shelf. I would gather things and invite my dolls and we would play for hours.

Though if you were to ask my cousins and brother, they would tell you it served as my military base from which I launched frontal attacks using black walnuts and dirt clods as my weapons. Those days my dolls stayed safety in the house.

I put all of the fall things I have been making on this shelf. Sorry this isn't a better picture. It is in the middle of the house between rooms so there isn't real good light.

I found my stack of pumpkins I made last year. I do enjoy making these things so much. They are just a fun little project.
I just love my bench. I am so glad I have it to decorate with the seasons. Can you see that silly doll? It was the first project I made after not making things for years and years. I had to remember how to read a pattern again. It is true if you don't use it you loose it.

I love my shelf. I had a friend make it for me years and years ago. It is so old do you see the colors of blue and peach? I have never wanted to paint it but I still love it. She was the reason I got a saw. I was always paying her to make my things. Then she showed me how to get started. She helped me to get over my fear of saws.

I have been spending a lot of time out here on the porches lately. It is finally nice enough to enjoy them. I sit and watch the changing of the shadows, the falling of the leaves, the sounds of the birds passing through. I have noticed that the smell of the air has changed to that of  fall. Even though the weather man says we will have above normal temperatures next week. I know that summer is over and fall is here and I am so happy to greet my old friend.

Have a wonderful day,
~Kim~

This weather is so wonderful! Even though it's supposed to be hotter next week, it's only going to be 80s, which is fine with me!

It's so lovely outside! I keep running the kids outside to go enjoy it. We've got our door and window open to catch all the breezes. :-) Are your chickens still nude?

I'm so glad that you finally got cooler temperatures. I love your big porch too. I miss all the pumpkins this year but next year is another chance to try again.

I used to play house and also school teacher. I was strict, let me tell you but I mellowed when I got my own kids. I used to play house in the woods behind our house. There was a little clearing and beautiful trees with canapes to filter the sun. It was magical. Thanks for the memories. Of course I talked to myself and I also answered myself too, lol...

Your bench is lovely all decorated with your little hooked pillows and other fibre crafts. You must be pleased with how they all turned out. Enjoy the lovely weather. Looking forward to seeing some wooden projects sometime.
Hugs, JB

Wonderful things, just love the shelf with the cubbies, and the porch, you could write a book on there, just from the inspiration of the view alone!

Oh Kim, it all looks so gorgeous. I cannot imagine decorating the outside of my house with *anything*! I love Fall colours so much, even though I only see these colours on trees in pictures. Fall photos do something to my heart. *sigh*

I am in love with your porch. I grew up in a house that had a porch and in the summer my mom would screen it all in. We even slept on it in really hot weather. Your fall bench is lovely. I always enjoy reading about you as a little girl.

Good morning! I have often thought I'd love to tour your whole house room by room, haha. I have a feeling it is full of homemade treasures and special memories. Love your porch. We got sooo much rain yesterday...and hail! It was wonderful huh? I heard more heat next week too, but that's OK, as long as it cools at night! Enjoy your week-end!

You were a spirited little girl...one that books are written about!
Love you decorating..I too had a friend who made things like shelves, etc...I have a bench she made me, and to this day I won't change it. We exchanged, she made me wood work and I made her curtains.

Your porch is welcoming...all your talents are shown in your projects and I love them all...they make a house a home! You have done well

Daughter 2 is like you on rearranging the house too! She loves to do that. And she gets it from me. I enjoy it too. My three brothers and my cousin would tell you that I did the same thing to them with the dirt clods! LOL Hey, it's not like they didn't deserve it.

Your home is so lovely Kim, I'd love to have a wrap around porch such as your's. Do little girls play house anymore? there is so much outside pressure for children to grow up quickly. Free play is so important to a child's well being. I hope you had a good weekend, it is raining here in Maine. Blessings, Julie.
