Tuesday Twaddle

I went for a walk this morning. Just enough cold to be refreshing. The sun is shining to make every thing sparkle with early morning dew. The sky is blue and not a cloud in sight. There are so many doves out in the yard that when I walk and they fly, it is as if a small explosion happens.

I think what I love about November is the surprises that greet me. I had no idea this tree had turned all orangy-red. As I was looking around to make sure no skunks were around, you know how it is with skunks, you smell them before you see them. I saw this at the back of the pasture and I was so surprised how fast that tree had changed. I was just out there and now it is all dressed in fall finery.

The leaves on the tree remind me that this is the first of November and we already have color on the trees. It has been a long time that we have had a normal fall with cooler temps. I am thankful for normal. Even if it is just for this morning as I walked. As Erma Bombeck quipped once, " Normal is just the setting on the dryer."
I think sometimes as I long for normal, it really is a state like " Tomorrow" and the famous " other kids moms" It isn't real, it exists only in my mind when I would rather being doing routine.

I think that is why we are reminded that we only have today. To be thankful for right now in the moment. To be all there where ever I am for right now.  To take the small things that I am given and celebrate them because of the quiet joy that opens my heart and my eyes to the beauty all around me. To be thankful for the blessings that I might miss if I am longing to be something I am not or to be in a place other than where I am right now.

Which of course means today, stacking wood. Moving it to the porch so it will be near the back door. It is lovely wood. I also really enjoy stacking firewood. It always makes me so happy and I feel so rich when we have lots of firewood. I imagine it is equivalent to a squirrel having lots of acorns.

Have a lovely Tuesday.

A great post. One day at a time is my motto and I am thankful for each new day I am given.

Oh yay, I'm so glad you have wood. It really is the nicest feeling. It makes you feel that if anything ever happens to modern convenience, we can still cook and have heat. :) Your tree is beautiful. Nothing around here is orange yet. Just dead, brownish-yellow colors.

Beautiful pictures.
Walking is a wonderful time to just think and ponder.

So glad the you have the firewood that you need.
It's a chore, but one that puts a smile on your face, and in your heart.

Warm wishes...
K.

I like those bird 'explosions' too, until the thought of the Hitchcock movie pops into my head. LOL I've missed reading your daily doses of beauty and positivity! Glad my new computer has arrived and I can read again!

You really do have some lovely trees around you...soo pretty! I love the smell of wood, is that weird, haha?

thank you for your kind words about my sewing but your remark on the buttonholes made me think about this morning when I was making JD's PJ's I was thinking that I can't wait to get to the buttonholes, because they are the easiest thing in pajama top. The collar can be tricky and so can the set in sleeves...I have to concentrate anyway, but those buttonholes are a breeze. Simply put my buttonhole foot on and touch the screen and there they are, haha.

Enjoy the rest of your day!

A beautiful walk and talk.
Thank you for taking us with you.
I love when I am immersed in the moment.

I loved going on your walk with you! Having firewood for the winter was one of the most important things for our ancestors here! It was used for the fires for cooking and for heat! xo Nellie

A, what a good reminder! Yes, we need to be grateful for the here & now. oh, and I can see how you could be so grateful on that walk with the color of those leaves. We live in Alberta & have drifts of snow everywhere, and it's minus twenty five celcius this morning! I'm grateful for the sun shining through the frost on the trees though. popped in through Gumbo Lily's blog - and am happy to have come along your walk. :)

Kim Dear, I have to take issue with your post title, because *twaddle* is supposed to be foolish or nonsensical and your posts are NEVER that. They are often wise and always very sensible and worth reading.

I miss you! I love walking through the fall days. The lovely leaves crunch under my feet and I smile. The animals are happier in the cool weather. We have baby animals everywhere right now. Two sows had piglets and three of our sheep have given birth. I will cook the two pumpkins that are decorating my front porch. They will probably be pie. Have a good week.

Your tree is beautiful! Reds and oranges are my favorite colors in the fall. Love the Erma Bombeck quote...my Mom used to read her column in the paper faithfully. I'd hear her laughing from the next room!

Your November still has so much color. Our November is just brown. Love the Erma quote. And I the squirrel/acorn reference made me laugh out loud

I'm glad you have such nice fall color! Sometimes the trees didn't change until Christmas. Also I'm glad you got your wood. People around here are burning fires and it smells so good.

Your trees are still so beautiful. I've noticed yesterday as I drove through the city that there were still some places where the trees were still in colors. There are so many kinds of tree and also some micro climates that the colors hangs on for quite a while.

That pile of wood sure looks nice. I love stacking wood too. It gives a good feeling to have wood to burn, somewhat like having money to burn, lol... I love your analogy of the acorn and squirrels.

Hope that you have a fine week.
Hugs,
JB

You are rich indeed. I'm going to miss my wood stove so much this winter!
Thank you for your thought provoking post. I so often live in the tomorrow instead of savouring the now.
Your Fall is looking beautiful!

Well, you certainly have a lovely porch:) I cannot grow anything, just don't have the green thumb. But I finally manage to grow coriander! Here in Sicily I cannot find fresh corianer so I planted some seeds...and after 4 weeks I've got corianer leaves! I am so proud you can't imagine! Necessity is the best teacher isn't it? I am following you, maybe I will learn something:)

Sorry about the spelling...I'm an English teacher so it's pretty embarrassing. But it's not me, my computer is playing tricks on me. What I meant is "coriander". Ciao!

I agree with Ms Erma- I wouldn't know normal if it stared me in the face...have a great day!

I so enjoyed walking with you Kim, you described the beauty so well! We too have had a wonderful fall, our leaves were so pretty, but didn't stay on the trees for very long, Dh husbands says it was due to all the rain we had all summer!
I have always enjoyed anything Erma Bombeck wrote, she always caused me to look at life through rose colored glasses, I love the quote of normalcy, as always she was right.
We have been busy redoing our porch, hopefully it will be done next week. The little foal didn't make it she died within a few hours, we think her leg might have been broken at birth. We were so sad!
As always so nice to visit with you.
