Today on Tuesday

This morning I went out to take pictures because it is a perfect beach day. I was trying to wake up because last night at 2:15 we had a skunk after the chickens. We got him out of the yard and blocked the hole he came in through and tried to go back to sleep. I put in ear plugs because of the loud mockingbird that is living in the tree right outside my bedroom, so I didn't hear when the skunk came back. It was carnage and I am just sick.

My white rooster had his comb chewed off and he is so rattled I can't get close to him to see what else. The skunk killed one of my white silkie hens. The skunk tried to kill one of my Cuckoo Marans. She must have been able to get away because she is torn up but she will heal.

Thankfully after the last one got in the coop, we had made the chick coop like fort Knox. Well I thought we did, I thought my big coop was pretty safe but the skunk had bitten through the wire and made a hole to get in. I know it is one of the perils of raising animals. Predictors just come, it also comes from thinking I had a safe coop. We are making plans to build a new one it will be a safe one you can bet on it. I am so glad it didn't get any chicks.
I am also very, very thankful I have so many silkie chicks. On other news. I wanted to show you my husband's area that he built this weekend for his little trees that have grafts.

He is going to build a work bench out here and a place to keep his Japanese Maples out of the direct sun. We really aren't in the zone for the kind he wants to grow and use as Bonsai specimens so he needs this to keep them out of direct sun. It is very nice. We sat and had coffee and the breeze is very nice from the prevailing winds.

I also wanted to show you a picture of the loft. It really has a lot of room. I just never noticed how much because of all of the things that were in it.

I guess you could say it is a before picture. The books will have to be packed away and I just moved
some furniture out here so it didn't look too bare. I love how it looks in the early morning sun. My son's 18th birthday is on Thursday he wanted to go furniture shopping for his birthday. While we are shopping I will be looking for that perfect chair for up here. It seems like it takes me so long to think up ways to decorate. I am just not a fast thinker.

It should be a nice week. All in all. Well except for that skunk, who is going to have a really bad future.

Have a great last week of May.

I'm so sorry about your chickens. Skunks. They stink and they eat our poultry.. What was God thinking? ;)

I love seeing all of the creative things going on at your place. Don't fret on thinking slowly. Slow and steady wins the race, right?

Blessings, Debbie

Kim, I'm sorry about the lost of one of your silkie hen. I know how much you love those feathered babies of your. I hope that your rooster will heal. I hope that the skunk got a a taste of his spurs. You are right about the perils of raising animals. Last year some raccoons came into the barn and ate the new born kittens.

I love the shaded area that your husband built. It will be nice sitting in there to get away from the burning rays of the sun.

The sun is shining in all it's glory today so I must get out there to weed the rest of my garden.

I would love to see your new Fort Knox chicken coop.
Hugs,
JB

Oh no! Poor little rooster. And he was so pretty too. What a horrible little creature. I didn't know they would chew through wire. Have you thought of hardware cloth on the bottom? It's supposed to keep a lot of stuff out. I can't wait to see what you come up with for a new coop. I bet it will be really pretty. :)

oh kim, you have such bad luck with those skunks. we have them here too and they often spray the house. it's such a beautiful time of year but often impossible to open the windows because of the smell!!

Oh, so sorry about your chickens. I didn't realize skunks could be so vicious. The smell is bad enough. I sure you will have the coop re-fortified soon.

Good grief! Poor chickens! Time to set a live trap and then shoot him to death. If he tasted blood, he'll be back for more. Especially now they're wounded and smell like blood.

The little sunshade area looks so nice! So does the loft, wow. So does the loft. You'll have a whole new place to hang out. :-)

Your silkie chicks are beautiful! We declared a NO CHICK YEAR here, and have had only three.

I'm so sorry about the skunk, I've been there, too.

Oh, no! I am so sorry about your chickens! Our daughter and son-in-law have lost several of their chickens to what they believe to be a fox that comes in the daytime when they are at work! Our son-in=law tracked the trail of feathers for a distance.:-( Doggone skunk! Someone please tell me what is their benefit!?!? xo Nellie

I hate that about your chickens. I didn't think skunks were hunters. I guess I always just thought they ate berries & worms, why I don't know...I just did . We had rabbits & a bobcat got them. You're right though, we have to be one step ahead of those predators. Have a blessed day :O)

Oh Kim, I am so sorry to heart your bad news. I know you take excellent care of your chickens. Rotten lousy skunk. Maybe I don't want hens after all. We have loads of skunks, opossum and racoons in our neighborhood. I also have a woodchuck or two living under my shed. I never would think skunks would gnaw through wire.

I hope that skunk gets his just reward!!
I think your loft will make a nice place for
hanging out and relaxing, as will your husband's
new Bonsai area. I'm looking forward to seeing more of them both as you work on them.

I know how you feel. When we started home the girl who was watching the house said that 7 of my chickens had been killed. I feel so violated. I miss them. I know I shouldn't become so attached but I do. I should be thankful that the only storm damage was trees but I miss the chickens.

the loft is beautiful and love the light. I hate about the chickens...the older I get, the harder death is to handle. even when it's a Christian and bound for glory.
