Hooking and Sewing...Finally

Today is a beautiful day. I got up this morning and it seemed like a great day to bake, so I made cranberry-oatmeal muffins and blueberry muffins. It has been so long since I just puttered around the kitchen.

I have my first commission rug to do. I have never had one of those so I am super excited. It is a cow pattern.

It is going to be a black and white cow. So tell me all of you that have Holsteins. Are they black with white spots or white with black spots? I am in sort of a quandary. I never looked at cows with that in mind of picking wool for the colors.

I hooked yesterday. I worked on this rug. I was so nice to pick up my hook again.

I will reverse hook that orange stripe. It just shouts to loudly with the rest of the pattern. I have my other rugs to work on but I am feeling the need to buckle down and get something finished.

I also sat and sewed yesterday.

I love doing letters. For some reason it is just so relaxing to me. I continue to play house getting things back in order. I fixed this on my front porch.

Last week, my two boys who shared a room got to take Emilie's room when she moved out. The boys have been redoing their rooms and making each one into their own. It has been nice seeing their personalities in the way they decorate.
Which leaves the loft now that school is over to be empty. No more school in there. Ron said, I could turn it into my studio if I wanted. I have been happily planning in my mind what I will do. The first thing is I am going to move the bookcases that are in my bedroom up to the loft. It would be so nice to have all of my sewing things in one place rather than spread all over the house in all kinds of places. It sounds like a fun way to start summer vacation. I love rearranging and cleaning things.

Lots of possibilities to dream about. I am so tempted to get some pumpkin seeds and just plant pumpkins. But maybe I will just play house all summer. Goodness knows it has been awhile.

Have a lovely three day weekend. I am really enjoying mine so far.

oh, your own studio is a WONDERFUL start to your new life w/o teaching! love that! and hooray for the boys having their own space, too!

now, you know darn well you can google holsteins to see their patterns. most of the spotted ones i've seen are white with black spots, but lots of black holsteins with white markings, too. :)

Hmmm...I'd say it's a toss up for black vs white spots. But...I'd say the more spotty looking ones are white with black spots. The ones that are mostly black with some white, don't really have spots, but patches of white. Does that help? :) Mooooooo...that's where I'm headed. It's milking time!

I think that your husband's idea of having the loft for your own studio is an excellent idea. It's nice to have everything in one place. Have fun decorating.

We have black holsteins with white blotches and white holsteins with black dots. I prefer the black one with white blotches for a rug.

I love your cow design. Congratulations on your commissioned rug. It will be lovely.

Have a great weekend and please could you pray for my brother in law Henri. His heart is failing and needs to travel to another city to have a pace maker put in on Monday morning. His heart beats so slowly that he's afraid that it will stop beating while he sleeps. Thanks,

Hugs,
JB

Happy Summer(almost)to you! Love your hydrangeas, they are one of my favorite flowers. Congrat's on another school year being done; I bet your boys will love having their own space. Hope you are able to create a wonderful space for your sewing and stitching.
Hugs, Noreen

Wow, what a great idea! It gets hot up there, but you'll be up there where all the fun stuff goes on. I'm glad you're getting back to normal. We're getting Internet tomorrow and I'm terribly excited.

Congrats on your first commissioned rug. I love the rug you are currently hooking. I bet it feels good to have hook in hand with life getting back to normal. What fun to turn the loft into your studio! You deserve it after all the years teaching there.

Just think of all the fun you are going to have organizing the loft. You can get an electric tea kettle and never have to leave once you get going on a project.

A commissioned rug? How exciting. I can't wait to see it when it's finished.

How blessed you are to have your own studio. I too love cleaning and rearranging - sounds like a wonderful way to spend your summer.

the muffins sound wonderful as does having a commissioned piece. holsteins around here seem to be white with black splotches.

Well, I asked my husband about Holsteins, and he answered, "Both!" So, there you have it.:-) Not much help around here.:-)

It sounds like you have had a wonderful day! Baking, hooking, and sewing! Back to "keeping house." Enjoy, Kim!

Your very own studio is fantastic! It would be so much fun to set it up. I wish I was there to help you. I've always wanted my own hooking room. Did Kessie draw that rug? It's a great design and it will be fun to hook

WOW! I am so impressed...a commissioned rug! That is a great design and will be fun for you to hook. I am amazed at how far you've come with your hooking. White with black, I say. Sounds like a great summer to just relax and make your own space and play house.

Read the first Boxcar Children again. Remember when they made their little "house"? LOVE.

I have loved counted cross stitch since I was a child. You are so right about it being relaxing. This post has inspired me to blow the dust off my sewing box & stitch a little. Have a blessed day :O)
