El Nino is Here

Happy Friday!! If you watch the news, I am sure you have seen footage of the mud slides and the rain. This is where I live, most of the roads leaving or entering Bakersfield are now closed to mudslides and flooding.

Here is a news article link.

We are supposed to have more rain and unsettled weather for the rest of the weekend. Yesterday, we had the most amazing rain storm that just lasted for over an hour. Here when we have a rain storm our rain is measured by tenths. Rarely inches. So to get rain like this in such a short amount of time is amazing. Not to mention with all of the years of droughts and fires there are no vegetation left on the hill sides to keep the hills from sliding. This is just the beginning. I didn't expect it to look like this already. This morning because of the rain we have had, it was so foggy. We never have fog in October either. Or not in my memories.

No one has been hurt, so that is always a good thing.  I did my rain dance all week. I washed cars, I washed windows everything that could be washed. At least now when I watch the rain, the windows are clean. It is still very warm though. Which is interesting. To be sitting outside on the porch watching rain in shorts.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend,
~Kim~

Rain
The rain is raining all around,
It falls on field and tree,
It rains on the umbrellas here,
And on the ships at sea.

I'm glad that you're getting rain...but I'm sorry about all the problems it's causing! How much rain did you end up getting yesterday? Stay safe out there!

We have not had much rain here....dribbles here and there. And it is soo warm and muggy. I am not enjoying it much I will confess. Sorry about the mud slides.....Have a good week-end!

All those closed roads! I hope nobody was planning any LA trips this weekend. All that rain is supposed to hit here this afternoon, so I'm doing my grocery run this morning. You guys have fog in October! That blows my mind.

Mother Earth is reshaping herself. Maybe rain will become a common thing now.

We had some tenths of rain last night but nothing that shows. I hope the trees and plants are refreshed. It will take inches to catch up and fill the ponds again.

Glad people are safe.

Yay! Yay! Yay! Rain! I'm glad!
We have a lot of warm rains, but growing up in Washington we were constantly damp and shivering.
Figures that you'd wash all the windows and then it rains. Rain dance indeed!

We have seen these reports in the UK about the mudslides.
Nature can be awesome - the important thing is to be safe.

I hope you enjoy your rain safely ...

I do like that picture of the pumpkins

All the best Jan

Barely a drop has fallen down here, so far. Still warm and humid though. Enjoy your rain and I hope and pray there is not too much devastation from it all.

We measure our rain in tenths of an inch too! I'm glad you're getting rain and I hope that you will have some slow, soaking rains instead of those downpours. We *might* get some rain this weekend too. I hope so.

I'm so glad! Is it snowing in the mountains, too? That's most important...

El Nino for Australia generally means drought. We are bracing for the very hot, dry summer predicted. I am pleased to read that El Nino for you means rain. Hope you don't get too much though. Keep safe.

Oh dear, the mudslides and closed roads seems very serious. It's either feast or famine with the rain.

I hope that you will all still be safe and sound with even more rain in the forecast.

We're having rain again today and it rain hard for a short time and the it slowed down and the sun peeped out and it got windy and. I did managed doing a bit of digging in the mud to finish off a flowerbed border that I've been wanting to do for years but never seemed to get to it on time until now.

I had so much mud under my boots they felt very heavy and so awkward to walk in.

Take care Kim and stay safe.
Hugs,
JB

Strange and scary! The weather can be so freaky but as you say, at least no one has been hurt and we pray it stays that way. Hope the rain helps CA.
Glad you got the good of it too!

Rain is good when you need it but a deluge of it can be scary. - Hoping it eases up a little for you. - It's expected to rain here this weekend.

OH MY! Since I don't watch the news, I had no idea. Thanks for sharing the link.
I am happy you are finally getting some rain, but I hope it comes down a little more gently and doesn't cause more problems.
Stay safe, my friend.
Hugs :)

Oh gosh that is scary! I knew y'all had a drought...we do too, but I didn't know you got all that rain. Be careful when out and about!

I think we are getting your storm now; though it's not as rainy here as it was there.
It's good that no one has been hurt. Maybe you'll have a wet season and get all the moisture that you guys need.

Be safe.
