I read this the other day, from one of my favorite books, The Scent of Water by Elisabeth Goudge.
"There was gold everywhere, drifts of it on the elm tree, flakes of gold under our feet, gold dust on the hedges, liquid gold in the refracted falling light."
October is such a nice month, because I can still hope that the rains will come. I can open the house and the windows to let in the outside. Changes come and changes go. In October, it seems they are easier to live with somehow. I went out this morning, and in the early morning sky, was the Moon, and Venus, and Jupiter and Mars. It was so lovely, as the sky wasn't blue yet so they looked like they were on pieces of velvet.
This is when I wonder at my brain. Did I sing praises to the Lord for His creativity? No, I launched into singing, " When the moon is in the seventh house, and Jupiter lines with Mars...." So go figure, I was in sixth grade when that song was popular and I knew those lyrics like the back of my hand.
I hope you have a lovely weekend. I have to get some of my flowerbeds cleaned and start getting ready to batten down the hatches around here. Time to put summer away.
What ever you find to do, I hope you can do it with all of your might.

Hi Kim! You're right. October is full of change, most of the time.
I keep forgetting that next weekend and the next we'll have grands here to play. I'm just sort of floating through October!
Bill was out pulling up stuff in our flowerbeds this morning! It's time!
I wonder where I put The Scent of Water. Better go look!
I'm welcoming the changes in the weather. Bring it on, man! We've been able to sleep with the window open, and it's been wonderful having fresh air in the house again. Today, though, some very large pale-colored insect ambushed me and ran under the dishwasher before I could identify it. It flew, so I don't think it was a scorpion. I'm terrified to stand near the dishwasher in bare feet.
I love the changes that October brings ~ cool crisp mornings. Fresh crisp air and sunshine warming your face. I have to start to put Summer away as well. Sad to see it go, but love this fall weather ~ have a wonderful weekend!
It's the darkness creeping in that gets me but we have been enjoying lovely blue skies and liquid gold so I am glad for that!
Blessings x

Yes, it's the season to start to hunker down (as we say). I started emptying the flower pots, putting the lawn chairs in the garage etc. I have to mow the lawn one last time and then get the mower winterized and tucked into the back of the garage.
Yes...it's time to put the gardens to bed...finish stacking the firewood...give the coop one last deep cleaning... watch the leaves fall...and all those acorns and chestnuts...I just love autumn...
The Age of Aquarius reminded me of when I was12 and saw The Fifth Dimensions perform live at the Des Moines State fair!
It was such a thrill for a country girl like me.
WE have had frost so I had taken care of my flowers weeks ago, Kim. Have a great weekend!
You were praising God with your voice...Make a joyful noise unto the Lord. I'm sure he smiled with that kind of jubilation.
Hi Kim, I love October too and this year we had awesome weather to work outside and I've taken full advantage of the perfect weather. We had a little rain yesterday afternoon and all is well with the season so far. I'm so thankful. Monday is THANKSGIVING here in Canada.
I've hunkered down and have been cleaning out the flowerbeds from morning after work till it's time to go to the barn and only stopping for a quick lunch in between. After supper it's too dark to work outside...
There still so much to do but at least the bulk of the work is about over half done.
Just being aware and loving what October has to offer and all it's gifts is praise to God as God is more interested in what's in the heart than in what is in the head and on the lips I think... We can praise with our heart...
Sorry I've been so absent from Blogger lately but day light time is really running away fast this time of year. For once I think I'll be ready for when Spring comes instead of being so behind in cleaning out flowerbeds and gardens all the time.
Big October HUG.

Oh, I love that wheelbarrow full of pumpkins!!!
Hugs :)

October is a wonderful month and your beautiful description fits it perfectly....I think we will all miss the long days but I always tell myself it will give me more time to knit and do the winter type of things I enjoy....I do miss getting outside more when it's really cold but I am glad that I can enjoy the different seasons.....
My favorite time of the year....the sunflowers are gorgeous against the beautiful blue sky!!
We too are enjoying the morning sky. I had the grands and they were up before the light and we all enjoyed the wonder of God's creation. Oh, so know that song also! We are enjoying the change. Have a great week.
October can be such a wonderful month, and the colours are so special.
I do like your pumpkin wheelbarrow
Have a good week
All the best Jan

Sweet post! Love the header picture of the fallen leaves... very pretty.
Hard to believe that this Fall month of October is half way over!
Have a great week of Fall preparations ... cleaning out beds, and all the other good stuff you've got on your list.

I love the poem. I may have to add it to my sidebar, if I can find a photo that does it justice. October is also my favorite month. When we get an early winter I feel like I missed the best part of the year. I also really enjoyed your story! That is amazing and I'm glad you shared it. I don't know why I find the whole lost and then found idea so incredible, but it makes me happy. Thank you for sharing. That is exactly what I wanted and it is much appreciated.

Changes, for sure! The weather is the opposite of a couple of months ago, when it was cool in the mornings and hot in the afternoon. Now it's hot in the mornings and cools off early because the sun is slant and goes down so soon. I don't have to shut the house up against the heat of the day, but can leave the windows open day and night. I love that mildness. But soon, I'll have to start building fires!
