A Perfect October Day

It is a perfect October day. It is cloudy, we had a front move in from Alaska last night. The song sparrows are outside my office door, singing and it is lovely and quiet. I have the doors opened and finally jeans and a long sleeved shirt. I imagine by the afternoon, it will be back to shorts and a T shirt but for now, it feels like fall. We still have unsettled weather around with thunderstorms in the forecast. Bliss. The Canadian geese continue to fly overhead. I am enjoying seeing all of the different birds flying through.

Do you love Mums? I know I sure do, and this time of year, I start pining to plant some, I love all of the colors in the fall. Ron planted my sweet peas for me in the garden yesterday where my tomatoes were. He is such a better gardener than me. He worked manure into the soil and then worked it all in before he planted seeds. I am not very kind to seeds in my garden, I am more of the type of gardener that says, " Buck up there, you need to work hard to get down in the hard dirt to make yourself stronger!" That is why he always has such nicer, longer lasting gardens than me.

I hope your day is lovely. I fixed biscuits and gravy this morning for breakfast. This was a first for me. I just normally buy that package of gravy mix at the store. I have I am embarrassed to say, never made gravy from scratch like that before. It turned out perfect. So did my biscuits. I felt pretty happy about it. We don't normally eat like that anymore, but today just felt like it needed a celebration of some kind for the lovely weather.

Happy Sunday!
~Kim~

The irony is that the more we fight age, the more it shows. Paint on a 50-year-old face brings to mind a Gilbert and Sullivan comic figure. Smooth the cheeks, and suddenly the ear lobes and hands look out of place. Do we run around in October, painting the gold leaves green?

What a beautiful day.

Congratulations on the gravy. My dogs ate gravy last night because I couldn't get dog food. There were no complaints.

Have a blessed week.

Such a pretty red tree. Is it a maple?

I love biscuits and gravy, but rarely make it anymore. I'm glad yours turned out so well. Now you'll have to make it more often!

Happy fall.

Yay for biscuits and gravy the homemade way! Yum!
I like to simply dump seeds in the earth, too. I still haven't planted my bulbs.

You're lucky to have your own private gardener. What a luxury.

Your Mums are so pretty. They really brighten up a Fall day and your tree is so colorful.

It was cold today and even though the sun was shining, we had a few snow flurries this afternoon. They melted as soon as they hit the ground. We didn't get enough to bother mention it.l ol... but winter is not far away. Yikes...

Enjoy your new week Kim.
Hugs,
JB

Good for you for making your own biscuits and gravy. I've had plenty of biscuits but never with gravy. I usually smother them with butter and jam.

What kind of gravy are you making if I may be so bold as to ask? I feel so ignorant about this.

I like your quote at the bottom. Better to have a smile on your face and a happy countenance than plastered on make up (but I still won't leave the house without some make up on!)
Yes, I love mums too, and those white pumpkins are cool!

I'm glad for the weather relief..the flooding sounds terrible in places. I totally agree with the quote, but it is hard to ignore wrinkles and sagging skin...especially at my age, when I should not have that many yet. LOL!

Hard to think of it being autumn when you mention planting out in the garden ... oh, I know peas are a cool weather plant, but I guess I'm just used to autumn being a segue to colder and colder weather ... no cool weather plants in the garden, come October, in these parts! ;-)

It's a lovely October morning here, too! It rained a bunch last night, and today it's sort of cool and killingly humid. I'm hoping for dryer air to move in. The kids are out playing in wet sand and puddles. :-)

What pretty fall colors and mums. I don't plant them because usually we get a freeze that takes them out just after we plant them so you waste your money. Mmmm to the biscuits and gravy.

Hi, Kim! I've been away a bit, so I've missed out on some of your blogging. Sounds like you are having a great October. xo

I miss having time to read your words every day. I wish I could have biscuits. Still haven't had carbs since the third week of May. And I miss them. You'd think that, by now, I would be totally over it but I'm not. So glad you're getting some fall! We are too. I love it!

Your right it WAS a beautiful October day here. It was very and nice and somewhat cool clear into the middle of the afternoon. Warmed up then and it was back to a tank top but it's coming I know. Biscuits and gravy sound SOOOOOOO good, but I am afraid they are a thing of my past...at least for a good long while, sigh. We have a restaurant near us that makes them almost good enough to die for. Sure hope you have a good week!
