In The Garden

My only sunflower. It came up by itself. I have been waiting to take its picture as it opened so slowly.
I walked out with my camera and what do I find? This with bites out of it. I did catch the culprits. I was scolded as Mr. Parrot flew around and around me, because I had disturbed his early morning breakfast.

They normally wait until the sunflower is dried but not today. The blue jay was helping him eat too.
I did see the baby blue jay.

He is still all fuzzy with down all over his head. I think he was supposed to be keeping watch and I walked out the gate and caught his Dad and the Parrot.

We planted and planted and we have some tomatoes on the porch that we wanted to wait one more week before we put them out so next weekend they will make it out there. We planted tomatoes, peppers, okra,
summer squash and zucchini, corn, green beans cucumbers. Lots and lots of pumpkins. Gourds and cantaloupe. Three egg plants and some sunflowers. I still need to put in a long row of sunflowers. I was so tired of being on my hands and knees, I just couldn't face it. Not to mention the ground got very hot and it was burning my knees. The okra should love it.

This first bed is all pumpkins. The whole thing. I planted and planted. The middle one is the corn and green beans and squash and cucumbers. The very far one is beets, nothing but beets and a row of sunflowers.
This first one is the gourds and cantaloupe and the middle one is  be tomatoes and peppers.
I think we have 55 tomato plants. Give or take, I can remember how many peppers but a lot.
We are supposed to have a heat wave this week and I am sure the seeds will love it. Weekend before last, we planted zinnia and hollyhocks seeds in one of my flowerbeds and it was warm that weekend and by Tuesday they were all up.

As you can tell I need to weed this part of the berries, I can't use a hula hoe yet. I thought my hens
were so cute eating the ripe berries that I just had to get a shot of them as I was walking around.
I just love to be out there in the early morning, with my hens following me around just chattering among themselves.

The parrot was waiting for me to leave. I know that as soon as I came inside he flew back. This will be all that is left I think by the end of the day. The parrots are pretty though. They are so big and the blue green color is just lovely.

Have a lovely Monday,
~Kim~

You certainly did a lot of planting. You will have so many delicious fresh veggies and fruit. That is such a treat. I have a small garden and I am hoping for the very best, since last year was not that successful.
The parrot and blue jay really are beautiful. Blessings, Catherine

The big old bites out of that sunflower made me laugh. I'm sure you'll have a huge flock of parrots this summer! We don't have parrots out here, but we do have lovebirds.

You are so lucky to have such beautiful birds...that parrot is gorgeous. I'll bet it's hard not to be mad at them sometimes, though. I would be if he ate my sunflowers too! I'm getting lots and lots of volunteers, from the sunflowers you gave me last summer. I'm hoping to transplant them soon, and have a whole bunch to remind me of you!

Gosh.....I did not know Parrots roamed free in your area??!! You sure did a lot of planting, but will be exciting to see the benefits of your hard work.

We are getting lots of rain right now....our back yard is flooded, I went to check the basement....a lot of water. Guess it will be awhile before we get out to plant.

WOW!! That is one HUGE garden! It's wonderful! I am sure you are beat but it's well worth it. Glad someone (or something, lol) will be loving the coming heat wave, because this gal is dreading it, lol. Enjoy your day!

A friend just asked me if I had sunflowers, and I said that I don't have room, but then I began to wonder - maybe I can put one behind the tomatoes against the fence....
It would be wonderful to have a sunflower! But I don't think it would draw any parrots in our neighborhood ;-)

I can't believe what a huge garden you're planting. Harvesting and preserving would do me in, lol.

I'm sure that you share a lot with your family.
It was warm here a few days ago but it cold today.

I bought a package of sunflowers but the seeds are so small, I couldn't believe it. It's still too cold to plant them yet.
Hugs,
JB

I love the parrot! I wouldn't want a parrot eating my sunflowers, though!
