Wooden Planter Boxes

Remember when I told you that I had a project for my husband? Ta-Da!! He whipped this up for me on Sunday. I stained it and it took two days sitting outside to be able to finally bring it in the house. I found the directions and the tutorial on Shanty 2 Chic. She made hers 4 feet long and I thought that was too big for my table so I had my husband make two planters out of it so I have two 2 ft ones. I used everything else she did, I used the upholstery nails which gives it such a nice look.

I had some old barn wood that I have been hoarding saving. I thought about making them out of that but decided I would try it with new pine. I didn't even beat them up to make them look old. I wanted to add the flowers that she has in her post but decided, I would use canning jars since I love canning jars.

I only had silk sunflowers, I can't remember where I put my spring flowers but you know how much I like sunflowers best so this looks okay. I was rummaging around in my cupboards trying to find enough jars to put in the box and I ran across this.

I had made that back in the summer and I was so sick of it when I finished it and today when I ran across it stuck away, I thought it was cute so I put it out. I am always glad when I can shop my house. It helps winter doldrums so much. I always like to play house early in the morning, just after my husband leaves for work. Today my son was up getting ready to go to school, and you know I do things they don't see, like get up on my washer and dryer to get in those cupboard or stand on the top of my car to get in the cupboards in the garage. He had a really concerned look on his face as he asked, " Mom, are you sure I can't do that for you?"
It just made me laugh because you know he is 18 soon to be 19 and I am ancient and should be in a rocking chair. :)
I just wanted to share with you the great work my husband does and always puts up with my hair brained schemes. I hope you day is off to a great start!
~Kim~

Good morning! Oh, I LOVE it...how cute is that? I love even more the remark from your son...Now that I am 57 my boys all think I am WAY over the hill and need to be catered to. Most time I just let them think it, ; ) haha Have a wonderful day!

That flower box is great! I love it with the sunflowers, it looks so cheerful. I never saw that little mat you mad, it's so cute! Although you know how I yearn for chickens, so anything with chickens makes me happy. :)

What a great idea to cheer up your kitchen during the winter days without spending lots of money. I love flower box, the Mason jars and the chicken table topper. I don't remember ever seeing the chicken mat before now.

I'm wondering what you're going to work on next. I'm still quilting very slowly but surely. I have many interruptions but I'm keeping to my promise to quilt till I can take it off the frame. Hugs, JB

There are a lot of gifted and talented folks at your house Kim, I have seen these boxes all about blogland and I think it is wonderful that Ron made you one, and the center piece is perfect, the next time you get tired of a project just send it my way! ~smile~I too love to shop my house, and often find forgotten treasures.

I have been off line this week,(yes again), and am trying to catchup, so rather than comment on your other post, I will comment right here.

Enjoyed the chat on the porch post, a beautiful quilt it will be, loved all of the questions, I am a night owl, but a morning person too, I simply do not like to sleep, I guess I am afraid I might miss something. lol
The enjoying the storms was an awesome post, I love to walk in the rain which i did yesterday and was thinking of you as i walked. enjoyed your Simple Womans daybook, post too

Oh Kim,loved the Chance encounter post!! How perfect is God's timing, God knew who needed what! What a great post! Our military men and women and their families make so many sacrifices for us to enjoy the freedoms we have.
I have been off line for a week, just getting a lot done and I am so glad to be out and about in blogland today.
Enjoy your weekend,
Love,
Sue

I think you and your hubby could easily have a tv show, featuring all the projects you both constantly are working on, and spiced with your wise words in between! :)
