Lovely Spring Days

I hope you all had a nice Easter. We did. It was such a beautiful day. Perfect weather. Lovely people to visit with.

This is my current project. When I saw it, I thought oh easy peasy. I could whip this out and get it framed and it will be so much fun. It has the loveliest colors. Then I got the pattern. It has six pages!

Six very involved pages.I don't know if I am the slowest cross stitcher in the world but I have been working on that tiny roof on that house for three days. I feel like I am no closer either. Did I mention that is has the prettiest colors. After I did The Eye is on The Sparrow, by Beth Twist, I never wanted to do a big project. I think I worked on that for three years. Two pages has been my max. I still really like it so maybe that part will win out.  Its much bigger than that picture.

I am ready to get back to Magdalena's Goat. I really love this pattern and I love how it is turning out.

He is a really nice goat. I thought I had more done. It will be so nice to get back to this, but I am beginning to wonder about my sanity and why do I have to always make big projects? When I was reading Saundra's blog from her rug camp, those giant rugs she posted pictures of, really had me wondering how long would one of those take.( ***I slapped myself upside the head and came back to my senses.)

One of the things I do love is working on wool projects from Blackberry Primitives. I have always wondered what certain colors were in some of Maggie's patterns so I ordered some wool and some velvet. Oh what wonderful colors and textures.

The top picture is velvet and the bottom is wool. I love having all of these lovely colors to work with.

I forgot to post this picture of one of the other projects I finished last week.

I think I will frame it. Its not something I do that much, frame things. It was such a fun little project though. It was fast too. One single piece of pattern.

I have the house cleaned up from yesterday now. Time to move on toward May. We have lots of birthdays in May. I think even more than March birthdays.

I hope that wherever you are today is the best day ever.

I take for granted one of the things I love about California, is the fresh fruit and vegetables. This week, I saw so many little fruit stands with strawberries. When I made my jam last week, it was with all fresh berries. I remember talking to a lady from Cambodia. She was one of the boat people a long time ago. She said, that coming here was so shocking after starving, to see all of the food that grows every where. I was reminded of that this week.

We had a quiet but lovely Easter dinner with just my husband George, myself, and my son Vaughan. No rushing and fussing but very relaxed and pleasant.

I love that lovely cross stitch pattern and you are right, the colors are lovely. It will look fantastic once you get it done and framed and your alphabet sampler too.

You must be making big rugs because they are so nice and pleasant to look at. I know, they are a lot of work but once they are finished, they give greater satisfaction.

It was sunny and warm this afternoon and I worked outside fertilizing the lawn until I ran out of fertilizer and had to make a trip uptown to get some.

Hugs, Julia

wow I would never be able to attempt that cross-stitch piece. I just got new glasses and thought I would order a small kid to dabble.
I love your goat I have never done any of the magdlena patterns. That wool is so yummy!
We do forget just how blessed we are in this country, and it is good to remember.

I am loving your Magdalena Goat rug!!! What a fun pattern.
Oh, the goodies from Blackberry Primitives. So wonderful but probably broke the bank!!!

Congratulations for your tenacity on working cross-stitch designs, that is far too tedious a task for my eyesight and arthritic fingers. Hooking on Magdalena's Goat is wonderful and agree with Lauren (Rugs and Pugs) that you broke the bank with the purchase of that wonderful wool.

You are working on some lovely projects. I stopped doing large cross-stitch designs many years ago. My eyes aren't getting any younger :/ need just the right light, so I am all about quick and easy. Normally I do frame everything, but need to start thinking outside the box. Wish my sewing skills were better. :) Enjoy the rest of your week.

I just got His Eye is on the Sparrow mostly kitted up. I'm waiting on a few skeins of floss I had to order. Yikes! I'm wondering about my sanity already before taking the first stitch. I may have to re-do the working copy I made and make it larger.

At least big rugs can be used for a practical purpose when they are done. But that's not the sole point of making needlework projects, is it? You've gotten some luscious looking fabrics.

I don't quite know where to begin my friend....this post is chocked full of every kind of beauty and fun I'm a bit speechless. Your finished stitching is so fun...but all those dang letters wouldn't be fun for me. Give me rooftops LOL. But seriously, I just finished a brick house similar to one in your new pattern on the Christmas sampler SAL I am working on and those bricks took forever it seemed. But it will be a beautiful piece when you finish it....and I know you will, indeed, finish it. Hey, if you can do His Eye Is On The Sparrow, you can tackle anything. Don't let the number of pages daunt you... I have patterns that are rather simple but that are spread out over many pages, and rather complex designs that are crammed into one or two pages. I have always loved that verse. And your goat is FANTASTIC!! Those colors are wonderful!!! He is definitely a very good and fine goat and he makes me smile. Ahhh, those berries...what a beautiful photo! I can almost smell them. Take care ~Robin~

So happy for you that your Easter weekend was so nice, and spent with your sweet family!

Lovely colors in those fabrics...they will be a delight to work with.
I love all of your projects, and the goat rug is turning out very nicely.
How about that sampler with the wool penny...it turned out beautifully, and the wool penny is darling on it!

Yes, you are fortunate to live in a place of plenty with the fruit and veggies that you have access to.
Lucky you!

Have a wonderful day.
