Almost One Year Older

On Saturday, I will be one year older. Drat! I have always felt that the day the Kentucky Derby lands on my birthday, it is a very special day. Though, no Kentucky Derby will ever be as good as the year Secretariat won the Triple Crown. I tune in every year to watch the horse races still.

This year though, I have to tell you, tomorrow is World Naked Gardening Day. I won't link the article because there is a old duffer running around in his birthday suit. I will not be participating. There are other things I would rather do on my birthday, like chop weeds. Ron said, he would help me chop the rest of the weeds in the pasture. I know, weird request, but I just can't sit out there when weeds are every where. It really does, keep the dreams at an all time low.

I have invited Ben and Megan over with the kids for dinner. I decided that I wanted to make a fancy dinner for me.
I am fixing:
Balsamic Grilled Chicken/Salmon with spiced honey bacon glaze.
Creamy Cole Slaw
Grilled vegetables
Baked Beans
For dessert I am making a
Strawberry short cake, cheese cake.
Just because it is my birthday.  I thought it sounded like a fun thing to do. I have these recipes pinned if you want to look at the wonderful pictures of them.

The last time we went out to dinner, I decided I am done with going out to dinner. I can fix better food at home. With better ingredients. We went to our favorite Mexican Restaurant, for our anniversary.  I won't tell you how bad the service was. The people who came in way after us were done by the time we even saw a server.  Then the food came the first bite, I could taste rancid lard. Ron had a taco, and the meat was raw. Ron told the waitress and she told us it wasn't. Right then and there, I decided I would rather cook.

We are having lovely clouds. I felt like it was a gift from God this morning. He kept it cloudy so I could get my flowerbeds cleaned, and they stayed that way until I got to where I wanted to stop in my mind. Then the sun came out and the clouds parted. I felt very thankful and special. It is supposed to be 97 today.

So that is the plan for my birthday. I already feel very blessed and thankful. I have been given such a wonderful life. Happy May!

Naked gardening?? What a way to get horribly sunburned, or covered in ticks! Your birthday sounds lovely. I'm glad we don't live out there, because I'd be too sick to come.

That's too bad about the food. I'm getting the same way--it's so much easier and cheaper to find a good copycat recipe and make it at home.

Hope your birthday is the best ever. Surrounded by loved ones, eating good food, what could be better?

If I gardened in my birthday suit, the weeds would pull themselves up and run away...hey, I may try that!

Happy day before your birthday, Kim! You'll have a great day! Dining out isn't that fun, I agree. It's fun to treat the kids sometimes because they are still young and appreciative of restaurant food! Ha!
Your dinner sounds delicious! Take some photos!
I am so very glad you were born, friend!
Way to go with all that weeding. I award you the Best Weeder Ever Award!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY Kim, how wonderful that you'll celebrate at home with your family with such a nice meal. I love salmon and if I was closer, I'd join you for your Birthday.

I'm so glad you'll be keeping your clothes on for gardening. I think I'll keep mine on too... hehehe.
Have a great time.
Hugs,
JB

You have the same birthday as one of my sisters! I wonder if it's the same year, too....
I realized the truth behind that quote from L'Engle a few years ago. I feel as though I am all the ages I have ever been.

You are already enjoying your birthday in anticipation. Have a wonderful day!

I'll be working in the garden today, but I will NOT be naked (I'm sure my neighbors will appreciate that - ha!).
