I asked and he said yes, so today's post will be written by Mr. I Bonsai, known on this blog as Ron.


Good morning to all of you "My Field of Dreams" followers! Since Kim posted the macro photos many of you have wanted to know more about how these pictures were taken. I have an iPhone 4s and use the Olloclip 3-in-1 lens to get the macro photos. 

The lens slips over your iPhone lens and is reversible so you have a choice of which one to use. It has a Fisheye, Wide-angle and a Macro lens.

 

To use the Macro lens you unscrew the wide-angle lens and slip the attachment over your camera lens.

There is an adapter that lets you use this lens with an iPhone 5,

If you have an iPhone 4 this is a good lens to use.  Other lenses are available for later model iPhones that have the protective cup for the macro lens that keeps you from bumping the lens against the object you are photographing, and is one thing I wish this lens came with. I bought mine at our local Best Buy, and you can buy them online too. Taking the photos is fun, you just have to get very close to the subject. I found that getting the iPhone to focus was difficult, since you have to touch the screen to focus then touch the screen again to take the photo, all while trying to keep the camera steady, so I took between 5 and 10 pictures of each subject in the hopes of having 1 or 2 good pictures. I have a small stand/tripod which helps keep the camera steady, but I did not use it for the macro photos I took, I forgot I had it in the excitement of the morning! I've tried using the other lenses and they do work as advertised, but I have not had occasion to use them yet. I hope you have fun using your iPhone to take photos, with the olloclip lens you can get a wider range of interesting pictures.
