Summer in July

Its just another day in July, a summer day. We have a fire now, so it smells of burning and there is that red look to the sunrise. It is so disheartening when the fires start. When they start the evacuations and all of that. I find my thoughts on the poor displaced people.

When we brought this cactus back it was such a tiny little thing. It just keeps growing and growing. We need to put it in a bigger pot, but there are all of those spikes. We even have the pot and the cactus mix. Just the wrapping it up in carpet or tarp and doing the re-potting.

I finally picked vegetables from my little garden. Its been really interesting to see if we could. I picked stuff because of the heat we have been having. I am very happy with the fresh goodies so far. We have green beans and some squash coming on.

Now for my next projects.

Here are some Maggie patterns I am going to start very soon. I just love working on these patterns. They always make me so happy.

I plan on working on this today. I really want to get it finished. I don't know about binding though. It might have to wait. Binding when its 111 is just no fun. I just have had such a hard time sitting still lately. I guess its cooler fiddling with stuff in the house rather than hooking.

I have these two patterns that I got from Saundra at Woodland Juction. My hardest problem is deciding which one to start first.

The first one" Mighty Whale", I have wanted to hook forever. I have always loved that pattern. Then the second," Magdalena's Goat" just makes me so excited, because it is going to be such a challenge for me as a rug hooker.
Both look like such fun to me.
That is on my list of things I want to get done. Plus trying to be a better blogger and get my blogging mojo back.
I hope your week is a good one. Its too hot here to do much outside. So its a very good excuse to stay inside and do inside projects.
Have a wonderful week,
Kim

“I had not known before that love is obedience. You want to love, and you can’t, and you hate yourself because you can’t, and all the time love is not some marvelous thing that you feel but some hard thing that you do. And this in a way is easier because with God’s help you can command your will when you can’t command your feelings. With us, feelings seem to be important, but He doesn’t appear to agree with us.”

Nice to see another post from you, Kim!
So many fun projects on the horizon. I look forward to watching your progress.
Wildfires are so terrifying. Prayers that they remain in remote areas.

Well, I can't wrap my head around several things in your post: 1) transplanting a cactus (I dislike transplanting any plant and always procrastinate doing it...that cactus would NEVER see a bigger pot in my world) 2) 111º temps 3) hooking in 111º temps 4) gardening in 111º 5) living in the fear of those fires and 6) choosing which of all those fun projects to start first. I have toyed doing that whale one as well, but I haven't even finish/finished the Beast, so no more (hooked) whales until I do (I do have a couple of punched whales to do too). I love Maggie's Homestead...and of course I love Crowley. I hooked that many, many, years ago. Have fun choosing...stay cool and safe... ~Robin~ (Fascinating quote....I'm still pondering it.)

You are very courageous to hook in that heat.

You got a nice harvest. I've been harvesting from the garden for quite a while but the tomatoes are still small and green although I have some peppers ready to eat.

I've had small cactus before and even started some from seeds but soon got rid of them so I would NEVER buy a prickly cactus that grows big and that needs repotting, no matter how beautiful the bloom. Cactus must be a thing that we, northerners don't like to deal with.

I hope your day goes well and that you manage to stay cool.
Hugs,
Julia

Watching the wild fires in California is so sad since I lived there. And when I hear of an earthquake with damage which also can cause fires freaks me out since I lived along the San Andreas fault line. Now to something more pleasant.....

You Do have a lot of items on your plate girl ~ and finish those first. I also love Maggie's designs and have hooked a few, plus have some of her booklets with designs waiting. BTW, the Mighty Whale has a dotted (dash) area in the sky. Those where the areas of less noticeable change of color you could choose to change or do your own thing. Heck, I do my own thing with patterns I buy anyway, lol.

I somehow missed seeing this post! We're getting CA's second hand smoke and it's so yucky. The weird thing is, the sky is so hazy that you can't see a monsoon until it hits. I've been so thankful for weather alerts on my phone. We had a big flash flood last night and now our back yard has river ripples in the sand.

Oh, those wildfires are so scary! I live in the Netherlands, where we rarely get wildfires. Now, the southern province of Limburg is having problems with flooding due to lots of rainfall. Thankfully, I'm not in that area though.

Good luck on repotting the cactus. Oooh, it sounds so cool, but yes, all those spikes!

oh kim, those wildfires are the worst, so scary for you and your family!! since i recently took up needle punching, i wondered what the difference was between that and hooking??

loving the cacti, your freshly picked produce and the morning glories!!

i love the whale, i would hook that one next!!

While I've been in the mountains I haven't kept track of the fires, because they aren't here in this area. Or if they are, the smoke must be blowing the other direction. I had forgotten to be SUPER grateful that we have no smoke. I'm hoping to come up again later in the summer and I hardly dare hope it will be so clear then, if I can even come.

Writing a blog post is a fairly calm and easy thing to do in the heat, I suppose. You don't have to move your body too much ;-) And I'm glad you could. It's always lovely to see a post from you.
