A New Week

A new week. October is just flying away, I think I know why they say witches fly on brooms, it is to make October fly away too. This is the first time in years and years that we have had a real October. It has been so nice to have chilly mornings, warm afternoons, and blue, blue skies. After a busy weekend, it always feels like I slide in sideways on Monday morning.

The chicken house is almost finished, this weekend Ron got the roof shingled, he even painted it. He got the nest boxes in too. I haven't taken pictures of it yet. It was too dark as I wrote this post. I don't go outside until it is daylight.

I did manage to finish a couple of rugs  Of course, I have not bound the edges. I always post pictures of them not bound. One of these days I will post pictures after I have bound the edges.

I have done this before but I always wanted to do it in brighter colors. So I did. Can you see the kitty foot?
Trying to take pictures with a dog and cat wanting to see everything was hard this morning. I didn't notice it until I uploaded the picture.

This is Cathy Greschners 1820 Sunflower pattern. I did this one again with brighter wool and a black back ground.
I love this pattern, but I had such a hard time with this one this time. When I was drawing out patterns, I used my red dot tracer, but I must have turned it so when I drew out the pattern on burlap, I had a mirror image. I didn't catch it and I couldn't tell why my 1820 looked weird, so I wrote over it and hooked it then it was 2081 then I caught my mistake. I turned it over redrew the pattern on the back side. Then I hooked the numbers again and my 1820 was so large because I over hooked it I guess. I took it out again and rehooked that date again. It still doesn't look right to me. I have laughed and laughed at myself over this one. I am excited I finished it. So now it stays this way.  I am forcing myself to venture out and try new things. To try and be bolder with my hooking.

I did this little design from Jenny Hoffman. I thought I could do it in one day. It took me almost a month. One thing I have noticed about myself, is I loose my ability to do counted cross stitch very fast. My hands get so clumsy if I haven't done it in awhile so I have to start all over and I make myself do it so I won't loose my ability completely. It is like my fingers forget.

This is my current project. I have had this pattern for 15 years at least. When I used to dream about rug hooking when the kids were young, I wanted this rug so bad. Now that I am finally getting to hook it, it is a bit like a dream come true. I keep telling the girls that I know how hard it is when you have a list of all of the things they want to get done but being a mommy, is more important. Because someday, the girls will be old like me now and then they will have time to do all that they dreamed about. Then like me now, I look back and wonder why it seemed so important then and all the ways I wish now I hadn't longed for the days I have now. Babies do grow up too fast.

From Pineberry Lane, this is Fancey Blackett---Shoo! I really do enjoy every single patten I have done from Pineberry Lane but this one really makes me smile. This one is done on 35 count linen but not by me. I got out my linen and started to do this one and I cannot see well enough for linen so I have to go back to this. I really hope I don't have to go back to 14 ct Aida. :)

Anyway, lots of projects this week. Washing windows made it to the top of the list. We have had so many dust storms lately, I need to wash windows so hopefully if we get rain, I will be able to see out.

Have a lovely week,

~Kim~

These are all beautiful projects! I love the 1820 one from Cathy... keep meaning to hook it myself... and the Fancy Blackett is another goodie... i see we share the same habit of thinking projects will take a fraction of the time they actually do! lol!

You are busy, woman! I do like to have something to work on when sitting in front of the television. So, I have knitting or stitching usually waiting on my side table. You are doing better and better all the time with your hooking...YAY!!! xo

All your wonderful projects make me smile ! Funny, I thought when I got older I would have more time to do things. But I don't think that is the case. In some ways I have less time. Hmmm, wonder how that happened. ;)

When my gr-kids ask me, "Where did the year go?" (ages 7 and 9), I know that time is truly flying.

October is moving along at a rapid pace. Christmas will be here before we know it.
All of your projects look so nice.

You know how to keep busy, Kim. Those are some good-looking projects you have completed, plus the ones you are working on completing. I'd say it brings a good feeling of accomplishment when you finish one.

Look at all those projects! Does the cool weather make you want to sit with a nice warm rug in your lap? :-)

Busy girl! Love the projects. The 1820 story is funny. I would do that ;). That new (old) pattern is great. I've never seen it before. I can't believe October is half gone already.

You keep so busy with your handiwork, Kim. It must be very calming and gratifying!
I think my favorite this time is your pumpkin Halloween rug.
I wish you hadn't mentioned window, because now I'm reminded of how dirty mine are!

Good evening Kim, I cannot believe how quickly this month is going, I ventured into Walmart and Kohls the other day and both were decked out for Christmas. I am so not ready...I love your projects, the only projects I seem to accomplish is showing Travis how to color and fingerpaint!!! Blessings...

Oh I'm so glad you're getting so many projects done. I hope your wrist isn't bugging you too much. I really like that crow. It's just been the best October so far hasn't it? :)

See you are busy as usual! Glad the Bumblewood debut went well! Impressed with her creativity and entrepreneurship! She is brave! Glad you are enjoying your Oct...we are having a nice one, too!

Kim, you and I are busy ladies but I wish I had time for needlework of some kind. Lately I seem to work from morning till I go to bed at night.

All your projects are beautiful. You must have quite a collection by now.

I can't believe how fast October is moving along. It's the 14th and I had to do the Payroll deductions and pay some bills online this evening so I'm lagging behind with my comments and I'm so sleepy.
Have a great week.
Hugs,
JB

I agree with you about cross stitch - it's easy to get rusty!
Your rugs are perfection! I love them!

You've been productive!! Good for you!

October is really flying by ... doesn't seem possible that the month is already over half done.

One of the reasons I gave up counted cross stitch is that I could no longer do linens. Even 18-count evenweave fabrics were getting difficult to see. :-( But I rediscovered my love of quilting, so it's all good.
