Chats on the Farmhouse Porch

It is time again to stop by and visit with Patrice. I hope you are all having a nice week.

Questions:

1.    What's the last thing that made you cry?

I have been on a Smallville binge, and Clark's Dad was in the hospital in a coma, Clark's Mom gave one of the most moving scenes I have ever seen and how she loved her husband and how they first met, as I was watching I was thinking of my own marriage and how much I love that man who has given me the world and how lost I would be without him. I knew what she was feeling and it really got to me.

 2.   Have you ever had any small pets, other than cats or dogs?

Yes, I had a raccoon, named Misty. When I got her I had to feed her formula and give her a bottle. She had her own sounds she made when she called me and she was always petting my face. She went every where I did and even rode on my back when I went swimming. She was like a little person.

3.    Waffles or pancakes?
Neither, I just have never been a fan.

4.    Do you like politics? We don't need to know who you want to vote for if you are in the US, facing the upcoming election- just asking if you find the whole thing interesting.

I used to be so crazy about politics and loved to discuss it and think about it and read about it. The fun has gone out of it and now I spend most days praying for the country that I feel  I have lost.

5.    Please fill in the blanks: If only I could____________then___________.

I don't say if only anymore. I say, if I want to bad enough and if I want to work hard enough, I can do it. I think it is more like now, It is God in me that gives me strength and if He gives me a challenge He will equip me to meet those challenges. The only way to get any thing  accomplished it to meet life head on and keep reaching and never, never giving up.

Thank you to Patrice for this week's questions.

Tuesday Twaddle

It is hard to write about fall when it is 94 degrees today and triple digits expected for the weekend. I am trying though to think cool thoughts. The mornings are nice.

I worked on a sheep rug this weekend just because it is fast and I like it on top of my stove. This is the second time I have made this pattern. It is from Buttermilk Basin.

It is fast and it is fun and putting it here just makes me happy. I am finding that with school this year, my sewing time is really limited. I am working on the last September Word play and having a hard time with it.

I dug out my Halloween rug today. Gosh I love that rug. I think I need to do it again.

I took a picture of the stove that I am looking forward to using someday. Do you notice the boomerang? For some reason that is where it lives in the house. I guess for a place to grab on the way out of the door.
At least they don't keep the 3 man slingshot here.

I was outside taking care of the chickens and I took my I  Pod.  Do you ever think that sometimes there are fairy's or brownies or sprites that wait until I go to bed and then like today mess with my I Pod? I put on a play all songs selection. I have Beatles on there, I hate the Beatles I was walking around listening to Lucy in The Sky with Diamonds. Nice words though. I liked all of the words and I wished I could draw, I would love to draw all of those words and all of those colors.
I know my kids are always giving me music but they know how I feel about the Beatles. I know it feels almost like I am saying bad words saying that but I was never a fan. I liked Bread. My kids put the Rolling Stones on one day when we were driving. I wanted to get out and walk. I can't understand why they like that old music. They like Queen for goodness sake. I just want to cry.
I was really wanting to listen to The Ashokan Farewell. What a great piece of music.

Well,  I am burning dinner in the oven so I better get off the computer. I hope your Wednesday is wonderful.

Anyway, I told you this was twaddle at the beginning.

Reflections on Cleaning House

I was cleaning house today, as I was mopping I was thinking about this chore. Here are some things I thought about today.

1. No matter how much I spend on a mop, I must be like Bam-Bam or something because I break the handle.

2. No matter how good the mop is, I must still get on my hands and knees and mop the base boards and all the places the mop can't reach.

3. Putting on glasses when I am cleaning house is scary. Being blind is bliss.

4. When we built this house I had six kids at home who helped. Now I am the only one here full time. Guess who cleans house now...by them self...everyday.

5. When I lived in my tiny house two houses ago, it took me 4 hours to clean the whole house once a week. Now this one is never as clean as I would like it.

6. There are  six cats, one dog, that live in the house with the people. That is six cats too many. I do not own a cat. My cats belong to the kids and some of those kids are adults  married with children. I also do not own a dog. The dog is my son's. But try telling all of the animals they are not mine. I need to burn the Dr. Doolittle hat.

7. I really, really need to buy a new vacuum cleaner. I wonder what would happen if I dropped the vacuum cleaner and the mop off the roof?

8. I was thinking of what would happen if I hired a house keeper? I would work harder than ever because I wouldn't want someone to come in and see this dirty house.

9. I am not Lizzie. I sweat and I get dirty and mop water runs down my legs into my shoes.

10. Why did I want a house with 4 bathrooms? Why did I want a house with all of this tile. Why on earth did I want white grout. Well, it's clean now, but mopping gives me all kinds of thoughts, next time I need to wear a head band to keep the sweat out of my eyes. Who needs a gym membership.

Just what I was thinking about when I was mopping and trying not to get mad at the mop handle.
I hope you are having a nice Monday,

~Kim~

Sunday Morning Visit

I always enjoy Sundays, the slower pace, the quiet of the house. All of it is very nice. This morning my mind is a jumble of thoughts. My mind can't seem to settle down to one topic. When that happens I go back to my old blog posts and see what I was thinking about on this date. I found a nice post to share and then I found a video that I posted. I thought I would share these today. My son did this video for a year, the backgrounds change as does his hair and the kids that are around him. In one of the shots is one of my grand sons, he must have been about three.
Have a lovely Sunday,

I keep hoping the weather will cool off enough to turn these pumpkins into pies. I haven't got to the point of wanting pumpkin pie so bad I will eat it under a fan, but I am getting close.

I read a couple of things that have stuck with me this week and I have thought about them whenever I am just being quiet. Or, yesterday wanting to go shopping for antiques, this came to me, or while I was looking through a clothes catalog with really cool boots.
"When the mind thinks nothing,
When the soul covets nothing,
and the body acteth nothing that
is contrary to the will of God,
this is perfect sanctification."
Anonymous, (in an old Bible, 1599)

This is from Elisabeth Elliot
God shields us from most things we fear,
But when He chooses not to shield us, He unfailingly allots
grace in the measure needed.
It is for us to choose to receive or refuse it. Our joy or
our misery will depend on that choice.
(Secure in the Everlasting Arms.)

Just my random thoughts for a beautiful Sunday morning,
