Chats on the Farmhouse Porch

It is time again to have a chat with Patrice. Patrice blogs from her place called Everyday Rurality. Stop by if you have a chance.

Now for this weeks questions:

1.    Do you ever go on picnics? When was the last one? Do you go somewhere with benches and tables, or do you take your own blanket?

I love picnics! I haven't went on any in a while though. When the kids were small I was always taking them somewhere for a picnic. My favorite kind is blanket on the grass kind of picnic. My grandson asked last week for a picnic so he could eat his lunch. I might have to do this tomorrow.

2.    What's your favorite tropical fruit?

I would have to say pineapple I guess.

3.    Wendell would like me to ask you if you've ever ridden a horse? Any pony rides as a child?

Yes, I spent the greater part of my growing up years on the back of a horse. During the summer I spent more time riding than anything else. Nope, no pony rides, my Dad thought they were dangerous so he always made me ride a big horse.

4.    Describe the purse you are currently carrying. If you don't use a purse, what color is your wallet?

I carry my chicken purse that I got for Christmas.

5.    Please tell me the last funny thing that you just recently remembered. This can be something funny that happened to you in the past, or just something funny that you remember.

We were just laughing the other day about this. One of the downsides to homeschooling is your children really never know what grade they are in so when a person asks they look at mom and ask, " Mom what grade am I in?" The person asking the question would look bewildered and you could see the look that said, " Weird Kid."

My son who was always interested is seeing how things worked was watching a repairman working on the garage door. He was about 12 at the time and at some point in the conversation, the man asked him what grade he was in, me not being around to ask, my son just answered, " Oh, I am not too concerned about what grade I am in, it really isn't that important."  I guess the man was really dumfounded and when I finally came outside to pay the man, he asked me. I told him what grade he was in and that my son was being home schooled.  You could tell though, he thought this was the weirdest house he had ever been to with all of these kids and not even knowing what grade they were in.

Later when I had all of the kids together we sat and drilled about what grade they were in and what year in school. I still sit and laugh about that.

Thanks for stopping by today. I hope you are having a wonderful week.

Hi, I love hearing the homeschool stories; I have a joke I've probably shared here but it may give you a laugh. What do they call a homeschool mom who talks to herself? A Parent-Teacher conference.
Thanks for sharing today.

I only like blanket picnics on the beach. Too many bugs and I'm a big wimp.

I like picnics, too. I don't really like the clean up though!
I'm going home in an hour or two. I think I'll sleep all day tomorrow!
I always love your porch answers!

I love that you were such a brave pioneer at homeschooling. What a tough time it was for you to deal with the closed minds and doubts of everyone. I applaud you for bravely pursuing God's will. I am excited about the amazing adults your kids are. I am wanting a fun chat with you soon. Good God stuff going on. Love you.

A chicken purse? How cute!

I'll bet it's been 40 years since I've been on a picnic.

I hope you'll link this up soon. I had a good laugh at the "grade" story. We have that problem with one of the girls. Everyone else is clearly in one grade level. They have just kept track since Kindergarten and changed the grade number when we get new curriculum each year. The one girl has a mixture of grade work and can't answer that question. People really don't know what to do when kids can't answer. I usually just answer for her.

I wish I could bring a picnic basket and show up at your doorstep. "Hey, come on Kim. Let's go on a picnic." That would be such fun! We could get whatever kids were around together.Homeschool kids just seem to hit it off right away. Oh, well- we live too far away. :(

I like the chicken purse. It's really cute. What is it made of? Is that fabric or leather? How clever!

I like pineapple too. They say that it has some very good digestive enzymes in it.

I hope you have a good week.
Great big hug:)

I love picnics...we even picnic in the den, yes blanket always. Yesterday our daughter came over with twins she was keeping, they are 19 months and we picnic on the blanket in the backyard.

Oh grades...too funny, that conversation was around here also, and also they never knew what to tell people when they asked what curriculum we were using..I didn't use the ones people knew Abeka etc. Oh home school kids...now mine laughingly blame any short comings on that they were home schooled.

Love your purse...

Hi Kim, I'm still alive but still busy.
I used to go on picnics with the kids down the field by the river when they were young and we always ate our meal on a blanket on the ground. It was always a fun thing to do. Sometimes we went to the park in town and had a picnic in the shade.

Your purse is real cool even in 100 ยบ f. temperature. You are so cool too.

Mangos are my favourite tropical fruits. JB

While that is funny about the grade thing, it is a perfect reminder of how quickly people are to judge and make assumptions about others. Pet peeve of mine. Pineapple?! ME TOO! Interesting about the ponies. Is that because they are young and unpredictable? Just curious.
