Just Thinking

How has your week been? Has it been as hectic as mine? I hope not. In my last post, I told you I was going to have a dye wool day. I did, and if you want I will show you my lovely wool.

I call them my Sunflower group.

Here is the story that goes with what I thought was going to be a quiet day. I had my first batch on the stove. I had the rest of the days wool soaking in the sink, and I was mixing a new batch of color. I heard the sound of a fire truck stopping in front. Earlier I had noticed that PG&E had heavy equipment out front but they have been out front so much it didn't register very much until I heard the fire truck.

I thought I maybe should at least walk outside and see what is going on. There were fire trucks in front of the house, a fire marshal across the street, so many men in service trucks, they were blocking off the street with barriers. There was a ladder truck at the end of the street and a fireman going house to house. He told me that there was a gas leak and that I might have to evacuate, but for now I needed to be prepared. I sound all calm writing this out, but I wasn't. There were men everywhere, I had men in my yard and men in my house making sure everything was safe. In and out. I just kept dying wool though as it kept me busy. I find that don't you if I can keep my hands busy, my whole body stays calm.

Peter texted me to tell me that we had made the 11:00 A.M. news cast. I thought about it later. When there weren't fire trucks here anymore. How life is like that, you are just doing your normal things and something happens. I did think a lot about God and how He controls circumstances even when I am not aware. Maybe it is because in November someone hit a gas line just like what happened this week, and that poor family lost their entire house. It could have just as easily been me. The new family who moved in next door this weekend, were evacuated and they didn't get to come home until late at night.

But as Ma would say to Pa in the Little House Books, " Charles, all's well that ends well." I was thinking about Ma today, do you think she was really as calm as Laura made her out to be? I mean my story above sounds calm and peaceful when I read it to myself, and it wasn't like that. I was exhausted yesterday from the adrenaline that kept me going all day the day before.

I often quote this phase from Elisabeth Elliot. " The secret is Christ in me, not me in a different set of circumstances.” I was aware all day of that and in keeping myself calm, in-spite of the circumstances.

Today though, is a new day, perfect beach weather again. A lovely May day. I hope you have a wonderful day and your weather is perfect.
Thank you for stopping by this place, and reading along. You bless my life. Sometimes the what-ifs remind me of the blessings I take for granted.

Twaddle on Tuesday

See that above picture? I want to do a rug from it. I think it would be a cool rug if I could capture it in wool. I have been thinking about it for about a month. I had to go through my pictures to find it. Since it is going to be another warm day, I can open the house and dye wool. I would love to see if I could make these colors. That is what is so much fun about dyeing wool. Matching colors in nature.

I had a nice birthday. I have such a nice family. Dear sweet Emilie, sent flowers to me. One thing that is very handy is having a daughter who is a florist. Here is the lovely arrangement she sent.

Such happy flowers!
My Sister-in-law brought a plant to me. I have no idea what it is or where to plant it. So if any of you have an idea I would really appreciate it.

Last week Ron and I both were under the weather. It doesn't happen too often when we are both under the weather at the same time. It happened though, and well, we both were pretty grumpy and out of sorts. I noticed that in my Netflix cue there was The Minion movie. So we watched it together. We laughed and pretty soon we were not so grumpy and I was reminded that laughter really is the best medicine.
Yesterday, for my birthday he came in with my birthday presents.

I told Ron I liked Bob best because he likes animals and made friends with this rat he found in the sewer. I guess why it made me laugh so much is because when the kids were young and we would have kittens they would carry the kittens around the way Bob carried that rat. I just thought it was so cute. Anyway, I know that my kids wouldn't get the references in that movie so it must be made for grandparents. I think I could watch any of those silly movies every single day.  Ron's favorite is the big yellow guy. I can't remember his name.

Then of course a lovely card that made my day from sweet and dear Pom Pom. So it was a very nice day.

I wanted to show you my chicken rug all finished. I think it turned out kind of cute. At least this one has a straight binding.

I hope you have a lovely Tuesday.

Happy May

Did you know that May is almost as busy as December? Birthdays, graduations and lots of parties.
Its a nice month and hopefully it won't go speeding by like the other months have done this year.

I have a to do list that keeps growing like Kudzu. We took out three trees. I sort of helped.
Dead Tree.

Cute husband.

Cute husband cutting down dead tree.

Dead tree that almost took out the photographer.

Dead tree getting sawed into stumps for my garden benches.
The front yard smelled like a pine forest. I was so glad our sons were home to help. I was taking pictures and one of the trees wanted to get up close and personal. I never even got to yell timber. I always want to yell timber when trees fall and I never remember when the tree is actually falling.

Tomorrow is that dreaded day. My birthday. I have thought for two solid days of something I could do to make it special. I finally decided, that every day feels like my birthday. I like what I do every single day. So it is very hard to come up with something to do that I like better.

I hope you have a lovely May 1st today. It is perfectly warm and beautiful.

A Quick Post

I just thought I would stop in for a quick post. My feverfew is blooming. Isn't it lovely those little white daisies against the green. They make me so happy. They do look pretty this time of year. When I have a headache I do try to work around them and brush against them. Other that that, I think they stink.

I managed to finish two rugs this week. Both are patterns from Cathy at Orange Sink. She is one of my very, very favorite rug designers. When I hook her patterns, I forget what ever problem I may be having and just get caught up in her patterns.

This first rug is called Long May She Wave.

The second rug my very favorite, The 1820 Sunflower.

Both are going to stay home with me I think. Not my original plan. I was going to put them in my Etsy shop, but for some reason I just can't seem to make my rugs square. I can't figure out what on earth I am doing. Sometimes when Sasha runs in that pasture she runs sideways. It has something to do with her brain. I think I am having the same malady. I can't seem to make my rugs square. I measured these too. It has to be the problem with me.

I also wanted to give you a heads up. My dear friend Kim at Millie's Mats has started a new blog  Glass Half Full. She never fails to make me laugh and be entertained. If you are looking for a blog to follow along. I promise you will be glad you started following her in blogland. If not for her, I don't know if I would still be hooking rugs or blogging. She really was and is and  continues to be an inspiration for me.

I did a little painting and sanding today on a table I am going to use here in my office. I hope I can show you it soon. It has been a while since I did any thing like this. Ron let me use this sander he has. I had no idea he had this nifty piece of machinery. I was looking around for something else to sand when I was done. Hopefully now that it is warmer I will be playing in the woodpile again.

Have a delightful weekend,

~Kim~
