Chickens and Stuff

I went out just a bit ago. A storm is coming in and I always like to sit and watch as the wind is blowing and the clouds look like ships at full mast. The front is coming down from Alaska so when that happens the air smells fresh and what I imagine the glaciers must smell like. I grabbed my chair and I had a cup of hot coffee and I sat sipping as I watched the trees sway in the wind.

I have mentioned it before but I have cute mice that live in my chicken coop. They enjoy the cracked corn that I feed my chickens. The mice that live down there look like to circles oO-- with cute, little tiny ears and little legs and tails. My very lazy kitty has decided that my coop is the place to be so she sits and watches. She has caught a couple of mice this week. I am glad I am not a mouse. She never eats them though. Just plays with them.

I decided it was time to go collect eggs, not realizing the cat was playing with a mouse. Sasha ran over, and took the mouse. Sasha is a herding dog by instinct. She doesn't know how to catch mice she tries to herd them like she does my chickens. The mouse, seeing that it has a way of escape bounces over to me. I have mentioned to you before that I hate mice I don't care how cute. It sees my pant leg as a place of safety. I felt bad about it by I kicked that poor little mouse clear across the yard while screaming at the dog and the cat.

I can never figure out why I look like a place of safety. Before I could get away the mouse turned and ran to me again. I just ran to the gate and went out in the pasture. I left the dog and the cat. After I collected the eggs and was going the long way around to get to the back door. Sasha was throwing the mouse up in the air and catching it. You know most the time I treat that dog like a person. I am so disgusted with her she is just a dog right now.
The chickens of course, watched with glee. Sometimes I think I am really tired of animals. Except the chickens do pay their way. They are starting to lay eggs again which makes me so happy. I love fresh eggs so much.

I think they are all so pretty.

I am so glad tomorrow is Friday. I just love Fridays, and one with a storm just makes for a perfect day.

Thanks so much for stopping by,

Just Odds and Ends

We went down yesterday for the final fitting of Emilie's Wedding dress.  She looked so pretty standing
there. That dress is really very pretty. She was designing her shoes last night. Did you know you can do that now? I didn't but I think it is a good idea. So last night Nik and Emilie designed the shoes they are going to wear to the wedding.

Yep you read that right. They are wearing matching Converse. You know those shoes that basket players
used to wear. She has tried on so many beautiful shoes with her wedding dress. She decided that since the wedding is in the front yard and it is grass, it would be better to wear tennis shoes. Nik is wearing Converse and so are the groomsmen so when they found they could design them they did that together. So while it is way different than when I got married, I am so happy they are having fun. I still remember how numb my feet were by the time I left the reception from my wedding so I am all for comfortable shoes.

It amazes me how this time around how much more calm I am. Maybe that it is just one wedding. One at a time is a piece of cake. I am sure there will be times that I am in panic mode but for now it is okay.

That is all I have for today. Just some odds and ends.
We have some lovely storms coming in we need some good storms. We need some more rain.

Have a great Wednesday,
~Kim~

Chats on The Farmhouse Porch

No blooms here yet, but when I went out this morning, the air has changed to spring. The silly pear trees across the road will be getting blooms. I do have an acacia tree out in back that is blooming. It is so hard to be inside the house right now. It is time to visit with Patrice.

 Questions

1.    What is your favorite time of day to read? If you don't enjoy reading, then what is your favorite time to watch TV/movies?
Sometimes in the afternoon I will grab a cup of coffee and sit with a book for a bit. Then it is time to cook dinner and do the evening things. When we watch T.V. it will be in the evening about 7:00ish to 8:30 I don't like to watch more than that.

2.    Did you watch the Super Bowl? If so, what was your favorite commercial? If you didn't watch it, what did you do Sunday night?

Nope, didn't even turn it on. I think I sewed and hubby played his guitar and then we watched Downton Abbey.

 3.   Have you been watching Downton Abbey?Who's your favorite character? If not, have you seen any interesting TV or movies series lately?

I have been watching Downton Abbey. We bought season 3 from Itunes so they sent us the complete season. We finished it up last night. I am pretty sure, I will not be watching any more Downton Abbey. I was a wreck for two days about Sybil. I don't think I like the emotional toll it has taken on me. I love all of the characters. I don't know if I have a favorite.

4.    Do you enjoy home parties for selling items? (like Pampered Chef, Southern Living, Mary Kay)
I never have. I tried to stay away from them.

5.    Please finish this sentence. If I work very hard, I can__________________.

I can get so much more accomplished.

Thanks to Patrice for this week's questions. Thank you for stopping by today.

Oh February

Guess what woke me up this morning? Birds. Happily singing in the naked trees in my back yard. They were singing the songs of spring. Guess what was singing in the front yard? Meadow Larks. Guess what the air smells like this morning? Spring. Then I noticed that the silly ground hog said it was going to be an early spring.

February is such a fickle month. We might even hit 70 degrees today. It is trying to lure me into to thinking that I could dream of gardens, and seeds and dream of flowers growing in the pasture. I won't fall for it this year. Nope, I have learned. As soon as my guard is down, boom, cold, icy weather, wind blowing, sideways rain, not the mention the bane of my life, tumbleweeds.

This was last February. There are more tumbleweeds out across the field just waiting for the chance to blow over here.

These things were huge, I know they don't look that big but some of them were as big as cars. It took me so long to drag them away.

We have these winds called Santa Ana winds. It is winds that blow from the east. In Bleak House Mr. Jarndice will say when something is bad that the wind is blowing from the east. Well around here when the winds blow from the east this is what we get.

So I won't fall for it this year. I will ignore the birds singing, the wonderful feel of the sunshine on my face, the lure of the soft soil that keeps calling my name.

I hope you have a lovely day,
~Kim~
