Loving April

Happy Monday!

I just love how green everything is right now. I have been such a sporadic blogger. At the beginning of April, Ben and Megan came and stayed with us. I knew that they would be on the road and that I would be grand childrenless in California. So I kept busy with them. I baked cookies and just had a nice time with them until they hit the road again. They are out of California now. Making their way to the rest of the county. The vlog is here

Ron and I have been busy. We got the flowerbeds all cleaned and prettied up. They were terrible. We have been making mulch out of our yard trimmings and chicken manure and we had the nicest stuff to put in our flowerbeds. We have two more other mulch mountains in the pasture and its lovely stuff. It smells like a forest floor. We decided to move all of his Bonsai trees to the flowerbeds. That way they will be a little more protected. Some of the Japanese Maples, love sun, but its the hot wind that gets to them, so hopefully they will be more protected this year. So that is why we keep things in pots to move. So he can cut them down to look miniature.

Here is the back yard. I have all of the porches cleaned and ready to be the outside family rooms now. I do love these porches.

I just love how it looks from each of the porches. Each place has its own feel to it. I guess that is why on the original house plans each place had a name. This is the entry porch.

This is pretty too, but we rarely sit here. Except when there is a wedding. Then everyone sits here. Isn't that funny?

Of course, my favorite, The Quiet Porch. I just cleaned it yesterday and I am going to fix it up as soon as something comes to me. It really is quiet and because its off of the office, where I am right now, the door is open and I listen to the sound of the wind chimes and the sound of the meadowlarks out in the pasture.

My tree roses are out here too and the butterfly bush. I love to sit here quietly and and watch all of the moths, butterflies and hummingbirds come and take drinks of nectar and never notice me sitting quietly. My Hydrangeas are starting to get flowers. Just little things yet, but it is spring.

Speaking of spring. This was the garden area in my back yard. These weeds just went crazy this year. Lots of lovely nettles. Best tea if you need iron. Did I dry it? No, I felt really wasteful too, when I was chopping weeds. I do enjoy chopping weeds by the way, its a good thing because we have them in abundance. I meant to show you a before and after, but because we have been busy with the flowerbeds, we still don't have it planted yet.

Before
After as of today, soon to be planted.
Ron took the tractor and broke it up and here it sits. Today is a clean house day or I would be out here getting it all leveled and raked. I do love this time of year and all of the fun things to do. My other projects are so different. I have too many going on, but I don't want to overwhelm you with all of my projects. I will be sharing them all.

I hope you have a lovely Monday.
I hope your day is filled with wonderful things. Hopefully spring is showing up for you.

Dreaming of April
Praying for her to arrive in all her finery
I'm dreaming of April
Maybe she'll linger this time
Turning to smile at me
These clouds of grey march in endless procession
I'm waking every day
Dreaming of April.

We are having a wonderful spring though it has rained yesterday and today so I am cleaning and exercising. I am with you on weeding- it is so gratifying! We cut down some trees/ brush last week to expose 4 or 5 little dogwoods at the edge of the woods at the back of our property. It looked so much better! I was so happy. My husband said we can't always be just cutting trees down. He doesn't get it but he is wonderful to assist me with my "vision." Haha. We have 3 1/2 porches, the front porch is my favorite. The birds are everywhere. I like to eat lunch on the back porch (it is shaded then). Cleaning porches is hard work! Happy spring to you!

They're painting our building today. Funny, it's not the huge ordeal it was at the other place. They don't even cover the windows. We brought in our patio furniture, but it hasn't been too bad, otherwise. It's made for an interesting day!

Your porches are wonderful and so beautiful with all the lovely furniture. It looks very regal. Your gardens are looking so nice and tidy. You're lucky that Ron helps you with the gardening.

Today has been an absolutely perfect spring day and it was warm enough to work outdoors in short sleeves. I've been sweeping my large driveway because George put so much sand this winter because of icy conditions. I picked up 4 full wheelbarrow of sand. I still have to pick up the sand in the carport but it will have to wait till tomorrow. Part of my leaf blower has disappeared so I had to sweep.

Enjoy April. It's almost over...
Hugs, Julia

I hope when I come to visit it will be porch-sitting weather! But even if it is 115 we could sit on one of them for a minute? :-)

What lovely porches you have. I have one and we only sit out there in early spring or at night when the bugs are not so terrible. In summer, it is not so pleasant.

Your yard looks so pretty. Ours is just coming to life and still is brown with bits of green peeking through.

Happy April (almost gone!).

Everything looks great, Kim the worker bee! Maybe I should get my behind outside and plant a seed or two!
