Today at my house, it was just cold enough to have to wear a coat yet not so cold to take my breath away. The weather man says we have storms lined up past Hawaii. Do you know how happy that makes me? It makes it feel like Christmas. This morning, I was standing and watching the sunrise, while Ron was getting ready to go to work and I said, " I am so glad I am alive today!" He asked, " Why today?" I said because the sky has clouds, there are still colors on the trees and all of the shopping is done and all I have to do is bake and play in the kitchen.
Before I can bake though, I must have a clean house. Today I cleaned and straightened and went on walks out in the pasture and looked at the gold falling from the trees. The ground is packed but still damp from the rain and the fog. Its lovely and the air is crisp like a tangy apple. I find myself counting my blessings one by one. Both boys are out of school now for winter break and we all had dinner together tonight. It was so nice to have them home at night. They both work during the day and go to school at night.
This morning when I went out back to take care of my hens, one of the trees had this lovely carpet underneath it. Yesterday when I had gone out back to water my chickens before sundown that tree was filled with leaves. So I stood there looking and all of the leaves must have fallen during the night. There were a few leaves that hadn't fallen but most were here. I wish I could have seen them falling.
I have all of the shopping finished and wrapped. I am never this far ahead. I don't know how it happened.
Its a nice feeling. The weatherman also said there is another polar vortex coming. I promise I will be sending you warm thoughts from here, because no matter how cold I think it might be here it is nothing like some of you on the east coast have to put up with when it hits.
I just wanted to stop in and say hello. I really hope all of you are doing well. I wish you a lovely week.
Thank you for stopping by and visiting. I know you are busy too.

I love reading your blog. Your 'eyes wide open' view of this world inspires me. xo
Your orange tree looks healthy! It's wonderful to hear how On Top of Things you are - I'm working on that myself ;-)
Thank God for the rain coming. I scurried around this afternoon getting things ready. I hope we have three days of downpour...what do you think?
Hope you had a perfect day in the kitchen !
This is serious cookie baking time ;)

Wow! Good girl!
I'm so glad the weather is making you extra joyful!
I've had the flu - argh! Getting better!
Your sunrise picture is breathtaking!
Happy to hear you are ready for Christmas. I am close and it does feel good! I actually had time to hook yesterday. Good thing because it's a gift that must be ready to ship on Monday
Merry, merry

Good girl to be ready for Christmas, I'm still so behind my shopping but the house is clean. My daughter Christine gave me the gift of A cleaning service. They are doing such a great job from top to bottom. Now I can decorate.
I have to shake my head at you loving storms. Here storms means lots of snow and we got lots of it. Not so much fun at my age anymore. It's very cold her this morning. -6C° or -2°F
Enjoy your storms.
Hugs,
Julia
Everything about this post made me smile! Your upbeat and joyous way of looking at life is inspiring! I wish I lived close enough to keep you company while you baked. I don't do much baking anymore, because I do too much eating then, but I DO enjoy the whole process and miss the Christmas's where I'd spend at least 2 or sometimes more days in the kitchen stocking up on goodies and treats. Enjoy it for me! Hope we get some of those storms too....
It has been lovely to spend these few moments with you, Kim and see the sunrise at your home!
Your photos look like they were taken in early October - not December. We are now blanketing in white and in the middle of a deep freeze. Scarf, wool hat, mittens, parka - the whole deal
I'd love to be in your kitchen with you, sampling some of your creations! :) Yeah...the polar vortex (oh how I dislike that term!)is headed our way. I'll just think of sunny California, and those juicy oranges hanging on your tree. You are so lucky to have them! :)
I wish we were having cold weather. It's in the mid-60s. It will get progressively colder as the week goes on but the rain will go away. We can't seem to get the precipitation and cold to coordinate their arrivals. LOL I did a lot of the house cleaning today, too. Baby M stayed with her daddy today so I took advantage and got busy. I'd love to visit your kitchen and do some sampling and chat away an afternoon. :)
JOY-ful YOU! So happy you have a homemakery kind of day. Beautiful oranges! The Polar cold is here on the plains. Just 13* today and colder cold is on the way.
awww you sound so happy kim, at peace!! you have prepared well for this holiday and you are able to really enjoy it!! many thanks for sharing your joy - and the sunrise!!
i'm sure your joy filled spirit made ron happy!!!
Love those pictures, and those oranges on the tree are simply wonderful! I have oranges too... only mine are in a box... ~LOL!
Yay! Glad everything is going so well, and I'm always happy to read your attitude of gratitude.
Have a very happy rest of you week, puttering in the home and kitchen.
Merry Christmas!!
~K.
