Happy Labor Day

Last Year Pumpkins

I wish I could say, I went to a lake or the beach for Labor Day and had nice time. Nope. We have the tomatoes out now, though I plan on planting sweet peas. After I order them. Here in California you plant sweet peas in September. They bloom in April and May. It gets too hot after that. It might be a nice time to plant a winter garden too. I don't know about that. Winter gardens really do grow best here. I have had some of the best broccoli, cauliflower, snow peas, and cabbage. Not to mention is is nice to go out to the garden in the winter and get food for soup. I do like that little garden area in the back yard.

Peppers

Peppers

Ron's peppers are still growing like crazy so we kept those. I think we can keep them until the first frost, which might not be until December.

Future Sweet Peas
That was where the tomatoes were. I thought the little stakes would work for sweet peas.

I finished this rug this weekend. This is the third time I have made it. It is from a book I bought called Whimsicals. When I had no idea how to hook but I wanted to do this rug. Now after the third time, I think I am over it. My rug, Waiting for the Master sold this weekend. But I did manage to get two whole rugs done and I am pretty happy about that.

I dyed wool three times last week. I have wool to start these next couple of rugs. I thought I would show you my new dog rug.

I haven't named it yet. I loved his face too. The other rug I am going to start today, is one I will keep. It is that big rug I bought from Spruce Ridge two years ago. The original design is from Notforgotten Farms.

I want this one finished and hanging on my wall by Thanksgiving. I thought I would work on it at the same time as my dog rug.

We are going to have a bit of a warm up, this week. The cool weather has been so nice. It is very nice today though.
I hope you enjoy your day.

“The years stretched before her, a long and dusty way, yet if she could walk humbly along it she might find that life, unfolding slowly, keeps its best secrets till the end.”
― Elizabeth Goudge, The White Witch
On Elisabeth Goudge:
" I have long said that reading this author is like sipping a mellow wine as opposed to gulping a soda. One must take her words in slowly, roll them around on the tongue so as to taste their essence - as if tasting both the soil and the barrel in which it were aged. One must lay aside all notions of the modern frivolity of entertainment and enter into the characters and find the truth of oneself, for it is always there, waiting to be revealed and loved or revealed and loosed from the soul ...so as to save it."

"May she nestle in your heart and her words sing in harmony with its rhythm."

  1. Oh my... At the rate you're hooking those rugs iI think that you'll have to start raising sheep to keep you in wool... lol...

It's wonderful that you can hook them so quickly.
I managed to marry some wool yesterday. I had put some wool to soak and I was so busy all day that I totally forgot all about it. It was in the soaking for almost two days. I haven't had much chance to hook last.

My husband and I are still picking cucumbers in the field and weeding at the same time. My back is breaking and we still have two long rows to do. It's supposed to shower tomorrow and we need to get that done today. It's hot but we have a nice breeze.

Love that dog rug. It will be a breeze to hook and I also love that Give Ye Thanks one.
Good luck with the winter garden. We can't garden in the snow here. hehe Happy Labor Day.
    Hugs

  5. That's true about Elizabeth Goudge.
A winter garden? THAT is amazing! I would love a winter garden! Although, I was thinking that it's kind of nice when there is absolutely NO work to be done outside during the winter. Shoveling the snow is not my favorite, though!
Your rugs are gorgeous! I love the new designs. You're getting to be a complete professional, Kim!
Off to the the BBQ we go. I made potato salad. Now it's blowing and might rain. Oh well!

  7. Congrats on your rug sale and you finished two rugs??? WOW.
I thought starting/finishing Give Ye Thanks by Thanksgiving would be tough, but at the rate you're going, you'll have it done by Halloween.
    Hugs :)

  8. wow to think of planting a winter garden now is just a dream. We are at the end of our growing season. I love your rug and to hook it 3 times is amazing. I have never read that author but will look for her at work tomorrow. I am starting a new book and right this minute I can't remember the author but she wrote practical magic.
thanks for the visit yes it is unusual for us to be so hot this time of year for so long. usually a day here or there not what we are getting but thankfully the nights get cool.

Love the new rugs that you are beginning... esp. that Thanksgiving rug, it will be such a nice rug to hang on your wall for Thanksgiving.

I think a winter garden sounds great! I'll be shoveling snow, and thinking of you getting to work in the garden :)
