I cleaned flowerbeds yesterday. My son used the weed eater for 4 hours so now it is all clean around the trees in the pasture. My husband was talking about painting the railings. It was so warm I am thinking it might be nice to be outside painting. I know I said this post is about chickens and it is. I only have time right now to watch them for little bits of time.
They all look so pretty and fluffy now. I am getting about , on the average 10 eggs a day.
I just love fluffy little chicken bottoms. I like my roosters but I think they will only be around for a season. The roosters are just so noisy. Sometimes they will crow it seems like 100 times in a row. If they see me or hear me. They just crow and crow.
After the rain last week, the pasture turned green. We walked out and there in this place was volunteer sunflowers. Lots and lots of sunflowers. My husband wanted to keep them and I didn't. I just think it would end up being just a helter skelter mess. I hope he disks it under soon.
This part got all weed whacked yesterday so now it looks all nice and clean. These two hens were so proud of themselves. They came outside the fence while I was getting feed and water. I have to watch them now that there is a red fox that watches every thing I do. He isn't afraid of me. It is always unnerving to feel eyes on me and look and there he is watching. He is prettier than most at this time of year so he is getting fed regularly I think. He has tried to dig into my coop though.
This is the view outside my bedroom door. It is one of my favorites when I have the chickens out. I love how green the grass is growing day by day. The trees blooming and getting leaves. Thank you for stopping by today. It is going to be another very warm day. It feels like May instead of March.

Your post made me feel good just to read about all your spring happenings and as always I love seeing the chickens...I hope that fox disappears to another location. I can't stand to think of him getting your beautiful chickens.....
I LOVE that view from your bedroom! Oh yes, spring has sprung in your neck of the woods. Look at that green grass and the trees in bloom. I've noticed some buds on our trees, so hopefully we'll have signs of spring before too much longer. We planted a cherry tree last fall, so I'll be seeing blooming trees soon (we already have a pear and a dogwood).
I just love seeing your chickens ... hopefully that fox will keep away. It was freak me out, I think, to see him watching me when I was outside.
I hope it doesn't feel like July in May! Honestly, your pictures were so springlike and refreshing. We have several farmers around us who have planted whole fields to sunflowers... one of 40 acres.

Maybe you could just chop down all but one line of sunflowers. I imagine you've had some cross-pollination and you might have new colors coming up. :-)
I'm with you on letting the sunflowers grow! :) Your grass is so green already! It must be so nice outside there...it's typical March weather here this week...very blustery and chilly, but there's a touch of warmth to the air.

Wouldn't the chicken love to eat those tender little sunflower sprouts? They probably would have to be watched closely. Maybe you can serve it to them in a dish, lol.

Oh how cool that you have that many sunflowers! You should let it grow. :) But then I guess you'll need the back for parking? All your girls are so pretty right now. I like the fuzzy little bottoms too. :)

You know, I have never eaten a fresh egg. I doubt grocery store eggs are the same. I can't believe you are hacking up all those volunteer sunflowers. I might cry

Pretty chickens. It really is getting green around your place. We had a warm 70* day here which is really way too warm for us right now. Hoping for rain/snow this weekend.

Your area really does look like spring has taken a hold, ours not so much, but the daffodils are blooming so there are signs. Love the chickens it must be nice having fresh eggs, enjoy!
You are so far ahead of me, with your spring chores, not to mention all that pretty spring growth, however we will be planting our peas and potatoes this weekend.And like you I like the fluffy tails on my hens, ( I guess only a chicken farm girl would understand this) lol My love of chickens came from my grandmother, she always had chickens and I enjoyed helping her look after them. I just wish mine would start back to laying. I don't know if the coyotes and fox are still keeping them frightened!

You're a lucky duck, 10 eggs a day! I bet your yolks are bright orange. The yard is looking like spring is a lot closer to you than me. They are predicting snow for us on Tuesday. Have a great weekend.
