Just Thinking

How are you today? Are you enjoying August? I realized why I don't look at the weather page in August because how many ways can you say hot and boring? We are at 45 days over 100 now. The record I found the other day was something like 1909 had 57 days over 100. They had no air conditioning! Here I complain.

The sun has already changed so much. In the morning it smells like school is getting ready to start. The leaves are beginning to fall from the trees. Slowly, but this has been such a hot summer, it seems earlier than in the past.
Grandma camp was a success. I didn't get a lot of walking steps as I was in the swimming pool. I have a nice suntan. They went home brown. They swim like little fish. They were even doing cannon balls off the diving board!

Yesterday all day long, there was a mockingbird outside my window. Scolding and scolding. My lazy cat was just asleep under the tree. I went out I don't know how many times looking around for a baby bird on the ground. Linx had such a smile on her face I expected to see bird feathers sticking out of her mouth. The mockingbird would get right up in her face and scold. It went on all day. Last night as it was getting dark, I thought I would walk around to the other side of the fence.

I found the tiny little baby bird.  I didn't take very many pictures as I didn't expect it to make it through the night. This morning the mockingbird is still scolding and to me calling attention to the fact there is a baby bird on the ground. Hopefully, it will be flying soon. You have to admire the frantic parents protecting their baby like that.

I hope you have a lovely day.  Thank you so much for stopping by.

~Kim~

"And hate the bright stillness of the noon
without wind, without motion.
the only other living thing
a hawk, hungry for prey, suspended
in the blinding, sunlit blue.

And yet how gentle it seems to someone
raised in a landscape short of rain—
the skyline of a hill broken by no more
trees than one can count, the grass,
the empty sky, the wish for water."

Hi Kim, actually I'm enjoying August. Although it has been a hot dry month, we have managed getting a lot of hay cut and although we had to water the garden and flowers, they all survived. It's getting cooler in the morning and evening which is unusual for us. Normally it cools off in September. When it gets too hot, I remember how cold it is in February. Brrrr.

I don't think I could get used of having such hot temperature for such an extended period. I don't know how you can tolerate it. You are a tough cookie, the pool must be so inviting and the water so nice to swim in.

Your pretty flowers don't seem to mind the heat. That poor little baby bird on the ground, no wonder the mother is noisy. I hope he can learn to fly soon.

Stay cool inside. Hugs,
Julia

I know my comment is always too long but I just wanted to comment on your Grandma camp. I'm so glad it went well and I bet they will remember this for the rest of their lives.

I feel for you, Kim. That many days over 100 is oppressive. The quote by Dana Gioia was very descriptive of a drought stricken land.

That sweet baby mockingbird makes me smile. I've not seen one. Thanks for sharing. Stay cool.

Such oppressive temperatures, for such a long time...I don't know how you manage Kim!

We are having unusually cool temperatures for August!

Beautiful images of the morning glories!!

It has turned quite chilly here and I am sad as summer fell into fall too quickly. I don't know if my tomatoes are going to ripen in time. Your morning glories are beautiful. I'll try to send our cool weather our way.

Ugh, August is always such a slog in the valley. The sky stays white forever. And then one day ... the marine air comes in, and it's fall. I've noticed that here, the cicadas are getting fewer and fainter. We're finding dead beetles of all kinds everywhere, especially the green figeaters. But we've had so much rain that everything is green, green, green. It's amazing.

That's a powerful (and fitting) quote, Kim.
Oh, the little mockingbird! So precious! I hope he flies soon.
I'm glad Grandma Camp was a success! Getting a tan is more fun than counting steps in my book! Ha ha ha, but you know I have a pretty lazy book!
Take care, sweet friend.

I'll bet you grand children just loved swimming and spending time at your home. Our grand little ones love to be outside ALL the time ... we call them little baked potatoes - all tan and worn out from playing. So much fun !

Powerful words.
They say so much.
