Gardening on the Brain.

This week I have spent with my hula hoe. Trying to make every thing look nice and clean. I do enjoy using that tool. It gives me time to think, to ponder and to plan. This weekend, I am planting the garden. I am going to plant a whole row of sunflowers. I want to have little squares because I can do anything in little squares. That is how my brain works. I hook that way and I clean that way. I told Ron once I could conquer the world one square at a time.

I am so thankful for the warm weather. I will admit it being 104 was a bit too warm, but I do feel better when its warm. I realize that I live outside most of the time. As soon as it gets warm, I am outside, more than inside. I even spent some days this week hooking on the porch. Which to me is bliss.

This picture is from my second garden. Look at those weeds. I remember being so shocked at how they grew that year. I don't think its been like that again. Today I keep thinking of all of the wonderful things I have to be thankful for.  We have made it through a long hard trial, and even though I am tired from it, I am thankful for the lessons I have learned. I have allowed too many weeds to grow. Trials help me to realize what is important and what is not. What things are needful and what things I need to let go. Trials keep me on a short leash. It helps me to de-clutter because I don't have the strength for excess baggage. Being in the garden helps me focus.

I thought about how going forward means keeping my eyes going forward and not looking back. There is I think something magical about being in the garden. Dreaming and drawing out plans. Then to finally see it all beginning to grow and bear fruit. I am so happy to be able to be here right now. I am thankful that joy comes in the morning. Without trials, I don't notice the blessings.

Today is a lovely day. I will be dreaming dreams of a garden to be and flowers to bloom.
Thank you so much for stopping by. I appreciate your friendship and the color you add to my life.

I hope you have a lovely weekend. Thanks for stopping by today,
~Kim~

Happy gardening :)

I loved your post.
Recently bought some seeds.
A couple of them are red sunflowers.
I thought of you when I got them.
Just all dollar store cheap seeds.
The ground hogs will knock over all the sunflowers.
Don't ask how I know this.
It's been several years since I tried any.
Last year they got all my last green tomatoes.
I had three punt stalks of corn, one tiny ear on each.
They wiped those out two.
I think I am a stupid gardener.
I keep buying the same type of things I like.
And the ground hogs like them too.
Oh, and they ate up the few potatoes I planted too.
This year I only planted one.
So far, it has not sprouted, something ate the sprouts!
Life in a garden by the river where the ground hogs live.

I've got gardening on the brain too. I have my onions, garlic, lettuce and radishes in and the asparagus is coming up a little at a time. I want to plant, but I'm still leery of frost here. Soon. In the meantime, I think about it and plan for it.

I'm sorry to hear you've been through a trial, but I so do understand how those trials draw us ever closer to Jesus and help us see clearer what's important. Gardens bring their own trials and joys. I learn so much in my gardens.
God bless!

Sunflowers... our favorites!!
Love your sweet thoughts on trials and blessings. It's true... we certainly appreciate the sweet blessings all the more, esp. after a time of trials.

Did I tell you that the sunflowers all reseeded in the meadow??!! Doin' the happy dance about that!

Have a great week.

I just know your sunflowers and garden are going to be soo beautiful, and I look forward right along with you to see it all coming together. 104 is pretty warm that's for sure. We had a couple of days in the upper eighties and I was thinking I wasn't even ready for that until this week-end we dipped back down into the 40's and 50's and I realized I am ready for the SUN. Though I will probably have to be reminded of that not long from now, lol. Your soo right about the trials btw. God does allow those for very special reasons in our lives, but I am always glad to be on the other side looking back. Hugs to you today!

Wow, 104 degrees, that not warm, that's hot.

I love flowers so much and my gardens are my passion too. Keeping ahead of the weeds seems to be impossible since I can't keep up but as long as it's all green, I can live with it.
Playing in the dirt on my kneed is very grounding and it keeps me humble as I am in awe of God's creation.
It is such a joyful place to be and ponder but I prefer to dig with nitrile gloves, lol.

Have a great week. Hugs, Julia

PS, I got interrupted and forgot to come back to leave a comment earlier . Julia

Have fun with your garden! I am looking forward to seeing and reading all about your sunflowers! My one volunteer flower is looking very sad these days - all the petals have dried up and its head is sagging. Still waiting to see if seeds form!
