The Summer Rug

It is really August around here. About the only flowers I have now are morning glories. Every thing is tired.
The trees are ready to shed leaves and go to sleep. I think they are tired of summer and the heat and drought. Which as it goes, hasn't been so bad. We have had lots of rain and yesterday, we barely made it to 80 which is really, really rare for August. I got cold even. The nights are already down into the 60s which is really different too.

I finished my Summer rug and got it all steamed. It is a big rug. I wondered why on earth I made such a big rug but I am glad I did. It was one of those rugs that was fun to make. I enjoyed every single thing about it. Even if I did have to stop and dye wool three times.

Pattern Adapted from Buttermilk Basin
Now to start my Dancing Witch pattern from The Old Tattered Flag. After I dye some more wool today.
I need a better mix of colors I think.
I hope you have a wonderful Thursday!

~Kim~

The poem I share today, is from one of the very first stitchery I made. As a new wife and mother, it got me through every hard trial I experienced. Still to this day, I say it to myself, when things come into my life I don't understand.

"He giveth more grace when the burdens grow greater,
He sendth more strength when the labors increase;
To added affliction He addeth His mercies,
To multiplied trials His multiplied peace."

"When we have exhausted our store of endurance,
When our strength has failed ere the day is half done,
When we reach the end  of our hoarded resourses
Our Father's full giving is only begun."

"His love has no limit, His grace has no measure,
His power no boundary known untio men;
For out of his infinite riches in Jesus
He giveth and giveth and giveth again."

You are very talented. I don't think I could tackle a rug and you do it so beautifully.

Beautiful rug! I agree with Gail- you are so talented! I'm glad you are getting cooler temps..not so here, but I'm not out in it so I can't complain.

Oh, Kim... I love the rug!! It turned out so cute!!
I bet you'll sell it so fast! That is, unless you decide to keep it :)

Yes, the gardens are getting tired. I think we will have an early Fall though, and the gardens will so to sleep.

Love the poem that you shared. Perfect!

Amen, Kim to that poem! It is a popular piece for soloists to sing in our church and the words are always as real and precious.
I absolutely LOVE how your rug turned out! It is a beauty!
Well done!

Kim, you are a speedy rug hooker. I can't get over how fast you hook that beautiful rug.... I hook about 20 minutes a night if I'm lucky.

It's sad seeing the trees shed their leaves but your trees are green way ahead of ours. So glad your temperatures are cooler and you finally got some rain.

Your Morning glories are so beautiful and obviously are enjoying the California sun. I planted some a few years ago and the earwigs ate them down to nothing. Not a single one survived. I was so disappointed.

Take care and continue to count your blessings.
Hugs,
JB

I copied the words of that hymn and e-mailed them to a friend who needs the reminder right now. Thanks, Kim!

Thank you Kim, for your prayers on my cataract surgeries and concern, I appreciated it. Never in 100 years would I have thought when I read about your surgeries, I would be going through the same thing a year later. But it is always good to know someone that has gone before you that went through the same thing. They understand. Love your rug....you are so creative. Thanks again.

I really like your summer rug. The watermelon stands out to me! We have had a dry, dry month of July and so far, it's carrying on into August, except for today. It's only 75* right now. Still, I'm watering the gardens and sometimes the lawn grass. Hoping you stay cool and maybe have some showers there.

Great poem.
