A Converstation about Rug Hooking

Happy Friday!! Can you believe February is peeking in at the edge of the calendar? I wanted to tell you about a conversation I had yesterday. I became a member of ATHA ( Association of Traditional Rug Hooking Artists) so that maybe I would find other rug hookers in my town.
( Always a temptation to just leave the rug part off.) Not a single person for my town was listed. So I continue to hook away by myself. Thank goodness for the internet.

Yesterday I received a phone call from a lady who got my name from ATHA. I was so excited because I thought another person to hook rugs with, Finally! As we talked, I found out that nope, she has never pulled a loop. She has though bought and bought rug patterns, kits, hooks, frames, books, magazines, and a cutter that is still in the box. She has bought all kinds of hooks and wool. She thought she would do rug hooking but circumstance in her life happened that she was not able to do it. She has read, watched videos and can name designers, and rug camps and teachers. She wants to get rid of it all. ALL OF IT!!!

Next week, I am to go over and look at everything. Isn't that cool? I thought it was. Getting to talk to her and I did talk like a Dutch Uncle to try and get her to try to hook a rug. I told her I would help her and she might really love hooking rugs. So I hope that I can persuade her to try. I think with the challenges she has in her life, I think rug hooking would be nice for her as it is for me, but she just says no. So we will see.

It should be fun I think. She lives on my side of town. So I am excited about an adventure. Part of me though, says, I just got my house decluttered. Do I really want to do this? So we will see.

Ron has been making things, this time it is lovely pendants. Meg's birthday is next week so he made this for her. He is so sweet, I tell you. I gave it to her yesterday, so I can show you. It is a tree with cherry blossoms.

Ron's Grandfather was a wonderful silver smith among other things, so it is so much fun to see Ron making these things now. I continue to be amazed how he can think of something and sit down and make it.

Must go, I have a hula hoe calling my name. Maybe for Valentines Day, I can have a new one, as my hula hoe is almost through the metal on the blade. That is my favorite Valentines Gift.

Have a lovely weekend, weeds and cleaning chicken coops are on my list of things to get done this weekend.

Hi Kim! It would be lovely to have company to RUG hook with, if you can persuade her.
Ron is a man of many talents, great necklace!
Have a super weekend!

Guess I somehow deleted my previous comment... oops.
I think your visit to the lady with the rug hooking supplies will be fun. Just maybe you will be able to inspire her to give it a try. If not, then perhaps you will be an answer to her prayers. It may help her feel better about letting the supplies go, when she knows that you love rug hooking, and that you will appreciate the supplies.

Love the necklace that Ron made for Meg!!
What a generous and thoughtful thing to do.
I am sure that Meg is grateful for his thoughtfulness, and for the way that he shares his talents with the family.

Google is very annoying the last couple of days. They won't let me sign in to comment using my WordPress or OpenID or any other account other than Google. This is one reason I switched to WordPress! My real blog, for those who don't know, is at www.gretchenjoanna.com. Now, my comment:

It will probably be the most freeing thing for that woman to give away all her hooking stuff to someone like you. I know the feeling. The thought of changing her mind and keeping the stuff is a burden she does not want to pick up again.

Oh Kim how exciting! I know just how you feel. Someone to chew over sewing stories is at the top of my list of things I like. My sister Diane will usually chew things over with me, though she doesn't have time to do much herself. I think everyone else who knows me secretly (and sometimes openingly, lol) rolls their eyes when I start another sewing story. This woman probably won't change her mind but how nice for you to get to look at it and maybe bring some of it home. And meanwhile now that you've signed up for the other thing maybe you'll meet someone else who hooks. Your hubby's necklace is just beautiful. It will be cherished I am sure. I hope you enjoy your week-end though it sounds like you have a lot of work planned, lol. Remember to take breaks!

I was going to join ATHA but at the rate I'm hooking lately, I better wait till I retire. lol...
What an amazing coincidence that this lady called you. i wonder what kind of hooking stuff she has and how much she's asking for it. Maybe she'll give it away just to get it out of her life.
Good luck with this.

Your hubby sure has many talents and is truly an artist. The necklace is beautiful and so unique.

Have a great weekend. You're weeding and it's snowing here again this evening.

Hugs,
JB

Ohh, I'm anxious to hear how your meeting with this lady goes. Maybe you will inspire her, or maybe you'll just help lighten her load. Ron's work is so lovely. He is multi talented. I wish I could get as excited about my snow shovel as you get about your hula hoe. Lol

I love my necklace! It's so beautiful, and I just keep staring at it, wondering how he did such tiny loops. It's just so perfect. :) I hope your meeting goes well! It would be cool if you had a hooker friend... hahahaha.
