A New Week

Here we are to a new week, and dare I say it the last week of August. ( Yay!) We will still have hot weather in September, but I know we are on the down side of that. We had a going away party for my niece this weekend. We fixed up a place in the yard. I think it turned out really cute.

We have all kinds of plans for it. We have the fire pit down there and it makes the best place for a party.
There were a bunch of young people down there and you can't even tell it. We would have done more but our tractor had to go to the tractor shop for a tune up.

I think I need to go learn out to be a tractor mechanic. We should get it back this next week sometime and then we can start doing some real work.

We had my son, Ben and Megan the the boys over for dinner on Saturday. He has been going hunting when he gets the chance. We wanted to hear all about his hunting trips. He told us one, and  I sat and cried the whole time. I thought I would share a bit of it.
He and his hunting buddy were driving back in the hills. A dirt road, with ruts and rocks and steep inclines. They were in a four wheel jeep. As they were going down this road, up ahead, Ben said he could see dirt like from another car. After a while they caught up to it and it was a little two wheel SUV. They went to pass it when they could and as they got up next to it, Ben said he saw that the hands on the steering wheel were lined and old, then he saw that the woman driving had a oxygen tank.

He knew then that they were lost. I kept thinking of the poor man and lady as this jeep pulls up and there are these hunter looking guys with guns and other things in the jeep and how scared they must have been.
Ben said, they rolled down the window and he said that he asked them where they were going, and they thought they were going to a resort area the total opposite direction from where they were.

Ben said that the husband had had a stroke so he couldn't drive and the lady who was 86 was shaking like a leaf. He asked them, " Would they like to follow them out and back to town or would they like him to drive?"
The lady jumped in the back seat quick as a wink, and Ben got in and drove them back down the mountain to safety. When they got into a area with cell service he called their son and told them what happened. The lady started giving him money and he told her" that they didn't need anything money," and she said, " Oh yes you do so take it." He said that he and his buddy had dinner and as it was too late for hunting went on back home.

You know how you read stories all of the time how people just end up dying and they find them days later. I guess I never imagined how they got there. As he told the story,  I was was so proud of Ben and what a wonderful man he is and you know how I am proud of my kids, Ben works hard and supports his family and then instead of going on down the road stopped and helped that old couple.

I love this stage of my life. I love seeing what kind of people they are and how incredibly  blessed I am to be their mother. I do feel like the richest woman in the whole wide world. I talked to my grand son yesterday on the phone. He is such a sweet little kid and when he was here over the summer we had lots of talks. He took one of my rugs home with him and yesterday he said, " Grandma you know that rug you made me? Well, I sleep with it every night." " I said oh you do?" He said, " Yes, I sleep with it in my arms so I can dream of you  Next time I come, I am spending a month."  ( He is seven years old.)

No matter how crazy the world gets, and how hard life sometimes is, there are moments that come into my daily life that show me how fairy tales do come true and how it is just a wonderful life.

Happy Monday,

~Kim~

O God, thou art my God, early will I seek thee: My soul thirsteth for thee,
my flesh longeth for thee,
In a dry and thirsty land, where no water is.
Psalm 63:1
( A Psalm of David, when he was in the wilderness of Judah.)

Kim,
this is a wonderful story and example of charity and generosity.
Ben is a fine young man, and of course you are proud of the man he has become. I think all of your children are fine people, and they set a good example for others to follow.

Of course you and your husband raised them with values, and morals, and set a good example for them to follow :)

The world needs more people like Ben !!!

Love that your Grand thinks so much of the rug you gave him, and so much of you. That is so precious.

Have a great week, my friend.

That story of Ben rescuing that couple blows my mind. I'm so glad he was right where he needed to be.

This is a great storey with a happy ending. Just imagine how thankful Ben and his hunting buddy must be to have been there at the right time and help this old couple when they needed help.

You have every right to be proud of your family.

I'm so glad that you were not in the earthquake region.
Hugs,
JB

I just loved that little spot in the yard. It was such a perfect evening and we really didn't want to go home. We were driving back and we kept saying "I wish we could have stayed longer". He said next time we need to bring the tent or something to put the kids down to sleep so we can all stay up late and talk. :)

I am not one bit surprised that one of your kids went out of their way to help someone. Those are the people you raised, with good values and compassion for others. Great job Ben! And the rug story.....soooo sweet

I have enjoyed both stories so much. Ben is such a kind and caring man. I don't blame you for being proud. The grandson/rug story though is my favorite. It is really so sweet so loving so innocent.

Beautiful stories about your son and grandson. You are blessed indeed! Thank you for your kind comments about my mom. I feel that I've been very blessed too. I didn't remember that we shared our anniversary date. Nice to hear of marriages lasting, isn't it?
Blessings,
Marcia

How scared that poor couple must have been, and how lucky and blessed they were to be found, and saved by Ben and his friend. It could have ended tragically. Your grandson is so sweet too, with his rug. Thanks for sharing this inspiring post today.
