Odds and Ends

Today was pretty uneventful. It was a nice day. How was your day today? Excited that tomorrow is Friday?
Today I was watering my chickens and I noticed that a crow was dive bombing something in a date palm over across the way from where I stood. I watched, and it always amazes me how crows just get beside themselves and so angry. I hoped it might be a barn owl going to make a nest there. I kept watching and decided to walk into the house and get my binoculars. It was a red tailed immature I believe. It flew to the power pole and I got my camera to see if I could get a photo. This was a good as I got today.

I think so my bird experts might know better than me.

Here is another shot.

I couldn't get any closer because the crows went crazy and just lost it and started attacking. I thought that they were more like, " see there is a human, now hit him, hit him!!" I felt bad and it made a crying sound as it flew off to the next power pole so I didn't try to get anymore pictures.

I also drew out a couple of  new rug patterns. Me by myself. My daughter was my rug pattern drawer outer. Since I had a pattern in my head and it was wanting to come out I picked up a sharpie and drew it out, then I liked it so much I drew it again. So here it goes, my own design.

Then the other one is this next one.

Then this next hen as I stared at it I would call it my self portrait. We both have the same shape and I thought I might have drawn on burlap how I see myself.

You have no idea how hard it is for me to draw anything. Most things I want to try I can grab a book and after I have read enough to know just a little I can wade in with both feet. Not drawing. I have to over come the many voices in my head. Even by showing this I am using it as a way of quieting the voices that tell me to hide it. I will hook this. I will over come the voices in my head. I enjoyed drawing these two rugs out so much that it was something I would like to conquer. Never mind that they are Whimsical. Never mind if what I hear when I hear the word Whimsical  is no talent. I think every one views the world in their own way. I just happen to view the world like this.

Now I have six rugs plus the two I am currently trying to get hooked now. I think I need to take out some stock in Dorr Wool.

Have a wonderful Friday,

~Kim~

Kim, I think that the bird up the pole is a falcon. No wonder the crows were upset. i know that they attack the eagle in flight.

I think that your chicken rugs are just sweet. I hope that you have as much fun hooking them as you had drawing them.

Take care,
Hugs,
JB

The crows around here have become quite annoying!

You have a real talent for your rug patterns, dyeing wool, and then hooking them! I am in awe of your accomplishments!

You sure have an artistic flair...love your chicken (scratchings) drawings. Will be looking forward to seeing your finished rugs. Must be fun to feed and water the chickens and get some eggs from them as a bonus for taking care of them. Then to take time to stop and watch the crows and falcons fly around. Yes, that is my kind of life. We used to live in northern WI and had a mini farm with cows, chickens, rabbits, ducks, dogs and cats......I would spend hours with my animals, you can learn so much from the animals. Enjoy your life!!!

Well I love your drawings! Honestly I think they are really cute. As for the bird, you certainly have me. We use to get tons of crows at our old house. They were pesky and nasty little birds. But I haven't seen one since we moved. Enjoy your day!

Isn't life rich with a lot to take note of? Every day is something new, your bird neighbors' squabbles, your drawing challenges. I love your blog because it is full of the thoughts of someone who is interested in so many things.

Definitely a redtail. I fight those things constantly to protect my bird feeders. I can't wait to see your rug. I love whimsical art, though I'm no good at it. I'm glad you don't listen to the voices. You go girl!

You made me laugh, with your "self portrait! Have fun with those rugs! I hope that hawk lets your chickens alone...we have a plethora of them around here, and while they may be pretty, they're becoming a nuisance!

Your drawings are absolutely lovely, Kim. You do have talent, you do! Whimsical is fun and good. Whimsical is what I'm always looking for when I find patterns to embroider or cross stitch or needlepoint. Quiet those little voices in your head; your drawings are so cute, and the resulting rugs will be, too.

I love your rug drawings. I think they are as good as the ones you buy. Besides it is original whimsical (very talented) art. One day I may be watching Antiques Roadshow and see a Kim Hollar original rug with a high value. Sorry I couldn't talk today, my battery was almost dead and I had to go to town with Will. Text when you can talk and we will share stories. I have some good ones.

I'm running a little behind this week ... but since I have a couple of days off next week, hopefully I can get caught up and stay caught up. Trouble is ... by the time I get home from watching the Ts, all I want to do is sit down and do a little stitching. Next thing I know, it's bed time. ha!

Your rugs are adorable! I don't know why you'd want to hide those drawings ... they're so adorably cute! I can't wait to see them finished!
