Getting Caught Up

I hope you all had a nice weekend. This first in November. The weather here is perfect. This weekend was a nice weekend but not one you really like to happen very much. We have this place in our yard that was turning into a swamp. Ron and I didn't bring it up to each other and we both quit using the gate. I stopped visiting his trees or going to that side of the yard unless I needed something over there. I hate water leaks and after two years in a row of replacing water heaters and dealing with leaking water it is important that it is fixed before the frost.

Because of where we live, in the desert, we have automatic sprinklers. The sprinkler pipes and the valves wear out just like every thing else. Saturday morning Ron said, he was going to have to start digging. I am not a good digger. I stood outside and talked to him as he started this horrible, yucky job.

The mud was horrible and smelled like sewer, the leak has been there awhile. There are three valves there so Ron had to dip water into that five gallon bucket and carry it out to dump it over and over until he could see where the water was coming from. He had to dig very carefully so he didn't hit a pipe or a valve. He was in mud up to his knees and he was sopping wet. You know I get tired of doing laundry and cleaning house and cooking dinner, but even on my worst day, it is never as hard as the things he has to do to keep things running around here. I know from the photo it doesn't look very big but the hole is about 5 feet by 3 feet. All weekend this was what he did and late Saturday, he came to the door and said, " Hey come look at the leak!" I thought he said, " Come look at this leaf." So I grabbed my camera as I thought to myself, " How wonderful is it my husband found a cool leaf for me."

See all of that terrible mud. We kept making jokes about Hank the Cowdog and the emerald pond.
He replaced the valve that was leaking and it wasn't until he finally found the leak that was under the fence that the water finally stopped running. Now we have to let it dry out. He is going to use the tractor to scoop this mud and take it away and then use sand to fill in the hole and bring in some more dirt to fill the hole.

So our weekend was like that. The weather was beautiful though. I cooked a bunch and made pies. That is all I can ever  think to do, just cook.

Today, they are delivering our firewood.  I always enjoy when our firewood gets here. Then I am ready for storms.

Have a lovely week,
~Kim~

Man, what a mess! At least he can use the tractor now. I made the angel biscuits last night, and oh my. I halved the recipe and I should have made the whole thing. :-)

Oh boy.. what a chore! Glad that you were able to get the problem fixed, and that the weather co-operated too.
I made chocolate chip cookies for the family last night, and I put some in the freezer for lunches this week.

Hope that this is a great week for you, my friend.

I'm chuckling at what you said about all you ever know to do is cook:-) That is about the same with me.:-) It is a blessing to have a husband who is good at being a do-it-yourselfer. Mine is the same way. He just spent hours repairing his lawn mower, thereby saving a bit of money. And - that's always a good thing!

Oh that is a nasty thing to deal with I have experience unfortunately:)
The wood is there and the time to settle in and keep warm and relax is almost upon us, I am looking forward to that I have to admit:) B

Ah, when it rains it pours...a nasty job, but thank goodness Ron got it taken care of...How much and what type of wood do you burn during the winter? Just curious..a wood stove is our only source of heat, we burn about four cords of wood a season...it is becoming down right chilly in these parts!!! Hugs, Julie...

No one wants to tackle those kind of jobs but I know he is glad it's over and behind him especially before the bad weather starts.....
You were so sweet to stay in and cook for the guy.....What a sweet couple you are...

we have been digging a trench, up hill, from a new inlet the town put into our yard for the sewer. so far it is about 35 ft long, part of that is a 15 ft angle, over 3 ft deep, up in a big shelf of rocks, some 2 ft across and 6 inches thick, .. the trench has to be around 20 inches deep, and over a 12 inches wide because of the frost heaves and thaws, . it looks like we are digging a new niagara falls on the hill, we have been at it over a month now, and still need to go another 30 ft. before winter. I got tired just typing that! we can't get a ditch witch in here because of the slope. I'm glad you got yours repaired.

Hi Kim!
Wow! What a job! Ron is a good farmer/land maintainer/fix-it guy! Thank you for your prayers for Bill. He is doing well. He already walked a little. The nurses like him because he's kind and not whiny.
