Binding Rugs and Dyeing Wool

I hope you had a nice weekend. It was nice here but our monsoon moisture is back and we woke up to the flashes of lighting and the rumble of thunder. You know those days when the air outside is still and any thing you do, you just stand as sweat rolls down your back? Well, that is today. I of course decided that this was the week I was going to bind all of my rugs.

I dyed some wool this weekend. I really enjoy that. It takes me about 3 hours all told but it is to me some of the best time to do a project. There is something just rewarding in dyeing wool.

They are lighter than I normally do but I found them to be pleasing colors to me. I love the mustard colors that I got and the green. The pumpkin color isn't what I was  going for but it will work for what I have in my mind.

I finished hooking the biggest rug I have ever done, this weekend.

After I get all of the rugs I have hooked, bound. I  will be listing them on my Etsy store.

Here are the rest of the rugs I have done so far this summer. With school getting ready to start here next week if feels nice to finish up with my summer projects.

I love this little rug. Just a fun kind of rug.( Pattern by Cathy Greschner)

I had a hard time staying with this rug but now that it is finished I really have enjoyed looking at it. I used only the wools that I hand dyed myself in this pattern. (Pattern by Maggie Bonami )

Of course the last of my chicken rugs. I am almost finished with all of my unfinished projects I have one more that I will try and work on this week. After finished the big pumpkin and crow rug this week this one doesn't seem so big now. (Pattern by K.M.Carroll)

I really like this whale by Polly Minick. So this is this one of the things I will be working on too.

The only thing left in my garden is my sunflowers. My pumpkins never even got a single pumpkin nor did my cucumbers get a single cucumber. Planting late like I did was not a good thing. One thing about gardening it is trial and error and sometimes things work and sometimes they don't but it is fun to learn in the process. It means I am one step closer to that perfect garden I dream about in my mind.

Lot of things going on in my brain this week. Lot of good things and lots of dreams to dream. I hope you have a nice week too.

~Kim~

Where do you find the wool that you then dye? Do you buy it plain white first? I'm looking into a little dyeing myeself - for some fleece I have for spinning! Our garden was a weird one this year....good tomatoes but very disappointing on the yellow squash and zucchini front.

They are all great. I can't wait to see everything in your etsy store. Sometimes I wish I dyed my own wool but I think I would get carried away trying to get that perfect shade that's in my mind.

I think all your rugs are great! Dyeing your own wool must take a good chunk out of the day!

Have a good Monday!

I'm excited for you that you are opening an Etsy store to sell your rugs and probably some other handy work. I'm looking forward to your first sale.

I've noticed that there are hardly any crabapples on my tree this year. I guess the bees couldn't pollenate the flowers because of the heavy rain and cold we had this spring. There's always next year. A gardener is always hopeful for a better crop next year. You planted different seeds this year with the big wedding and you'll get your little pumpkin to brighten your days.
Hugs,
JB

Your rugs are wonderful!
We have plenty moisture but no sweat trickling. Oh no ... it's now the weather for our peat fire :)

And, oh yes, life for a gardener is absolutely *full* of trial and error... Or just *trials*!

I am so amazed at your gifts and talents! I do love the colors of your dyed wool, beautiful, because of the rain we have replanted our garden now 5 times, Dh informed me this morning that he was afraid we had lost our last planting, and would probably now have to wait until next year. I was suppose to finish the blueberries today but it started raining last night and has rained all day. boo hoo! One of the reason I have been on my computer. ~smile~
Hugs,
Sue

Oops, in my rush to get to work, I was too quick on the publish button. Your rugs are all very nice and so is your dyed wool. I can't wait to have time to dye some wool too this fall.

Your rugs are great and I am so glad you get to stay home and enjoy making them. Enjoy your new season of life, enjoy the fruit of your hands and watching each of your children spread their wings. Yes, you have had a lot going on...I think the end of 2012 to all of 2013 have been some of the biggest days in my life also.
Blessings and hugs..your rugs are just wonderful.

It's funny how you love the Minick and Simpson rugs and I love their quilts! I just ordered another pattern. It's a GORGEOUS one and should work up easily ... I just have to finish up the one I'm currently working on and then the ones for DD and for my grandsons. Your rugs are always just so lovely! You've been busy this summer!
