Eye Doctor Visit

Yesterday I went to the eye doctor. When I think of how much I worried compared to how easy it was and pretty much pain free, well except for the checkbook. :)
My husband had his appointment first so he left an hour before me. I got to shake and pace and try and keep myself calm. The doctor office was less that three minutes from the house. It took longer to find a parking place.
The office is just beautiful it is filled with cherry wood cabinetry and lots of granite. Queen Anne tables are set up all over the place with gorgeous flower arrangements. The girls that work there are sweet and as my husband said, just wholesome girls.

When I got there of course I didn't bring my drug store glasses, so it was a good thing Ron was there to read the papers for me. He told me and explained all of these procedures to me and I thought it sounded like he must have spent his whole appointment asking questions for me. I was so touched because I realized he was just as scared as I was about the visit. He was going to go run errands but then he said he would just stay there and wait for me.

The very sweet girl took me back to the first machines and I looked through all of the things and pressed buttons and it was kind of fun. I wanted to quip that I felt I was finally on Jeopardy. But I didn't. One of the machines they have is one where they can look behind the eye to see the health back there. That was the one I wanted to have done the most because I was so afraid I had a tumor behind my eye.

I finally got in the room where the doctor was and I thought it was interesting that even though the computers said one thing he called the girl back in to retest me. He kept saying there is no way this is right go back and use a different machine. This always happens to me. Every time I go to the doctor or dentist I always have to be retested for something. Except this time I was scared. Ron was sitting out in the waiting room and just seeing him sitting there was enough to calm me down. We did the test again. Walked back to where the doctor was waiting.

I guess the numbers looked better and then I looked through his machines. He finally said, " How are you able to function?" He said, " This is how you see all of the time, how do you drive?" Are you afraid to drive? I said that " Yes, it was getting harder and harder to drive places and I have to make myself leave the house." He just shook his head in disbelief. I was thinking " Geez it isn't that bad."

Then he said that I have two cataracts and a couple of pterygiums. Which I had an idea I had one cataract but not two and I knew I had the pterygiums. I asked did I need to have them removed? He said," not for a long time he hoped." He asked me if I had spent lots of time outside and I said that I had and that I do and he said that living here because of the sun, the glare and years of exposure and my age what I have is just normal for living here. He still kept shaking his head about how bad my eyes were. He told me that when I get my glasses that I have to put them on as soon as I get out of bed and leave them on all day.

I got to go pick out glasses and I am pretty excited. I know it will be nice to be able to see again and not be afraid to drive. I felt like a ton has been lifted off my shoulders. I am so thankful nothing was serious and that soon the headaches will be gone. That was another thing he said, dryly I thought, " Yes, I bet you are having horrible headaches." They will go away after I get used to the glasses.

So that is all it was and now I am so glad that now I can focus on Christmas and all of the wonderful blessings that have been given to me this week. All I can say is that God has been so good in every way and how I doubted Him and then He just surprises me. I just wish I trusted sooner and walked by faith and knew that every thing does work out for good.

Thanks for all of your kind comments, I was so scared that I hung onto each one. It is funny how sometimes just one single comment can give me the strength to do what I need to face for that day.
So thank you very much,
~Kim~

I'm so glad to hear things are going to be fine once you get your glasses! And yes, you need to wear them...believe me, I know how hard that can be...but if you can see well and lose the headaches, it's so worth it!! Hope you post some pics of you and your new glasses! :

I feel soo bad Kim as I somehow missed ALL of this. How can it be as I try to never miss one of your posts...but so glad it is all just fine. I have worn glasses/contact lenses since I was 11 years old, and feel like the eye doctor is just something I do once a year. They won't renew your contact lense prescription without one. I do remember the first time I ever wore my glasses. I was stunned you could actually see leaves on trees, and blades of grass etc. What a beautiful world! Soo glad glasses will get rid of those nasty headaches for you. I bet you will be years and years before you will need the cataract surgery. My mom and my hubby's father are just now getting them, and they are easy and no big deal in today's world, who knows how easy they might be by then. Looking forward to you feeling better, AND seeing those new glasses. Enjoy your week-end! HUGS

Hi Kim, I can't wait to see you with your new glasses. I can't imagine a grandmother without glasses. lol...
I'm glad that you only need glasses to make the headaches go away.

I broke my frame right at the top by the nose piece on Wednesday morning while I was cleaning my dusty lenses when I got home from the barn. I called the optometrist and he couldn't solder my titanium frame but fitted my lenses into another frame by grinding the bottom of the lenses a tiny bit and loan them to me. I have an eye appointment on dec 6th but I can see better already as the frame fits better than the first one...

I'm glad that your mind is at peace.
Have a great weekend
Hugs,
JB

How wonderful that you will soon have your glasses! Then you will be able to see what you have been missing.:) I go yearly for an eye exam and had to add bifocals several years ago.

I send wishes along for a good week-end!

Oh I'm so glad it was that simple. New glasses are much better than big surgery. When do you get them? Are they cute?

Picking out glasses is really fun! Make sure you take Ems, she'll make sure you get really cute ones.

Also, when you do get your thingumies removed, make sure to NOT do it the week everyone in the house gets pinkeye. Remember Dad's? :-D

Oh, Kim- we are so alike. I tend to make something out to be bigger than it actually is. I can get myself spinning and worrying, just to find out that something wasn't that hard. I'm glad all is well. I'm glad you will be able to see again.

Can you imagine how I felt going to the eye doctor when I woke up blind in one eye, three years ago? I was so afraid of the news he might give me. And you know what? It turned out to be the worst news possible. That doctor sent me to a specialist who confirmed that I would probably always be blind in that eye. I cried for days. Then, I said "No way" and started researching online (with one eye- talk about headaches!!!) I found a treatment by a natural doctor. I then started telling myself I would see again. One day, my hubby was driving somewhere and I was a passenger. I closed my good eye and tried to see straight ahead (but nothing). My hubby asked what I was doing. I told him I was practicing looking out of that eye, because one day I would see again. One day is here. I don't even have to wear glasses, but I do when driving at night. God is good!
Big hug!

I'm so glad you finally got tested. You are going to be amazed what the world looks like once you can see again! And once you adjust and the headaches stop you can stitch and hook all day long!
The driving thing was a little scary.

Glad it went well!Funny, how, most of the time, things are never as bad as we imagine they are going to be. Welcome to the "I Wear Glasses All The Time Club"! Hope you will post a picture. You will enjoy Christmas so much more now...so glad for that!

I bet your glasses will look adorable on you!
When I wear my contacts, I'm always putting on my readers and then I realize I should just wear my regular glasses. They cover up eye lines. Yay!
Take care, sweetie pie!

You and I are so alike ... I too always worry and imagine the worst ... and then things are never as bad as I had imagined.

I'm so, so, so glad that your visit went well and that your vision troubles and headaches should disappear once you get used to your glasses.

Whew! I am so glad that glasses will fix you up! Sometimes the imagination can be more harmful than reality! lol!

I do that 'mountain out of a molehill' thing pretty much on a daily basis. Drives me nuts but, I always figure if I expect the worse, the reality won't be as bad or, at least I'll be prepared. LOL So glad you won't be having eye surgery! I'm terrified of that. I don't like anyone or anything near my eyes.
