Tuesday Twaddle

I have been trying to think nice things about August. I admit to having a bad attitude to this heat and I have no right to complain. The one good thing about August is the water is warm in the swimming pool. So that is my nice thought for August.

I cleaned and washed and vacuumed yesterday. By the time I got the dishes done and the kitchen cleaned and the chickens put away for the night I was exhausted. I am a whiner and I don't like that about myself. This post isn't about me though, I wanted to write some things about my husband, things that he teaches me without saying a word. I wanted to write about the contrast between me and my husband.

My husband has a interesting job. He works with all kinds of companies and lots of different people. Most of the time he works out of the office here in town. But sometimes he has to drive out of town to other places. This week he is driving an hour out of town to a place out in the middle of no where. The place they jokingly call The Oasis.
He wanted to show us where he was working this week as a joke. Since our kids are always making movies he wanted to show them how creepy it is where the work station is he works from. I have to say it had a different kind of effect on me.

When the video starts he is climbing stairs up to the inside of  a ware house. All of the duct work is exposed and it is a giant metal building. He goes up these stairs and in the dark room with no windows are the computers. In the video there is the sound of this high pitched whining not much different from fingernails on a chalkboard only mechanical and it never stops.  I guess from the air conditioning. He said he hadn't noticed until he was showing us the video. The man he is having to work for is a pint sized want-to-be-dictator. The man guards his turf like a bull dog. He is the kind of man who makes lots of mistakes and throws others under the bus. This man got into a bind and because he is having an audit he had to ask the company my husband works for if they could send some one to help him.

I know that this is a very hard situation. You know that submission word that I know I hate and really don't like to do it and never with a good attitude? Well, watching my husband submit and do it with a smile and such a good attitude. To see him leave this morning like he didn't have a care in the world, happy that he had his lunch and ear buds so he wouldn't have to hear the high pitched sounds, just makes me feel so ungrateful.
Last night I kept asking him about his day, and he would just say, " I think God is doing something really good in my life right now." That is it, that isn't my attitude I can tell you.

When he showed the kids, and he really didn't see what a terrible place it was to work, the kids were really shocked to see where and what  their Dad was doing this week. They didn't say much but kept looking at him because I think they saw something I guess I saw, a man who does the hard things and doesn't complain and gives up so much so I can stay at home and complain. It was a very powerful wake up call for me.

Anyway, I just wanted to share this because sometimes, it is that quiet testimony that speaks to me the loudest. I am really spoiled and I hadn't noticed it in awhile. He always lays down his life for me, and sometimes it just overwhelms me.
Have a great Tuesday,
~Kim~

We do have very hard working, loving, sacrificial men! Ben is like that, now I know where he gets it from. Some of the junk he puts up with without complaint just amazes me. He is always looking for the good thing, and how it will make him a better person.

Your dh has a tremendous amount of self-respect. That is why he smiles and does his job good (unlike the small man that does bad and throws others under the bus).

I received the Halloween Cross stitch mag in the mail yesterday! Oh wow! At least 6 NEED to be stitched for THIS halloween!!! Thank you so much for your generosity! :-) I think this year's is better than last years!

Wow, what a wonderful man that you married. I think that he has a great attitude and is non judgemental and does things with a loving heart, and HE"S ALL YOURS. See what a lucky woman you are.

I hope that you have a bit of a break from the heat. My August complaint is the flies are bothersome in August and comes in on the cows. They seem to bite too this time of year. September is just around the corner and soon the summer will be over. The pool sounds so inviting.

Hugs. JB
Have a good week.

Wow, I hope I can complain as little as that. I feel like all I do is gripe. Prayer really helps, I think. Anyway, I'm tired of the heat, too. I know it won't last much longer, though. We'll start getting those wonderful cooldowns in between heatwaves.

That was sooo well said. And what a guy - what a REAL man - for working like that without complaining. What a blessing for you :)

(Oh, and I am *trying* not to complain, but you don't think you could send just a bit of your heat over my way..... ;) Thank you!)

Oh, this was a beautifully written reminder to appreciate our husbands. My husband works outside, and this heat has been terrible. We are blessed to be able to be home with our kids because of their willingness to work under harsh conditions. Well said!!
Blessings,
Marcia
