August Ritual Begins

Today begins my week of window washing. Three days if I stop procrastinating and get off the computer and quit whining about being of top of a ladder for three days. It is a funny thing about ritual. I was thinking about it. I started doing this spring-fall- cleaning thing when I had six little ones at home whom I was homeschooling and once I started school I didn't really clean house until Christmas vacation. Then not again until Easter vacation. That is one of the hardest things I thought was putting school before my housework. Sometimes I was okay with it but it remained always a struggle for me. I learned early on that in August I must have every thing in my house very clean. So I didn't loose my mind about October when fingerprints were every where.  But sometimes even then I would have a Teacher-in-service day so I could clean.

I always start here and work my way around the house. This house has 40 windows. 80 if you count washing the inside.  That isn't counting the little windows above these windows.
All of the windows have those tiny windows above the windows. I have never counted them. I guess it might prove to be to much of a daunting task. With the porches it would make the house so dark so the house was designed with lots of windows which I don't mind after living in a house with six windows. Even when it is dark in the winter there is always light and I need lots of light.

This morning I was thinking I only have one senior to teach. He really doesn't need me to be around staring at him while he is supposed to be working or me going off on some weird tangent like I do. Telling him some thing I had just read or finding some UFO article or a story on Bigfoot you know all of that stuff I come up with when I am supposed to be teaching school. I could clean house and wash windows anytime. But I know I wouldn't because well, it is my last year to do teach. So maybe my last August to climb on a ladder and wash windows. In fact maybe next year I can wait until October. When is is cooler.

Have a wonderful week, this week my hat is a window washing hat.

Heh, I am trying to make sure I get my house clean before school starts too. Maybe it's just the season? I have fans to clean and windows to wash and all kinds of stuff. At least my school planning is done. ;)

Whew! Good luck with that task! I do a couple each weekend during the cooler months. I used to take a week off to clean the whole house top to bottom (Spring/Fall cleaning)... but then I realized why waste good vacation days to clean? A little bit (hour or two) each weekend got it done without actually realizing I was doing it.

Well it IS a lot of windows to wash no doubt, but I am like you...I love the light. I really like the way yours look there around the tub. You'll be done before you know it! Enjoy your day! HUGS

I used to be fanatic about spring and fall cleaning when I was young, working a full time job and 2 little ones. Now that they are grown and I am lots older I sill do spring and fall cleaning but not always on schedule. ;-)

What a great place for the tub!
Hope you stay safe atop the ladder!

Kim, you are the most disciplined woman I know. I did that for years when I was younger , wash all the walls and windows spring and fall and measured myself on how clean my house was but as I got busier and older I kind of just did it once a year. , EVENTUALLY it gets done when I get around-to-it. Right now I don't have one.
That's it.... I need a round-to-it. hahaha.

Be careful on top of that ladder. Your tub enclosure is some posh...

Hugs, JB

I wish I had your self-discipline.... and I don't have *that* many windows. I normally get my son to head out and hose and sponge them, but when he doesn't dry them off, they end up with streaks. :/ With the salt from the sea here, they need done fairly regularly.

You know, I was looking at my windows and light fixtures and thinking of cleaning them. Then I shook myself and went, "Where did that idea come from?" Now I know. It's August!

It will feel so good to get all the windows sparkling clean :)

Fall is a wonderful time to de-junk, organize and clean for me.
I know I don't want to be cooped up all winter with clutter ~~~LOL!

Have fun, and be safe!

All my inside window panes have Bella's wet nose marks on them. We do the windows in the spring and then again in the fall. Cleaning windows for me is right up there with cleaning bathrooms. I dread it!

I used to get my windows all washed in two days, with my mother in law's help. (all 34 of them) Now I do it myself, and it takes me forever! We got replacements that tilt...a couple a year...and it makes the job much easier, but it's still a daunting task.

I'll bet you'll be so satisfied to have this job finished!!

I usually start my cleaning in August, too,Kim, but that won't happen this year as we are in the process of remodeling, and I am looking at weeks on end.
Good luck with the window washing, I do love sparkling windows!
Hugs,
Sue

Be careful on that ladder!

That is a LOT of windows. Maybe you should give your last student extra credit if he helps you?? You could be "teaching" him how to delegate.....just a thought.
Be careful!

My windows are overdue ... but because I'm not homeschooling (ha!), I'll wait until October ... when it's cooler. Except for the windows in the back of the house ... we have what's called a lookout basement (not dug out all the way to be a walkout, but enough to have full sized windows in the basement) ... those windows are a story and a half up ... and I don't do heights. I may have to see about hiring someone to do that. ;-)

Too hot still to do any window washing at my house...sounds like a good excuse doesn't it? With all those windows you must have some great views...be careful on that ladder

I'm NOT that organized. Good for you. Windows? What windows?

You are such a good worker, Kim! If I was your neighbor, I would appear with tall icy glasses of lemonade and say, "Come down!" Have some lemonade!"
I don't clean as much as I should. I've followed nice little systems before and I may create a new one, to make it more fun for my distracted self!
Don't overdo!
