Just A Summer Day

I know this shot is far away but do you see how blue the sky is and not a cloud in the sky? It means it is filled with lots of hot air, pretty much like this post. :) My grand children have been taking swimming lessons this week. Today, for the first time in their little lives, Grandma and the Moms let them beyond the gate around the pool and they got to go swimming in Gama's swimming pool. I loved it so much. The Moms would get in but with two small babies they had to take turns. I stayed out too long in the sun with them but it was worth it. I had a blast. I can't wait until next week.

I have a chicken story to tell you today. I am attached to these chickens. Like I told you though, I am really attached to the black one. She just has such a spunky little personality. When I feed them at night she gets on the door so she can get the first bite of feed. She also wants the first pet too. I hold the dish so she can get the first bite as I pass it on into the cage for all of the others.

Today though, I changed the routine just a bit so I could clean the dish. She had got out on the door like normal, but then I heard the tiny sound of little wings flapping. I turned around and she was standing on the ground looking a bit perplexed. The other little chicks were on the door looking down at her. I put the feed in the cage before I picked her up to put her back in the cage.

As I touched her, I said, " See that is what happens when you don't wait for me, you run ahead and not only did you fall off, but you didn't get the first bite."
Then it hit me, how much I am like that little chicken. I see something I think would be good for me, and I run ahead, and then instead of waiting on God and letting Him give me what He wants, I settle for what I thought was the best, when there could be so much more. I am always running ahead it seems and landing on the ground, even though I flapped my wings.

It just struck me as I stood and stared at the chickens while they ate their food. I thought, in the morning my little black chick will be on the door, waiting for her first bite, just like today. She won't have learned anything. So I wondered do I learn when I take a fall or do I go right back to doing what I want, with no thought of anything else, other than wanting my own way.

Just some thoughts while I stared at my chicks today.
Have a great Thursday!
~Kim~

Wonderful analogy! I posted something similar once but it wasn't a chick... it was a goat... stubborn, headstrong and determined. God spoke to me through that critter, too!

very deep, very true, I am so guilty of not waiting. sshhheesh. I'm so glad He does not give up on me!

Ah, aren't we all like that chick? Running ahead and missing the best?

My munchkins are red as lobsters. I had to put sunburn lotion on them before they could go to bed, poor things. But they'll tan up quite nicely.

I'm like that little chicky too... always trying to rush to where I think I should be instead of enjoying the here and now... after 42 years of living that way, is it even possible to change? lol!

Great post! I'm guilty of this as well. I just signed up for my first administrative course for becoming a vice-principal. Now, I'm terrified. It's hard to get quiet to hear what God is trying to say to us! I do love that there is such a thing as chicken wisdom, though!!
Hugs to you for this thoughtful message!

What a great analogy, Kim, I admit I am like your little black chick, most of the time, and like you still loving your chick,I am so thankful that God loves me anyhow.
Love to hear of your grandma stories, too, enjoy this time of rest, you certainly have worked hard.
Hugs,
Sue

Wonderful story ... and excellent application. It's amazing what God can use to get His lessons through to us ... thank you for sharing them with us (I certainly need them!).

I can just see the swimming lessons..how much fun.

Great chicken story...I pray I learn, or else I fall again and again, but His mercies and grace are sufficient.

You see God and good in everything Kim. How wonderful to always put him first. I forget that sometimes.

I had so much fun swimming yesterday! It was so nice to not have to be so panicky about them even looking at the water, let alone being in it! I am so glad they are all getting lessons.

I love how God used a little chicken to speak to your heart, sometimes we find things we weren't even looking for (or in this case learned something)Keep cool out there.

It was such a GOOD analogy Kim...and one I can relate to for sure. I speed ahead of God WAY too often. Loved imagining all your kids and grands swimming. How fun for you. Are you getting all the humid weather that we are? It is just horrid out today! Hope you had a good day!

Another thought provoking lesson from the chickens. I know I keep saying I want some but, if they're going to be making me realize all the things I do wrong...LOL What a great time with the grands! So glad you had such a wonderful day all around!
