Lighting Storms and Other Things

My sister sent me photos from last night and the lighting storm she could see going on outside. She said there will be another one tonight. It has been a long time since I have watched light shows like this one. We rarely get lighting. My hat is off to all of you who live in places that produce storms like this. I really do like weather. I think I do because I never have any weather. I think though secretly I would like to be a storm chaser.

That is so amazing to me and scary at the same time. Such power.

It just amazes me to see that cloud just right there so low. You know that a tornado could just drop right out of the sky.

My sister has had the job of going through my Mom and Dad's things. So she keeps sending things she runs across. Today I got a couple of boxes with old photos in it. This is the very, long time ago Kim. I loved showing animals and this was one of my favorite steers. It was the year that the Cincinnati Reds won the world series. I was a big fan so of course I named my steer Cincinnati Red, The big red machine.

He was a heavy weight steer and when I was trying to halter break him as a calf, he dragged me all over the place. I never thought I would ever get him halter broke. I loved him though and I loved working with him and I was so glad that my sister found this picture because he was one of my favorites. Now if she could just find the picture of me and Goldie. Goldie, I delivered as a calf and he was my last show steer. That was one of my favorites things to do as a young woman was get a wild calf and turn it into a mild mannered animal. I loved everything about the cattle industry. I really did think I would grow up and be a ranchers wife. Who knew that when I fell it would be for a young, computer programmer with dreams that I came to share as my own.
Funny thing about life isn't it?

Okay, who knew I would be called Farm Girl. :)
I just love how pretty he is, and I just loved his face. I have tons more pictures and who knows If I will share them or not. Memory lane is hard for me to walk down sometime.

I hope you have a lovely Thursday,
~Kim~

Gosh Mom, you look like Ems. And he's a huge steer! No wonder he dragged you all over the place. Also the lightning is fantastic. I think I'd be scared to death.

Lightning in Arizona can spell disaster in the form of wildfires!

I grew up in a small rural community. A lot of my school friends were in 4H. I don't know how this relates, but I never liked the Miss America pageant because it reminded me of showing the livestock in the ring. Just saying...

I love to watch the weather ... particularly from the safety of my home. ;-) That one picture of the low-lying cloud with lightning was breath-taking!

We got a little tiny taste of lightening this morning- and a couple of spits of rain- that was IT! We need it so badly.

Lightning storms are common in Illinois. I am not fond of them but I would welcome one now as we are needing rain badly.
I love the picture!!

We had a HUGE storm blow in one night at Melody's....the wind whipped soo hard it blew the huge bbq around their patio and the chairs were clear across the lawn. We lost power for about 30 minutes and the lighting crashed and the thunder roared, and it poured for about 10 minutes...then it was gone...soo weird and powerful. I loved it. The bull looks huge...no wonder he pulled you around. I for one would love to see others. Have a good day Kim!

We have had lightening shows like that every night this week...and you don't! Wow, how different parts of the country can be...we know not to stand out side during lightening.

I love the picture and how your dreams were turned to his...isn't that what marriage is for all of us...it turns out totally different from our dreams. I know mine have also.

Hi Kim..
those are some pretty intense lightening storms...yikes!!

Nice that you have the picture of you with your steer.
It is hard to walk down memory lane sometimes... but I'm glad it's there :)

Thanks for sharing.
Smiles :)

Can't believe you're wearing white with that steer!

Storms in our area can be very severe and damaging at times, so we don't look forward to them too much. A good steady rain we consider a blessing, but not the lightning and high winds that come with storms.

Sometimes memories are all we have to sustain us at difficult times.

Have a good Thursday!

Cincinnati Red is pretty and so are you, Kim! We have lightening shows like this very frequent here in the South. Your sister took some beautiful photos. Enjoy your day,
