Chats on The Farm House Porch

It is time again to link up with Patrice and have a chat on her farmhouse porch. I know I have been busy trying to get mine back to spend most of our time on it. We spend more time on our porches than we do in the house.

So do the cats.

Now on to this weeks questions:
1.    What's the last big gathering you attended? (wedding, funeral, graduation, party, riot, etc)

We had to go to a really big wedding shower. My daughter is a bridesmaid in a couple of weeks. It was the largest thing I have been to in awhile.

2.    Do you switch over your seasonal wardrobe, wear the same things year round, have a huge closet to put it all in, or throw everything out and buy new each season(I threw the last one in there to see if you're paying attention;)?

Haha, buy new each season, I caught that. I really hate shopping so I keep things until it just falls apart. I rotate my clothes out every spring and fall. I like to keep my closet as empty as possible. I try to keep the colors in families. I am still working on getting my closet very empty of my clothes. Since I have been the same size since I was 30 I have clothes that are that old. I finally decided it was time to start getting rid of them. I even had satin pajamas my husband bought me when we had our son, our son is 26 now.  I have a goal of only having a few shirts a skirt and a dress and a couple pair of jeans and shorts and capris. Ever since I read the 80/20 principle I keep trying to live that. Then like Corrie Ten Boom had just a suitcase, that is my goal after my kids are all married and in their own houses, to be free of my "stuff".
After cleaning out houses for the people I loved I don't want my children to have to do that after I am gone.

3.    What sweetener do you use most often?

I use honey. My very favorite.

4.    Slippers, socks, or barefoot?
None of the above. Shoes always, I am always taking off outside and it would be a pain to have to change.

5.    What questions would you like me to ask the group over the next few weeks?

I don't know if I have any this time.

Thanks to Patrice for having a chat this week. I hope you are all having a very nice week.

~Kim~

I had no idea that you felt like that about cloths. Wow...

Your porch looks so very inviting, comfortable and beautiful. No wonder that you would want to spend more time there than inside.

No wonder you didn't had questions for Patrice, I hogged them all. he he.
Hugs, JB

I am with you in simplifying....I don't want my children to go through what we had to go through when my mother in law went to the nursing home....Less is best....only those things that really mean something.....

Your porches are so nice and comfy; I see why you stay outside so much....I love my screen porch...I love out there.....

Well first of all...anyone who has stayed the same size for 30 years is getting my standing applause...can you hear it from Texas...and also had six children...pray due tell your secret.

I am on less is better also...but what I laugh about is some of my less is now needing to be replaced, I mean you still have to have something to set on!

Great post...always fun...and we do so enjoy your porch

I am getting rid of stuff, too. I even wrote about this not long ago. I want as little as possible. I really have realized I don't need or want much. I want to simplify. I am happier with less. My husband, friends, critters, and reading, writing, nature...that is what makes me happy.

I couldn't agree more on the less is better idea. And I wear things until they fall apart too. But shoes? Nope, I am a barefoot gal, sandals, and shoes is I have NO choice, haha. I LOVE your porch. It just looks soo comfy and serene. Hope you enjoyed your day!

I love your porch and love it when I come across one in a blog. The photo of your flowers is gorgeous!
I spend nearly every morning on my front porch and it seems we feel the same about them! :)

I agree with getting rid of the stuff you don't use. My problem is I'm saving it all for the kids apartments they will be getting in a year or two.

This was such a great read Kim I enjoy chats on your front porch, which by the way , looks wonderful, oh! how I would love to live nearby. We probably would not get much work done as we would be sharing. Well maybe, as I could have used some help today making the jam.~lol. I thought of you btw. ~smile~
I am almost alway barefoot inside, and have tried to wear socks, and shoes but have been bare footed for so long, that I can't wear those shoes, I guess it is the country in me lol I am a country girl through and through, and if you heard my southern drawl you would laugh!!

Now as far as the clothes in the closet, I am so glad I kept my old clothes last year, because, I am now having to bring them back down stairs since gaining back my weight. lol Would you believe I almost got rid of them? And like you I don't like to shop for clothes, now a thrift store or garden shop, or home goods store, I am up for that.~grin~
Oh my goodness Kim I have written another book, I was going to email you tonight, but since I have covered my life history here, I will mail you later this week. as always I do enjoy visiting you. just thought of something else......
I just heard on the news tonight that Dick Clark had passed, I am sad about that as I really liked him, seemed like a fairly decent guy. I am going to tell my age by saying I loved American Bandstand. lol
Hugs,
Sue

I only wear does when absolutely necessary. Barefoot and flp flops are my choice. You would have a stroke if you saw my closet....

I totally understand the answer about paring down the amount of clothes. The only problem with that is how many things I need so I'm not having to run things through the wash all of the time. I do tons of laundry each week. The farm makes SO much laundry!Like you, I don't want my poor kids to have to go through lots of STUFF. I didn't know that Corrie ten Boom had only a suitcase. She had so many valuables, but those were her words and thoughts! Have a good rest of the week!

When we moved 3 years ago, we got rid of a lot of unnecessary stuff. There's still more that probably ought to go. I think that will be my goal this summer ... to clean out what needs to be given away.

I prefer flip flops ... it's almost like not wearing shoes, but I do have the protection for when I go outside.

After weeks (or longer) of having to go to your blog via a bookmark rather than my Google Reader, I think I may have solved the problem. I've got some blog posts (of yours and a few other bloggers) that showed up in my reader this morning ... from back in the middle of March. The only thing is that this happened once before, and I thought Google straightened itself out ... and then after awhile, some blog posts were once again no longer coming into my Google Reader. I hope it's truly fixed this time.
