Lovely Fridays

Isn't is nice to wake up on Friday morning and know that you have a whole day before a whole weekend? I have so many plans for this weekend. I want to dye some wool. I got the final piece of resistance in my soap making. After my colossal flop the last time I made soap, I decided I needed a good soap thermometer. In my catalog I get from the place I ordered bee things they sell everything you need for making soap. So I got this the other day.
I am having a hard time finding the right kind of lye. Here in California they added stuff to the lye so that people can't use it to make Meth Labs. I mean really who in the world would want to take something made with lye is beyond me but now the lye I have always used has an additive. I found some I think that might work now, but I had to search and search.

I did work on my rug just a tiny bit when I had the boys. I am ready to get busy and finish it up. I ordered a pattern from Polly Minick last week and you know how huge her rugs are so I would like to do a chicken rug that she has on her blog. I would like to buy the newest book just for the pattern of the whale. I love that pattern.
Here is what work I got done.
I did get a tiny bit of March started on my Word Play and then yesterday I got April and another Pattern from  Country Stitches
Here is the other pattern that I think is fantastic. I can't wait to make it.
It could be that blue and brown ticking on it but I love the colors.

I also got some lovely wool this week too.  I can't wait to cut it up and dye the colors I need to work on my next projects.
This weekend is my daughter's 21 birthday. So there will be food to prepare, gardens to start getting laid out and start getting seeds assembled.
We are supposed to have a week of 70 degree weather. I know that sounds cruel to those of you with snow on the ground. But think of it, when you are having beautiful 70 degree weather I will be burning up with 90 to 100 degree temps. It all balances out.

I hope you have a lovely weekend. Thanks for all of your lovely comments this week. You really did bless me and made my day. I thank God daily for all of you. Thank you for visiting me when I haven't been able to get around to visit you.
Your comments do really make me so happy.
Thank you,
~Kim~

Good luck with your soap making. I used to make soap from scratch like you are doing. I had no idea about the "lye" business. Enjoy your beautiful weekend. I too will be so ready for spring when this snow is all gone. Hugs! Florence

Just stopping by to say Hi, and as always enjoy seeing your hands at work, creating such beautiful treasures. Sending a special 21st Happy Birthday wish to your daughter from me. Good luck with the soap making, something I have always wanted to try, but haven't.
Enjoy your weekend.
Hugs,
Sue

Good morning! I LOVE your rugs. Wish I could see one up close and personal. I have a feeling that photographs don't do them enough justice. Good luck with that soap making, and ENJOY your week-end. Our weather is gorgeous huh? We need to enjoy every minute of it as I have a feeling that it will be a HOT summer! HUGS

I was at a baby shower on Saturday, and the "expectant Grandma" had made a lovely, hooked rug for her new grandson's bedroom. It was a bunny sitting on a carrot. Those rugs look like a ton of work, to me, but they're all so pretty! You've been busy! :)

Some book I read talked about how the settlers made soap by letting water trickle through wood ashes. I wonder if that would work?

You are so industrious, Kim. Seems like I have chosen to spend all my time in the kitchen.:-)

Everything you do just puts me more and more in admiration of you! I don't know where you get your energy but I'd gladly take some if you're selling it. LOL

I have always wanted to make my own soap, but thought the last thing I need is another
project. I do buy homemade soap. It is so much softer on the skin!
Your lamb rug is looking great. You'll be done before you know it.
I have to admit I do fill a little flat every time you tell us it going to be in the 70's! Thanks for putting it in perspective for me.
Enjoy your weekend!

Golly, you are busy and getting so many projects done. I want to learn to make soap...so far I have books telling me how. It's my summer project!
I love your rug. I like seeing your rugs and your stitching. I haven't stitched since Christmas...I have cool patterns...but I'm on a rug jag right now.
We had snow yesterday...about 9 inches...more to come tonight! I do remember those CA days though!
Hugs and happy weekend!

Your rug is coming along nicely. Hurry up because I can't wait to see your Polly pattern.
It is cool that you make your own soap, but again I ask - "Where do you find the time??"

Look forward to see if the new lye works...may need that source.

Kim, you always amaze me with all your projects. You rug land stitching all looks really nice.

My mother's aunt used to make her own lye soap when I was young and it stunk so bad I thought way back then. I couldn't understand why she made her own soap while we bought ours.

She would melt beef fat and then put lye in it and I'm not sure what else and cook it on the stove and pour it in a pan. When it was hard she would cut it in blocks to wash her clothes.

I'm sure that there are many recipes out there for soap. I would like to make some just for the fun of it.

I've been crack filling and sanding and now I have to paint the whole wall by the stairs and also sand the stairs for the last coat of polyurethane on the stairs. Then I have to paint the bathroom. Never a dull moment here either. Hugs. Jb

Thanks for showing the picture of your rug (in progress). It's so cute ... and looks like a lot of work.

I wasn't getting of your updates ... I thought maybe you were busy still with your grands and that new baby. Turns out Blogger wasn't feeding my Reader ... there were 46 unread blog posts waiting for me when I logged in this morning!
