Chats on the Farmhouse Porch

It is time again to visit with Patrice. We should stay on her porch because my porch, is dusty and windy and the rain is blowing sideways.
I thought I would show you a picture of the tumbleweeds I will have to clean up after this storm is past.

This picture is just down one side of the yard. It is this way in front and in my flowerbeds and in my yard. Oh well, it can't always be perfect. Now onto the this week's questions.

1.    Stephanie asks,
"What kind of competitions do you prefer to watch? Dancing, singing, or cooking?

I don't watch TV until things come out on video or streaming. We never got a converter box for our TV and we didn't have cable put in this house. Weird I know. We didn't have a TV the first 20 years we were married and we just never really got back into the groove with it.

2.    My Kid's Mom asks, "Do you work? Are you retired? Are you a stay at home mom?

I guess I am a stay at home mom but I have never felt that way. This is my 23rd year of homeschooling so I felt like I have always had a full time job. My job here lasts longer than if I left the house, most days my work starts before my husband leaves for his job and continues long after he is home. I love it though and I am so thankful that God gave me a job that I love.

3.    Empty Nester asks, "What's your favorite thing about winter?

Winter :) I will never disparage winter again. Having a year with no winter has made me appreciate everything about it. Our temps are going to be in the 70s into next week, that is with a storm. This is February. I love fires in the fireplace the best in a normal year.

4.    Homeschool on the Croft asks, "What do you love most about where you live?"

The freedom I have. My kids can make noise, shoot guns, shoot bow and arrows, make bombs, launch missals, Fly kites, Have a rock band, Build things, climb trees and run and dig holes if they want too. They can use slingshots and hit baseballs as far as they want.
Living in town with neighbors you can't do that. After we moved out here, my neighbor who lived next door told me how happy he was that the swing set was gone, and how the noise drove him crazy. I didn't even notice it made noise. I like it that kids can be kids out here.  Oh and all the bombs, missals, guns and bow and arrows, was because Mom likes them so much. :)

5.    Did you or your children(grandchildren too) ever have a dollhouse?

My daughter has a lovly doll house that her and her Dad made together. It is a big Victorian doll house. I bring it out for the grands to play with and they love it and would spend all of the time they are here if I let them.

6.    Wendell asks, "If horses have blankets, why don't they get a pillow too?"

Well Wendell, my horses never would lay down when they slept, so I guess that is why, I am sure Patrice spoils you rotten.

Thanks for stopping by for a Chat this week. If you get a chance stop by and visit with Patrice.

Don't tell anyone, but Wendell isn't spoiled rotten. He's loved, but the poor fellow doesn't even have a blanket. He doesn't lay down unless he's sunning himself or is sick. It was March last year that we almost lost him. Wow! I can't believe how quick the year passed.

I agree with you that it's great being able to let kids be kids. Where I grew up, the neighbors had something to say about everything!

Have good day. This is a taxi around day for me.

Wow, am I a greenhorn. I didn't know anyone ever really had tumbleweeds blow into their yards!
As far as TV goes, you're not missing much. My hubby and I buy a lot of British DVD's because there is so little worth watching anymore. Lately we've been able to get "Gilligan Island", so that's fun!

We don't have cable either. We just recently did sign up for Netflix though. We will see how that goes...:)Bless you for homeschooling all of these years. It is a ton of work. God will reward you for it, I am sure.

Your photo captured my attention so I thought I would come over and say, "hi!" Very beautiful!

Happy week to you!
xoxo...Gloria

I'll answer the questions tomorrow, but nice to visit you today :)
I *love* your full-time job ;) ... best job in the whole world :))

Oh, and you're quite right not to have TV...we do, but if I had my life over again, and if I had the choice, I'd never have it. It's almost all DVDs we watch, but I'd rather not have it at all.

See you tomorrow :)

So many tumbleweeds! Will you burn them or just haul them off? It's not raining much here. I think it's evaporating before it can hit the ground. Nice and stormy-like, though.

Love seeing the tumbleweeds. I think I always thought that they were just in old western movies, blowing past the deserted saloons. Lol

My hat's off to you for not having tv... after all these years of doing without one, why bother? I think most of it is way over rated anyway. I would much rather read a great book than go to a movie or watch tv. I do watch it though, just don't see so much that is worthwhile. I love the cooking shows and a few programs.

I love your answers but also got a close look at your tumble weeds. And it brings back a song in my head about tumbling, tumbling weeds. The only place I ever saw them was in old western movies too.

I did not link up with Patrice today because of lack of time and just left my answers there on her post.

Horses don't lay down to sleep? That's silly. I suppose that if they laid down they probably wouldn't be able to get up.
Hugs. JB

I am so sad about our no winter too! Who would have thought?

I don't think anybody's had much winter this year... we had some low temps and a couple weeks worth of snow... but that's about it...

I went without cable for about six months and really didn't miss it at all. Usually my TV is just turned on for noise.

Tumbleweeds..how interesting.

No TV that is great...I tried that but my hubby thought he would die. He was raised on it and can't even go one day without it.

I missed winter this year also...a little winter is nice, we didn't use the fireplace either.

Work full time...know that also, and still at times it gets to me when people are more worried if I have a degree or not...hey I have been at my job for 23 years of teaching, longer than most stay at any one job with a degree, and oh what I have learned from homeschooling, we both should have our PHd!...LOL

Fun chat..I always enjoy.
Hugs and have a great week.

I never really thought about tumbleweeds as something that would need to be cleaned up around the yard. I'm sure that would be a big job.

Funny about the swing set...it brought back memories of my sister's as she squeaked and flew up and down.

The one disadvantage of city life is you can't just do anything. The things you mentioned are things we miss being able to do, so we have to do these sorts of things when we visit rural southern WV. No bombs or missiles exploding, but we can shoot guns or set off firecrackers.
