On My Walk This Morning

This morning when I started my walk, I noticed that the black birds were back. They must
be very sociable birds. One of them I noticed only had one leg. As he hobbled along, I
saw that there was a light brown female, who never really left his side. As I stood and watched,
I noticed the watchman duty. He watched me while the others ate, they must have had a long
flight as they were very hungry. The water came on in the tree wells and they wanted me out
so they could take baths in the fresh water. Black birds really enjoy bathing.
Then a bit later as I was walking. I was aware of the lovely smell of the fallen leaves. The
air had this lovely, brown crunchy smell. There was the smell of the cold and the damp air,
but then the perfume that comes from the ground that is changing day to day. I read once
about a woman in the 20s that got cancer. She had these gardens and she knew that if she
could just crawl to the garden each day and lay on the ground the earth would heal her.
It did and she went on to come to the west coast and catalog every wild flower in the mountains
around on west coast so they wouldn't be forgotten. I wish I could remember her name.
I always think about that especially, after being sick for so long then to have my health return.
being so sick to not be able to walk and observe and listen and smell, is always harder on me than
anything. I do receive strength from being outside. No wonder I was such a poor student in school,
real life was outside.
Last night I must have forgot to latch my chicken coop. So this morning when I came outside
the girls had a jail break. They busted out and ran to me. I laughed and laughed to see the shocked
look on their faces, as if to say, " How did we get here." Yesterday, we ended up with a 82 degree
day. It was wonderful to open the doors and windows and have some fresh air. We broke a record
that was set in 1905.
I am hoping that we won't have a year like Texas did in 2011, I am starting to get a bit jumpy. With
no rain in December, and no snow pack in the Sierras it makes you wonder. Then I read this today.
" The Lord will guide you continually, and satisfy your soul in drought, strengthen your bones; you shall be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water, whose waters do not fail.(Isa. 58:11)
I hope you have wonderful day this day January  3rd.

It sounds like your new year is starting out much warmer than ours here...it's not to get above freezing today, and is very windy. My poor chickens' water froze in just an hour this morning!
I agree with you...that real life happens outside...a lot of it does, anyway! :)

Hey there warm weather cousin. Been beautiful here too, just makes you want to sit on the porch, and breathe in the warmness. The citrus trees are heavy with fruit, and life is good.

Yes real life is outside!!!!!!!!! Oh we have been having high 60's to high 70's...no snow this year, last year we had two snow storms by this time. What can I say...this is Texas and we are hoping we won't repeat last year..we have hade some rain, but not enough.

Thanks for letting me stroll along with you today...I was so blessed by your observations and thoughts...you are so good at bringing us into your life....and I am blessed.

I'm glad you are able to go for your walks again. While I agree that life is good outside, our 20+ degree weather and wind that could just about knock Wendell over makes me happy to be inside with the pellet stove! Brr.

Wow, Kim, you have posted four times already in 2012 and it's only Jan. 3!! I am so impressed!! May the Lord grant you and your family a wonderful year, one filled with health and family and much enjoyment from your new chicken purse :) So very cute! And happy bday to your boy -- yes, it was my boy's bday last week, too. 25 years old -- yikes, how'd that happen when just yesterday he was a two-foot-tall cutie pie in footie pajamas? ;)

Oh I enjoyed taking this walk with you. I could practically smell the brown leaves too. What an interesting story about that woman. The weather is soo wonderful, but I know how bad we need the rain. My hubby and I were just at a farmers market tonight. Walking down the middle of the street dressed in capri's and short sleeved top. Weird even for So. California. Hope you had a good day! HUGS

I enjoyed reading your post. I am doing a search to see if I can find the name of this woman that you mentioned, the one that catalogued the wildflowers. I'll let you know if I find it.

Have a great evening!

One of my favorite things to do is walk through a pile of crunchy fallen leaves. Ours are all gone.

I am so encouraged that so many of us have the desire to be outside.
Today it was dark when I finally left school to come home. I was sad that I missed the afternoon light. Somehow I must make sure I go out and take a sniff or two of fresh air if I'm going to be at school so late.
Thank you for a sweet dose of black birds, Kim. I liked that very much. (BIG HUG!)

Great job describing your walk. I could see, smell, hear and feel the day. I needed a nice warm walk as we have plenty of snow here. Thanks for sharing. Very interesting about the injured blackbird.

I love the way you write about your walks- I can see, hear, smell everything so that it's like I'm walking with you! You always give me such a peace and calm just when I need it.

There is always comfort in God's word just when you need it. How funny about your chickens! That brought a smile to my face this morning!
