Chats on the Farmhouse Porch

I know I am a bit late for Patrice's Chat's on the Farmhouse Porch.
I thought I would be getting to visit today earlier than this but
today the day just seemed to get away from me. It could
be that it is so gloomy it has felt like it has been dark all day.
So here we go.

Questions

1. What's your favorite day of the week? Why?

I like Thursdays best. We finish our bookwork on Thursdays and I get my house and my laundry all finished on Thursdays and it just seems like a nice way to start Friday. We always have other things to do on Fridays like music lessons and I run errands, but Thursdays, Peter and I just enjoy school with no pressing deadlines.

2. What's your favorite Christmas movie?

I like "Scrooge" with George C. Scott or "The Muppet's Christmas." I do like "While you Were Sleeping" and "Sleepless in Seattle". All of these I watch every year. I would like to try for all of the" Lord of the Rings," extended this year but who knows, I know you asked for my favorite, but these are my favorites.

3. Is there a Christmas Carol that's special to you?
Every year for Christmas my son Elliot learns a Christmas Carol on the piano for me, He learned
"What child is this" one year which is a favorite and then he learned the" Carol of the Bells." This year I have heard him practicing "Wizards in Winter", so it is what he gives me each year for Christmas so I always love each song he gives me each year.

4. Is there an art or craft that you'd love to be able to do?

I am currently doing all of the ones I wanted to so badly for years and years.
I love the rug hooking and the counted cross stitch. I love my saw outside for wood working and I love growing gardens. I have chickens. Nope I have to say that right now I am doing pretty much what I always dreamed of.

5. Do you have a live Christmas tree or an artificial one?

We have a fake tree. It took my family years to get me to get one, but the last one we had was so dry and crispy that I was afraid to turn on the lights after Christmas Eve. We went down and bought a beautiful fake tree and I love that the lights just plug in on the trunk.
I do miss the smell but I am thinking I will go cut limbs this year and use them so I can have the smell of pine in the house.

Thanks to Patrice for coming up with interesting questions each week.
If you want to join in Visit EverydayRurality.

Have a great Thursday!

I think we own every Christmas movie that was ever made, haha! One of my favorite traditions, that I will admit it is hard anymore to get them all watched. George C. Scotts Christmas Carol is hands down our favorite. We usually watch it on Christmas Eve after we are all settled in for the night. We FINALLY got a fake tree the year Melody got married. Oh how I wish I'd done it years ago....soo nice!

That's a good idea to have some real boughs for the scent. I'm going to try that this year. We have lots of trees that could use a bit of a thinning.

We never had a tree growing up, so it's been a treat having a real tree in the house. But I clog the vacuum cleaner every year cleaning up needles! Some day I'm sure we go with an artificial one, but probably not 'til the kids are gone!

My fav movie is It's A Wonderful Life. I watch it every year (at least once). And fav Carol is probably Silent Night. We sing it Christmas eve at church while everyone lights a candle. It's beautiful. I haven't won the battle or the tree yet. We still do real.

Always enjoy your chats on the porch, Kim. I use artificial trees but would love to have a real live one, just love the smell. Hope you get well soon.
Hugs,
Sue

I love these visits with you...I feel as though I am getting to know you better and better.....

I really want some chickens for our place in the mountains but because we don't live there all the time, my husband thinks it's not pratical....I guess what made me think of that are all your references to chickens on your sidebar....anyway, I hope you have a blessed rest of the week....

This is my first year with a fake tree and I am sold, my youngest son wasn't pleased (mind you he is 24 and does not even live here) but I think with some pine boughs decorated around the house it will give me the Christmas smell that I miss with the real tree. (and no worries about sweeping up needles for weeks after Christmas)

Fun bunch of questions, and fun to see your answers. Makes me realize I don't know of ANY Christmas movies I've watched and loved. So you'd recommend Scrooge?

I love While You Were Sleeping! Such a cute movie!

Your son learning a carol for you every year has got to be the best present ever! What a sweet thing to do. I love Carol of the Bells- Deanie has a lovely first soprano voice and she sings that one perfectly.

It was fun reading your answers :) We have a fake tree. My daughter's allergies were so bad each year after we brought in the tree, so we decided that it was better for her that we not get one anymore. A couple of years ago I bought a new one with all the lights, and I really like it. I light a pine scented Scentsy warmer though :)
Blessings,
Marcia

Well actually we don't light it, we just turn it on, and the light bulb melts it :) Love the scent!

We put up our tree tonight! Yay! This is the first year the boys have decorated and it was SO MUCH fun watching them get all giddy and jumpy. Can I come get some pine limbs too? I need some decoration and I like the smell too.

I too have a faux tree. It is too hot here to have the real thing--the chance of a fire would be very high. I put some pine scent wax in my potpourri bowl, plug it in and that fills the air with fresh cut tree scent.

I so wish I could still see good enough to do cross stitch!

While You Were Sleeping and Sleepless in Seattle are two of my ABSOLUTE FAVORITES. We must be related!

My last real tree gave two of the girls sniffles and I was afraid to light the lights because it was SO brittle. I am very happy with my artificial tree. Our super big artificial tree started showing wear and tear, so I wanted to get a new one. Our church yard sale had a wonderful, pre-lit one and it only cost $4.I love it when things appear that I was looking for anyway!

We both like Thursdays too!Cool!
